Hi Mark - great work on the build given you're starting skill set. I was in same position, have mechanical skills but my 2a is my first vehicle but you learn as you go. BTW, you cannot use the old pressure plate with the 2a gearbox throw out bearing. You need the 9.5" multi-finger with spacer on centre. Cheers

Cheers! Yes I bought a replacment 9.5" clutch disc/pressure plate with that triangular metal spacer. Is that the correct one? I also added the spacer on the slave cylinder bracket, I think thats correct? Thanks for watching btw ;)

Cracking video, I’ve got my eye on restoring an old 90, in terms of literature and guidance, where and what are crucial sources of information for mechanically minded but inexperienced people like myself in attempting such a project? Thanks!

One of the most important sources of info is a parts catalogue! This is a godsend when you're looking for very specific parts online. with an old Defender, you're probably okay for parts compared to the old 2.25L engine. I found as I was working through Haynes manuals & the green bible for series landys, (I'm not sure if such a thing exists for defenders apart from a digital guide but let me know if you find one ;) ), and Land Rover Forums and everyone I could find such as car mechanics and the like were valuable sources of info. Usually, you'll find someone who lives, eats and breath Land Rovers and they can give you all the advice you'll ever need lol. P.S. don't be frightened by what you don't know as you'll soon know how buggered your engine is once you start stripping it apart, hahaha! but that's all part of the fun ;) Oh yes! one final thing. Don't believe what everyone tells's you. Question things if you think they need questioning. A lot of People on the forums will tell you this and that, thinking they know it all when really they're talking through their backside. That's the one drawback on the forums, you can't tell someone when they're wrong or they take it as a personal insult. I've never been in trouble personally but I've seen many others fall into this trap!

The inlet rocker I pointed too is, in fact, the number 1 exhaust valve! Sorry for the error!

Where do you find your parts from? I have a 1964 2a that im working on. Quality parts are scarce here in the USA. Awesome video, thanks!

Hi Alex. Thanks for your comments! I'd first recommend a parts catalogue or go here: www.scribd.com/doc/34174887/Land-Rover-Series-II-IIA-2-2A-Parts-Cat For the parts themselves, I mainly shop around on eBay for the cheaper/smaller parts and use Land Rover parts stockists over here for the harder to find/very specific parts. However the postage from parts stockists is insanely expensive with the VAT so I try and hunt around for most parts on Ebay. Have you tried Rovers North over your side? You can find them here: www.roversnorth.com Again it depends on what work your undertaking. I had to replace harder things to find such as the crankshaft but ended up rebuilding the whole engine nut and bolt! I hope this helps! and best of luck with your Landy as you bloody need it when your working on these things, haha!

Yes. Do you mean the inlet/outlet as well as the pipe running under the car? I've added my email in the about section on my channel instead of posting it here. I'll have to take the pictures tomorrow as it's nighttime here, but that's no trouble!

crap engine,3 main bearing crank and plenty of them broke and premature timing chain wear, they were fitted in black cabs in the 60s, but they were unreliable so they fitted the BMC diesel and petrol engines.

True, but I'm a stickler for authenticity. If you don't have the engine idling slowly like a black cap waiting for a passenger then you get much higher oil pressure from the the engine due to the higher pressure created by the manual control throttle for either electricity or for the power take-off...
