This was an absolutely phenomenal, detail oriented, and straightforward explanation the effects of Zyprexa withdrawal. The simplified explanation of dopamine blockage and the resulting increase of receptors makes it very easy to understand why a slow and tapered approach minimizes risks significantly. My doctor said to stop zyprexa once I hit 2.5mg because I wouldn’t get any withdrawal effects because it was such a low dosage So I stopped And within 24 hours I immediately got sick I’ve been INCREDIBLY sick every single day for a week I can’t move I have chills I’m soooo sick I can’t do anything They just told me to take it again and I absolutely will NOT do that I just want to feel better It’s soooo bad!

@@markmcgoveran6811 That is what I am going to do. I am on 2.5 at night and it has stopped working for me. So every other night (I did read from a Dr.) for 10 days then stop is the best advice I have gotten thus far. Yep I have anxiety for sure, nausea and that is it. One day without and it is kicking in. I expected to have insomnia and increased anxiety. I also take Lamictal (100 mg a day) and a very low dose of clonazepam (1/2 of a .5 mg pill twice a day). Hopefully this will carry me through. I have never had psychotic episodes and have depression and anxiety disorder. Wish me luck~

Ive quit zyprexa now for 3 weeks. And I will say one thing. Music never sounded better. For some reason when I was on 10mg of zyprexa I absolutely could not listen to any music. Something about the emotions in music made me extremely uncomfortable on 10mg zyprexa. Then each step down I could enjoy a little more. And now that I'm 3 weeks off. Music is incredibly immersive and enjoyable.

Benzos and pregabalin helped for a while but stopped working and now I'm using an opioid pain medication Tapentadol that causes nervousness due to it's effect on norepinephrine. I started to have chest pains, jerking and spasms whilst sleeping only at 2.5 mg. Also raised blood pressure and some kidney disfunction. I am 56. I decided to stop it but am still going to slow go it based on what I have learned (every other day at bedtime for 10 days then stop...btw from a doctor). I still need to sleep and be productive during the day. Better than being in a darn coma practically while taking it. Bad med to be on but may be good for those with psychosis. My hubby has that and it has been a life saver for him at 10 mg every evening. He is a different person (he has bi-polar mania so bad he has psychosis) and it helps him so much. I have anxiety and depression with manic episodes but not like he does. Just days of more energy with a bit of insomnia. I will take that over being over-medicated. Plus I am highly sensitive to medications. I am on Lamictal 100 mg a day and .25 Klonopin 2x day (one in the a.m. and one at night). I have panic disorder so that to me is a lifesaver. For me that is so bad I have to stay in the house (and can't even drive or go out to the store without one), Luckily I am at a very low dose.

I have been tapering Abilify for several years now, and I have some info to share. First of all, you need a very precise method for tapering the dosage, and more slowly at lower dosages. Secondly, if you have been on the drug for many years, then it may require up to 10 years to complete the taper. And thirdly, you can't even tell your psychiatrist because they will never understand. That's because the science has been manipulated to hide the existence of withdrawal effects!

I tried to quit 5mg Olanzapine and 20mg Prozac cold turkey and the withdrawals were horrible. The worst being the insomnia. I lost 3 days of sleep and immediately went back on it just to stop the withdrawal symptoms. I am trying to find information on how to taper off of Olanzapine and Prozac. But I can't find any useful information on how to taper off. And my doctor was no help. He told me he doesn't recommend I stop taking these drugs because he believes I will end up in a mental hospital again. He told me I could just quit them cold turkey (Wrong! I learned that the hard way). I wanna stop taking these drugs. I feel like I am a slave to them.

Please be careful. Do NOT quit cold turkey but taper off slowly. The final step will be the hardest. From 2,5 mg slowly in steps towards 2, 1.25, once in two days. Once in three days. If insomnia kicks in for more than four days go back to a dosage where you get enough sleep. It is not worth it and necessary to suffer for weeks. Good luck. P.S. try to investigate why you were on zyprexa in the first place. Do you believe the thoughts and visions were true and real or not? If it seems you cannot go off zyprexa try to live with it on an acceptable dosis or discuss alternative medication.

Why are you using bridging? That just adds one more medication that they have to get off of or may have side effects from? The Dangers of Bridging: 1. Interaction between the two drugs creates risk of "Serotonin Syndrome". 2. Switching to another drug does not necessarily stop antidepressant withdrawal. 3. The patient may switch to another drug and still develop "Acute Protracted Withdrawal Syndrome" from rapid discontinuation of the drug. 4. A doctor may misdiagnose withdrawal as a mental health disorder and diagnose more drugs. 5. The new drug(s) also cause(s) dependency and will need to be slow tapered. 6. Repeatedly going off and on psych drugs can "kindle" or sensitize the nervous system making further discontinuation attempts more challenging. 7. The best way to minimize withdrawal symptoms and reduce the risk of developing "Protracted Withdrawal" is a slow taper which decreases no greater than 2% to 5%, every 3 to 4 weeks, at which point the person needs to stabilize before further decreasing at the same rate.

15 years of compiled experience with data-driven studies. It is not a requirement but has proven to be better tolerated in many if not most. The 1-7 you posted above sounds like it is related to antidepressants. Depakote nor Zyprexa will ever result in serotonin syndrome.

I will be honest with you, think about this, something that's considered treatment-resistant that is literally being used to treat something that's considered treatment-resistant does that make much sense to you? Know I pretty much think that yes if you are schizophrenic you suffer with symptoms, but if you have the power to go inside your head and pull back and look at yourself and a third person's perspective, you might be able to overcome a lot of the symptoms you deal with on your own. I believe the human brain is powerful enough to do that it's just my opinion though I'm not saying anything about your disease, it's just my opinion and my mind is a nervous wreck trust me❤ you're not stuck on anything for the rest of your life that's also my opinion
