I was a lucky teen, drove my parent's new '71 Road Runner (Bahama Yellow w/air grabber) to high school every day as a junior and senior. I know these vehicles inside and out.

When I came to North Carolina in the year 1975. My cousin had a 71 440-6 that is exactly like the one you are showing. He took me and my brothers for a fife down the road. And man did that thing haul. I was hooked on the 440-6 and it would take me many years to get my own. Today I have a 70 GTX 440-6 automatic. And have owned it since 81. It will be painted by next summer and once again I will be hitting the streets. This 72 RR brought back memories of my first ride in my cousins RR. Thank you for the memories. You rock Nick.

I'm surprised nobody ever metions more about the 'SlapStick' shifters. They were designed so if you were starting in 1st, you could just ram the shifter forward &it would only go to 2nd, then you could ram it forward &it would go to D(rive) but it was impossible to ram it into N(eutral). Making it virtually impossible to miss a shift, or over shift from 1st to D(rive) (or Neutral), & 2nd into N(eutral) . That was what made this shifter so special.

There was a batch of soft fuel pump pushrods that came out many years ago, so there's no guarantee that the new pushrod won't also wear out. If someone knew the original factory hardness spec, it would be possible to test the hardness of the pushrod before installation. Luckily, it isn't too hard to change once you have the alternator and fuel pump out of the way. :>)

The Roadrunner is a beautiful car, but I have to be honest, I prefer the 68-69 like my brother and I had. Mine was a 68 383, 4 speed, bench seat,,power nothing. Bobby’s was a 69 440, 4 speed, factory bucket seats w/ console, nothing power. But how we loved those cars. Our wives? Hated them.

Older Cadillac big block motors used a push rod as do the older Chevrolet small blocks. My dad repaired a Cadillac with the same problem as the Road Runner. The hole that the push rod goes up and down in became oblonged and the push rod damaged. My dad being an old mechanic used a King pin hone to correct the hole and had a local machine shop make a bronze bushing to correct the problem. Then ordered a new push rod. I love the Challenger T/A. Man if you could go back in time and buy a couple of cars and then keep them knowing what we know now.

I had a 72 400 cu. in., Road Runner, and it had a whopping 160 HP! The 71 RR was the last year for the 383 cu in engine. My 72 was the first vehicle I saw with electronic ignition, and it was a "Standard Option" right on the door sticker. I had G60-15 tires all around. Had to change the ball joints at 15,000 miles. Due to the Arab oil embargo in 1973 and the distance to work, I had to sell the Road Runner in 1973. I wish I had that car now. 2 beauties in this video Nick!

Yeah that steering wheel alignment problem is caused by shops that don't care about doing it right. My '68 Fury got an alignment and when I went to pick it up the steering wheel was wrong. So I made them do it again while I waited. They corrected their BS and I got a proper alignment. Never went back to that shop again. Used to walk by a '70 TA Challenger on my way to a job when I was 16, and it was white with black vinyl roof, 4 speed with pistol grip shifter, 340 6 pack engine, and I don't know how they pulled it off but with power steering, power brakes and AC. I almost bought that car. Now I wish I had ...hindsight LOL.

The fuel pump pushrod is a well-known issue with these - most any of the aftermarket ones are too soft for the cams these days, so the market for NOS ones from back in the day is very strong. For the record, that rascal is 3.22" long when new, so quick check is simply to measure it. Also, on the T/A's hood bowing up in the middle like this one, removing the hood hinges will allow the hood to lay back down flush with the fenders eventually. Yes, they are lighter springs than on steel hoods, but they're still the cause of hood warpage on the fiberglass hoods. - Ed on the Ridge

Yes both cars are great, but, oh boy, the Challenger is a real feast for the eyes with all the visual goodies on this car. It looks like a museum piece and I can understand why Mopar fans are so loyal to their brand. Same thing for this gorgeous Road Runner. Chrysler really knew how to market their cars from the Road Runners, GTX's, Challengers, Cudas and so on. They all look very special and a car's appearance is a major factor in your buying decision. Nick has an awesome channel and an awesome business. Merci Nick!

When those Roadrunners came out 400 , down here in south Texas they would change the cam and pistons to a crane cam and TRW forged high compression ones then it would run like a roadrunner ? I mean even if the engine only had 10,000 miles on it they would do it .
