Great show , I still own a 69 imperial that my dad bought new for my mom , they went on to lexus and all that stuff , but it only has 23k on it and always been inside . almost like new ... but then my dad bought a 73 linclon continental custom town car that I still own , that has 32 k , same thing ...they both are fantastic boats ..I can't say witch one I want to take out on sunday lol ... those are just the boats I own , still have my hemi superbird 4 speed with 16 k , and many other toys lol ... My wifes baby is her 13 camaro ss/rs that we have set up at 600 at the wheels , no boost of any kind ... she road races it lol ... we are 66 from MA :) :) :)

My family had a '77 New Yorker Brougham with the 400 Lean Burn V8...that thing was a land yacht to be sure...it floating down the road so softly it felt like you were at home on the couch!

I have a '69 Mark III with a 460 before the malaise era. 365 hp. Mark III styling was beautiful.

I don't know why the Malaise Era cars always get a bad rap. They were the most comfortable cars ever made. Great Video !

I love the huge luxury cars from the 60s and 70s. Now matter how much money you spend on a new car today they can’t match the ultra smooth ride of the old cars from the past 👍

First car I ever drove was my mother's '74 Imperial. First year of that New Yorkers body style. Waterfall grill was a little different and had classier wheels, leather interior and a reclining passenger seat. Four wheel disc brakes were standard. Incredible ride they don't make anymore and handled well for a 20 foot long car! Only got around 9 mpg around town and 12 on the highway. Loved to drive that car!

My old man had a 75 Ford T-Bird, always made me sea sick riding in the back of that thing.

After my dad passed away I got hi 1976 Chrysler Newport with a 440, absolutly a great car and beautifuly designed, 4dr HT. Keep on smiling.

The only thing missing when you sat down at the table to compare notes was a beer, peanuts and chips. At least a coffee! 😂 Two good friends shooting the breeze about cars on a weekend ❤

I have always been a fan of the "C" body Chrysler products. My personal favorite was my old 1972 Plymouth Fury 3 with the hide away headlights. I have owned many, and was never disappointed, you can't ask for a better ride.

A '78 New Yorker saved my life. I was driving my dad's when I was in High School and I got hit head on by a drunk driver. Not only did the New Yorker destroy the 75 Chevelle the drunk was in, but it stopped it dead and pushed it backwards and into the other lane as I coasted to a stop. The New Yorker was done but I was able to open the drivers door and get out. The Chevelle's driver frame rail was smashed to the firewall and the door was about 6 inches longer than the space it was supposed to fit in. I love those big Chryslers!

Had a 78 440 New Yorker. Awesome road car.

I worked at a FLM dealer when the Mark V was released and we used to put actual Wire Wheels on them. And Manny, I definitely know how complicated those rear disk brakes were as I was the only person at the FLM Dealership, and the Ford Dealership I worked at later who knew how to service them. I even had the special Piston Tool to do it with. Personally I preferred the Mark IV over the V, but I would take either one today. That or a Lincoln Versailles.

What I enjoyed most about this is not just those most beautiful cars which I remember when I was a young man driving them but I like the best of all was Nick and Manny being together and enjoy and stuff like that because Nick and Manny are Nick's garage

2 cars that George and I can both fit in and drive...Though I am tall, George is even taller, so I assume he would love to cruise in something with this much room! We need to see George featured in his convertible and a couple of other friends with similar convertibles of the era by the other brands to compare before the cold weather sets in. I know George doesn't like to hog the limelight of the camera, but maybe a cameo appearance just this once (or wear a clever disguise :) )

Great video. My parents had a '76 Cordoba (slightly less of a land yacht). I did drive it some before they sold it. Certainly drove well. I would have liked to try the bucket seat version, as the split bench was a bit too much like a sofa for me. A head scratcher for you - it had the fender signals like the Newport, but for some reason the driver's side did not work. However, the driver's side light did work with the fuel economy gauge (a vacuum gauge that would turn on the light if you were heavy on the gas, which was all the time when we towed a trailer). Speaking of trailer towing, for some reason the other day I was thinking of one of the later camping trips when the transmission cooler line split and blew off the fitting, leaving us on the side of the road. I was able to crawl under the car and cut off the split end and still get the hose to fit while my dad got a ride to get some replacement fluid to get us back on the road. I guess it was good teamwork, as there were several time in my childhood when the trailer we had then would get a flat in the worst possible place (busy interstate in city traffic, for example) and he was back there fixing it...

I love how the Lincoln has its symbol in the blinker lenses. Pretty cool. But that New Yorker is Gang-STER.

I had a 77 New Yorker brougham, and completely rebuilt the brakes and suspension and replaced the lean burn thermoquad with an edelbrock, replaced the OEM distributor with a an Accel unit and tuned it to perfection. Took it on a trip from Orlando Florida to Albuquerque New Mexico, 2600 miles and we made it in 21 hours. Only got stopped once by a Texas Ranger who clocked me doing 138 miles an hour just before we hit I-40 in Amarillo. I figured He was going to arrest me and impound the car, but he only stopped me to warn me that there was a line of cotton wagons crossing the highway about 5 miles ahead. "Then he asked where I was headed in such a hurry at 10:30 on Thanksgiving day morning. I explained to him that we were supposed to have T-day dinner in Albuquerque that evening. He just smiled and looked over the car, which was in mint condition, and he stepped back and said "This beast was made to eat highway, so just put your foot in it and I believe you'll make it in time for turkey, Just be careful when you go past those cotton wagons, they make one hell of a mess when you run into them at a 130 miles an hour, and I don't wanna pick up a load of splattered cotton pickers and bales of cotton, and he laughed. Then he told me "When you leave Amarillo and you see the sign that says last gas for 260 mile, they mean it. So you better stop and fill up before you head on down I-40" Well, we made it there in time for dinner and to this day, my wife and daughter still talk about how much they loved that old land yacht. It was white on white with a white overstuffed leather interior, I've always been a fan of big block Mopars, but that was the nicest ride I've ever had. I've been a master mechanic for over 50 years and have been a regional service rep for GM and Ford, and instructor for Honda and VW/Porsche/Audi, before I opened my own shop. A 14 bay garage with 16 employees that was open 24/7 except Thanksgiving, Christmas, New years and Easter. I've owned I used to really piss off the factories and dealerships I worked for, since I've always had a Mopar of some type, and they kept trying to get me to drive one of their flagship rides. But I told them I am 6" 4" and weigh 240 lbs and I want a car I can sit in, not put on like a tee shirt.. From my 63 Valiant with a 340, my 67 Dart GT with a 4 speed and a hi-perf 273, a 66 charger and then I fell in love with the big block yachts. My first was a 57 Chrysler Imperial, then a 68 New Yorker 440 and then the 77 New Yorker. When I was in my teens I worked at a garage in Daytona Beach, The best damned garage in town" owned by Smokey Yunick. At that time I made friends with a guy named Ed Crane who was renting a space in the back of the shop and he showed me a few tricks on grinding cams. The one that always worked for me, since I wanted a nice smooth idle like the original cam profile, so he would grind .050 off the bottom of the stock cam and the bottom end torque was off the charts on those old big block dinosaurs. With the right carb(s) and a little head work and a new distributor those those 440'a were making almost 550 to 590 hp between 3500 and 5000 rpm and over 600 ft lbs of torque. Had to learn not to stab it in the ass from a dead stop or I'd be buying a new axle or driveshaft. But it made those road hogs eat highway like a beast. My 68 had a 2.92 rear gear and I still have the ticket from the Florida Hwy Patrol for getting stopped doing 176 mph in a 70 mph zone. I really miss that old 77 the most. It was built like a tank, but my daughter had just recently gotten her drivers license and she was cruisin' around town when she was supposed to be taking it to get some gas. She came wheeling it into the gas station way too fast and caught the last two gas pumps and took them out as well as taking out the overhead canopy. When she came back home a few minutes later, she was crying her eyes out and ran through the house and locked herself in her bedroom. My friend and I just looked at each other and said, The car! It pushed in the front bumper shock about 2 inches and left a long orange paint streak along the right front fender. Since I had a 78 for parts we swapped out the bumper shock and I made her rub out the orange paint and it looked like brand new. But it was after I retired that my wife ran the John Deere tractor down the drivers side from the rear tail light to the front that did the poor girl in. Love your channel and it brings me back to the good old days when I was still able to build go fast cars and customs. Did a few years as part of the NHRA Dixie Rebels out of the Gainesville Motor Speedway racing top fuel rear engine dragsters and funny cars. But when it turned from cubic inches to cubic dollars, we got out of racing and went into rebuilding and restoring classics. Like a 68 Roadrunner with one of Don Garlits old 426 hemis we de-tuned to about 800 hp, a 39 Buick with 500 a inch Cadillac engine, a 55 Merc we did an old school drop and chop with french headlights and shaved with a '71 LS6 454 corvette drive train. I would have loved to run a few of those old monster big blocks up to your shop and dyno them. But we had to settle for the old rear wheel roller type, and it didn't take long to realize they were all over the map and many times the numbers were way out in the weeds. So Nick, keep up the excellent work and I'll be watching every video you make and smiling like a little kid the whole time.

I remember the land yacht Era very well: big, heavy cars (which gave some advantage in traction in winter time) that rode silky smooth. And these were two great examples, tested by two KOOL AMIGOS, Nick and Manny!!! I owned a New Yorker Fifth Avenue edition once: VERY nice car. George, love the ship's horn sound!!! I would never have thought to compare these two vehicles; but I love a land yacht. I’ve owned 1974 Oldsmobile Delta 88 with Rocket 350 (originally Olds 455), Pontiac Grandville with 455, and 1974 Chrysler Newport (can’t remember displacement). The Chrysler had the best ride. Currently driving a Mercury Grand Marquis with a 4.6 V8. Great ride.

I have a 1977 Buick Electra 225 that I bought in 1993 for a daily go to work runner. It was a nice car so I kept it. This year it won awards at two car shows. We have been in six states with it, and it’s two tons of fun! Not bad for $2,000!

The muscle car era never really ended. It went into hiatus a few times but always returned. That original era up to 1973 really did give us some of the best Muscle cars there has been though. The modern muscle car era has truly bought some huge horsepower muscle onto the scene. This episode Nick... was so much fun... I think many a muscle car guy, or girl, also likes the good old land yachts.

At 18 years old, bought my 78 Tbird new off the lot. 400 cid. Loved that car, but the main oil seals made the chasis rust non-existent! Lots of $$ spent on gas and oil. Kept it until 2008. We had to find a townhouse in Ottawa that would accommodate a 19 foot car!

Manny is a Ford man and Nick is a Chrysler man ,but first and foremost,they are car guys, regardless of Manufacturer,really enjoyed this comparison.

My mother had 1977 Continental 4dr. 460. I think she got about 6 miles to a gallon. It was about 20ft long. The ride was great. and quiet.

Nowadays everything goes fast.. and sadly everyone seems to be in a rush. I remember being a teenager in that era. I can recall driving in the summertime with windows down... enjoying the act of driving whilst enjoying the day.

The first car I had was a 1966 Chrysler 300 with a 383. The best boat to fit 4 people in the trunk to sneak into a drive in theater! The next year, it became the New Yorker.

I had a 1972 Olds Delta 88 with a 455 Rocket with a 4 barrel. I bought it from a pastor with 56,000 miles on it. That was an amazing car. I am so glad I had that experience. That car was so powerful and smooth. It is on my list of cars I miss.

Actually I have outrun a few newer, cars with big New Yorkers in the past! They're not as fast as a 300, but they can be pretty good, especially if you tune them right! While I respect that you can't beat on your customer's cars, it would be cool to see these 2 land yachts stand off on the quarter mile! I've driven both, and Lincolns are sluggish while New Yorkers are much faster than they would appear!

Both are very nice... That Lincoln with the 400, has excellent low-end torque with that 4" stroke & 2-bbl carb... The Chrysler with the 440 with the 3.75" stroke, is also very torquey, but maybe a little less than the Mercury 400 with the longer 4" stroke... Yesrs ago, I had a '64 Continental with the 'suicide' doors... It had a 430 with a Carter 4-bbl. carb. 4.30" stroke and a 3.70" bore... stump-pulling torgue!!! The car was fairly quick... Really nice ride, power everything, with some of the windows that did not work... I wish that I still had that car, but time moved on and so did my young life (at that time)... great old cars!!!

I love land yachts. I had a 78 Imperial. I was in college and delivered pizza although I only used it when my Plymouth Satellite was down. At work they Christianed the Titanic. As a teenager we had an old 1968 Cadillac sedan Deville. Later a friend owned owned several mid 70s Cadillacs including a Fleetwood.

Friend of mine had a '76 New Yorker back in the early 80's, and that was a nice car. We always gave him crap about driving a boat. But if you were going down the highway and weren't watching the speedometer, you could be doing 80 and it felt like you were just floating down the road.

My Mom had an '83 four door Continental Mark sedan model it was a Chamois Metallic exterior with a matching Chamois color leather interior. Nice car.

An old story at a dealership i worked at in the '80's was that a salesman there would let some air out of the tires before test drives so the luxury cars would ride smoother than the competition.

i remember both those cars in the 70s as a kid, parked in front of my grandmas house during holidays along with a Cadillac and an Oldsmobile..in high school i had a 1977 Ford Ltd Landau in white..Many fond memories of that car! Now i drive a 2011 Ford Crown Victoria..shes a big girl but nothing on those 70s era land yachts!

That was a great review guys. My dad had a Mark IV or Mark V, if he was still alive I would ask him. In any case I can relate to the humungous hood on the ford. When you reach the crest of a hill and start to come down you have this big hood blocking the view of the road and for a moment you are driving blind. As soon as you get in the car you notice the hood size. Even todays large pickup truck hoods are tiny in comparison.

My father had a 76 New Yorker , I remember when he took it in for a tuneup , they replaced the spark plugs and I swear he had a stroke when he got the bill , lol The car used platinum spark plugs that were $ 5 each , in todays money that would be $25 each , I also remember the first time I frove it that it had two dimmer buttons on the floor , turned out the secomd button was for the radio " wonderbar " to search for stations . Beautiful driving car but a dog with all the emissions on the engine .

We had a 77 Mark V. The 460 was still an available in 77, as an option. The 400 was standard. I pulled the 460 and installed it in a 77 F150 that I had. Torque monster.

My favourite car in my 67years was my dad's 1976 Caprice. Too bad I cannot find one. This episode was a lot of fun to watch .

I really love the malaise era cars and have had several, all land yachts. I owned a 78 MkV a few years ago. Some corrections on your MkV: the 460 was offered through 1978 as an option over the base 400. Starting in 1979 (last year for the MkV) the 460 option was gone and only available with the 400. The Designer Series packages are the most desirable in MkIV's and MkV's (particularly the Cartier or Bill Blass packages). Your white MkV is NOT a Cartier package. All Lincoln clocks in that era were "Cartier" clocks regardless of trim packages or Designer series options. Each Designer series package had unique colors. For 1977 the Cartier Package was triple Dove Grey. The Bill Blass was dark blue and chamois, the Givenchy was dark Jade green, and the Emilio Pucci was black and white. Your MkV appears to have the Luxury Group which upgrades the seat design and fabric.

The police version of the 440 had 50 more HP and 40 lb.ft of torque. A friend of mine has a 440 pursuit version that come out of a 77 Royal Monaco.

Dana "60" Glass. Sorry accidentally sent partial message. The RV2 compressor was smooth running, not as smooth as the GM A6, but was just as heavy and efficient. Ford used the York Tecumseh compressor which resembled a lawn mower engine, was a very reliable. Love this comparison between these big beauties. Both ahead of their times. The auto dimmer the Lincoln has was first developed by GM and was experimented in the 1956 Olds 88.

From the era of when i started driving. Wow. Those were so huge. I remember 6 passangers no problem. You didnt require a drivers license for those. You needed a CAPTAINS license.

My Grandmother had a Moonstone Exterior/Parchment Leather Interior/Vinyl Roof 1974 Chrysler Imperial Coupe, even had an electric Sunroof, not a Moonroof. My Dad still has the car, like new, gorgeous, 21,000 original miles. It was sold new in February of 1974 in Escondido, California by Powell Chrysler/Plymouth/Imperial. The Dealership installed aftermarket Vogue Tires and Real Wire wheels that set the car off. I would have loved to have seen her 1956 Chrysler New Yorker St. Regis Coupe. Put some whitewall tires and nice Chrome wheels on this beauty, the blackwall tires don't do it justice.

Those definitely are land yachts. I have a 1974 Caddillac Coupe Deville with 5ft long doors. Also have a 76 Buick Estate wagon, the longest station wagon produced from the factory. Both are land yachts but i love all land yachts.

I had 2 of those mopar. Up here in MN you could plow snow with it! Also if it turned over it would start. As you know Nick -40 shows you out in a open parking lot what a great car they were. I could go on for ever about these cars! You know what I just realized I never put plugs and caps or wires on these!!! I got them used to!!! WOW! I did have to put alternators in them! My wife would go and help people with their cars and jump them. 4 or 5 cars and gone. We have tried it many ways but in the end you are going to have to buy a new alternator.

Love the mid 70’s cars. My favorite are the GM colonnade cars. Cutlass Supreme being my favorite, Grand Prix and Buick a close second with the Monte Carlo being my least favorite of the group, though I do like it. Of the big 4 door cars of that era I like the Buick Electra. Greet video guys.

Nick: Al from Montana. I had a 1977 NYB triple Burgundy with a leather interior. I thought your 76 interior was plain in comparison to the leather version. Secondly, the price tag of my 77 was $9,100.00. I am guessing the 76 NYB was about $8,500.00. And both of you were right. As a long distance road car it was TOPS. Lastly, I had a 78 NYB St Regis coupe and the doors were LONG on it also. This was a great idea. Why not include comparison muscle cars? This makes you a kind of classic car Motor Trend.

I love the 1972 Imperial. The grill is so nice. And if you think these cars are big check the 1962 Imperial.

Chryslers mainly had power headlight covers. I have owned several of them, and all of the ones I had were electric.

This Lincoln is gorgeous! The color combination and those beautiful wheels which would look as good on the Chrysler as they do on the Lincoln.

So the last year of the 460 V-8 4BBL in the Lincoln in America was in 78. I didn’t know about the different engine sizes for Canada. I was working at a Ford Dealer in 78. I remember these cool land yachts.

Love them both can't wait to get my muscle wagon up there...383 Monaco with helical diff 3:23 gears dual exhaust closed chamber head and boy it moves. And it's mean looking with body lines inspired by the Dodge Charger 69-70...those lines lasted from 69-71 on the Monaco wagon. If ya wanna see me just punch the throttle it goes quick and!!!! It's a two barrel😂yep moves. I just want to get her on Canadian soil for the first time since 1969. She was ordered 9/18/1969 and I found both of her broadcast sheets...and I'm looking for the third one now. And she still has her spot light and siren.

Had a 76 New Yorker and a 77 Continental. The Chrysler was my favorite by far .

Most of my 440's came from these big boats!!! Still nice cars! The big trunk was designed to smuggle people into the Drive in theaters...lol Mopar Manny really has a nice ring to it!!!
