So we have this case study, a 2011 Land Rover Range Rover Sport HSE with the 5.0 engine, coming in the shop with a charging system malfunction warning light on the dash. We tested the alternator and found it was slightly charging, but it was weak. I found this TSB (LTB00643NAS1) and i show you how to perform the repair. I also go over the differences of the two alternators, and how not to get the wrong one!

Informative video thank you. My 2013 Range Rover Sport is showing charging system fault. I’ve already tested the wire coming from the positive terminal. Changed the battery. Alternators good. Is there a way to test or check (maybe with a volt meter) if the battery control module on the negative terminal is bad. It’s $220 to replace it and I would like to get some sort of confirmation before spending anymore money. No that wasn’t a typo it’s $220 for a negative battery terminal cable. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

On my 2009 Range Rover Sport TD V8 3.6 ltr the battery died. Replaced the battery and then soon as that was done the boot locked up and will not open and the driver side door central locking won't work and the rear wipers dont work either !?

What about the Voltage regulator? Is it suggested to replace it at the same time as the alternator ?

I have a 2016 range rover sport diesel with the same charging system fault with 55,000 mile I bought it new. Changed the Battery with a dealer OEM battery and a new Denso Alternator that matches exactly (Plug Type) I also changed the Negative terminal chip. and cleaned all the engine grounds. Unfortunately I am still getting the Charging system fault on the Dash board , Any Suggestions? I also plugged in my diagnostic computer and added the new Battery. I enjoyed your video

Oh man I feel mentally defected. I just email you because I couldn't the comments. I just needed to scroll down further. Duh. Anyway, was there any trick/tips to remove that connector from the alternator. I am having a heck of a time getting it to pop loose. I actually broke the release tab on top and still cannot get it to budge. sorry ab out the email. Thanks.

Good advice, thanks. Any idea why RR Sport not start if half day was under the sun, sometimes start & sometimes not. Batteryis good, no any error at the dashboard, you just hear click from starter and nothing else.

Sounds like the starter may be failing to me.

Have the same vehicle...was running to heat the car up last night (I live in ME and it's cold) for 15-20 minutes, then when I got into the car and put it into gear the battery and engine light came on and the car died. Turns over, will not start. Alternator was replaced a few weeks ago and has been fine, battery is new from 6/22, ODBII is throwing a P0420 code for the cat but I have no idea what could be causing the no-start condition.

Start with checking spark and fuel. I would also check all fuses, could have popped one. Hope this helps! It is tough without a code to follow.

@@AutoScholarwithMrB it is throwing a P0420 Blocked Idle Air Control Valve. Drive Cycle A: Signal Missing. The cat code was just what the OBDII reader itself said...but apparently the app claims it is the IAC. I took off the throttle body today and cleaned it to no avail.

Hazzard lights come on usually a minute after starting. Doors lock then unlock. Then radio shows a code shutting down and then shuts off. Sometimes it will start back up other times you have to wait. Also it's shows a red park warning light. Truck runs fine no blinkers radio and the heating cooling system shut down. Can you help?

Have you checked the battery, terminals, and ground connections? I would definitely do that first.

My 2011 Range Rover Sport is showing CHARGING SYSTEM FAULT. My mechanic scanned it and the code is P065B-16. Question: Is this bad alternator problem? It appears I have a blown or burnt wire that connects to the battery. I nnoticed fume or smoke when I connected jump starter to the positive battery terminal in an attempt to jump start the car. Once I jump started the car, the CHARGING SYSTEM FAULT light came on for the first time.

When my 2011 Range Rover Sport was scanned, it showed the following two codes: (1) P065B-16 - Generator Control - Circuit Range performance - circuit voltage below threshold (2) B11DB-87 -Battery monitoring module - missing message.

Quick question: I have a 2008 Range Rover súper Charge. The dashboard sometimes turns on and when it does the car starts. But if the monitor don’t turn on the car won’t turn on. Also, when I get it turn on and drive the car. The monitor says system error and shutdown the monitor but the car still drives. What could be the issue?

Land Rover dealer tech here, It needs an instrument cluster. Super common issue on 05-09 lr3s and 06-09 Range Rover sports. There’s a few solder joints internally that fail. That being said some people repair them.

Service departments at dealers are shit. This happened to my car, I took it in... I told the SERVICE MANAGER what happened and that I thought it was the alternator. He said "THAT DOESNT SOUND LIKE AND ALTERNATOR ISSUE". WHAAAT... a message while driving that says "BATTERY NOT CHARGING"? What the hell is RESPONNNNNNSIBLE for charging the battery. Anyway... 3 weeks and still no word on what they think it is. HORRIBLE.

One thing I found are there are two alternator versions and if you use the wrong one, it won’t charge. Hope you get it squared away.
