Language Arts For 4th Grade
You guys have been waiting for this one. Drum roll folks! Mosdos Ruby Language Arts for 4th Grade review. I have had so many requests to share this. We do truly enjoy Mosdos and how easily we can fit the curriculum into our everyday life. I love that my daughter can work so independently on this program. Also, use Quizlet as a great compliment to this program. Don't let the amount of text in the teacher's guide scare you, it is truly manageable. I do wish the teacher's guide was just shaped differently but ya know, it's fine. As always, link below. Let me know, what are you loving for secular language arts? Is it a full language arts curriculum?

What are you using for Language Arts? Is it a full language arts curriculum?

I am currently using Tara West on teachers pay teachers. It includes phonics, Grammar, guided reading, and spelling. Very strong on the phonics but Doesn’t really have much writing. It is great but pre-k to 2nd is all she has so I have to find something different for 3rd.

I've enjoyed the mosdos opal and ruby. I'm not sure we will stick with it next year as I'm learning about more things but I feel like mosdos has been a great bridge between phonics and heavy literature.

@@MakingEverydayMagic short stories is the route we want to take. I don’t think mine is ready for a 200 page book to read and comprehend. (At least now in second grade and I don’t see that changing soon). Our current curriculum has little books that are 6 pages of text. That’s why I think this might be a good fit for us too.

Thank you so much for making a video and going over it so well! I was a LITTLE overwhelmed with the teacher’s edition 😬 This is our first year using Mosdos!

My 5th grader is using Mos Dos and we like it. I would like to try a language arts with full chapter books used but my daughter feels overwhelmed with them. Mos Dos has a great selection of stories that appeal to both girls and boys. Sometimes we start the next story and my daughter thinks she won't like it, but she is quickly drawn to the story.

I also enjoy the stories. They've gotten progressively longer which I don't mind and she hasn't noticed.

We have used Mosdos for two years and find it enjoyable and easy to use. I don't know why it doesn't get mentioned more? We don't use the workbook at all but use the text/TE more for a gentle intro to literary analysis and other products to round out LA.

It really doesn't get enough mention.

It doesn’t sound like the word God was censored, rather the curriculum chose to write it that way as it is customary in certain religions for various reasons. Most Jewish people write God that way.

G-d? I did not know that! I just assumed it was censored. We have encountered this twice now in Ruby.

Yes! For the Jewish people, and many Torah observant Christians, the name of God isn't supposed to be spoken (that's why God is called "Lord" in the OT) so they actually write it like that. For instance, many people say Yahway....but the actual way its written in the old testament I YHWY so that it can't be spoken but can be visually understood. I'm sure G-d is the same way.

This year I did a sampling of different programs. I do plan on MCT as my main spine for next year. Does Mosdos Ruby offer anything that MCT town level doesn't? I buy readers from other companies since my kid blows through books so I was thinking at minimum I could use this as a reader.

You could still use Mosdos, but I don't know why you would. That feels like way too much cost, time, and energy. If your kiddo loves reading I would suggest the novel studies from Hearth & Story instead.

It doesn’t sound like you use the teacher book for much. We are 3rd grade next year and I think this might be it for us. What do you use for grammar to compliment this? Do you do any other Language arts besides this, grammar, and spelling?
@MakingEverydayMagic

I have not felt like I've needed the half of the info in the teachers guide. We also use language smarts and first language lessons for grammar. Spelling you see and all about spelling for spelling. Nightzookeeper and RL Stine for writing.

So far, we really enjoy it. It is simple and easy to encourage creative writing. I'm taking the want to write over it being entirely sound writing as a win this year.
