In this video, I'm using my 4x5 large format camera and shooting Fomapan 100 black and white film.
I photograph a scene in the woods, a caravan that serves as a base for the Riddlesdown Model Flying Club and finish with a couple of shots towards Chiddingstone Castle across a field of rapeseed.
The film was developed in Rodinal (1+50) for 9 mins and scanned on an Epson V850 scanner.

I certainly enjoyed this video. Thank you for not putting any music over the video, that keeps it very calm and true. The B-Roll sound is sufficient. Keep it up, Craig! Also, the images were all great, as always. I especially liked the second one with the caravan. You managed to capture that scene very well.

All four were great shots, and all totally different compositions from each other which I really like. I think the first shot was my favourite, though if you ask me tomorrow I'll probably say a different one as all four were excellent. Now I don’t want to make you jealous talking about another KZfaqr's kit, and comparing "What’s in my bags" but Steve O'Nion has a special case for his banana. My ambition in life is to be as happy as your dog, is it Barney? He certainly worked out how to get through the gate much quicker than I would. An absolutely brilliant video, and unless I’m much mistaken it shows the value of a good recce and storing shots up for the right conditions. I really enjoyed this one very much.

@CraigPrentisPhoto
@CraigPrentisPhoto 2 жыл бұрын
That's a tricky one if you're starting from scratch. You can buy a camera at the cheaper end, but there's a lot of extras you need that push the cost up. Hiring to try is not really an option either. The MPP used here was the first one I bought and it came with a 135mm lens. It's not a bad way to go. It's well built, compact, good to learn the basics and then you can decide if you like it or not. You probably wouldn't lose any money if you decided to sell should it not work out.

Thought that your photo of the trailer ( as we say here in the states) was the best, especially with the filtering bringing out the character of the sky and clouds. Nice shots. I quite enjoyed the first shot; it reminds me of some I have attempted as well. I sometimes find the carvings / scratchings that people do interesting oddly enough. It detracts from the natural aspects, but tells a story even so. I find it confusing that people do it, having never had the urge myself. What compels them to carve initials into a tree or a rock? Anyway, thanks for the video!

We have the same camera, even the leather strap, the caravan shot was excellent and the 13.05 shot bar the flare, annoying especially if you have spent hours on it, subbed.

With adding more filter holders to build up the rings to thread on the red filter, do you find there is an issue with vignetting, or are you correcting in camera?
@CraigPrentisPhoto
@CraigPrentisPhoto 5 жыл бұрын
No vignetting as such but the third shot was a bit tricky with the tilt movement. Could see the rings/holders coming into the shot so had to watch out for that.

Hi Craig, I use a Pentax Spot Meter V So I cant average the light. well I don't know how to do an average reading. I usually meter for the dark spot and close one stop or open depending on what I want the image to look like. Might you know how I can do an average calculation on my meter? Thanks, Dominique.
@CraigPrentisPhoto
@CraigPrentisPhoto 5 жыл бұрын
I haven’t used that particular spotmeter but when I meter a scene myself, I do something similar to you. Meter for the darkest area that needs some detail and the brightest highlight and see what the exposure range is. I’ll usually stop down 1-2 stops from the darkest area and it tends to give me a very usable neg. I can usually just see the average point on the lcd display when the dark and highlight meter readings have been saved.

Craig Prentis on the shot of the caravan you did shoot with your point & shoot camera...is it to use the compact camera as a sort of note book or any other reason?
@CraigPrentisPhoto
@CraigPrentisPhoto 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I just use it to take various shots along the way as I can't shoot everything on LF. It's interesting comparing a 35mm frame with a shot on 4x5 as well!

Nice video. Just found your channel and subscribed. Fomapan 100 is nice, although I personally prefer Fomapan 200 rated at 100 ISO. Perhaps one should try both (just a roll or so on a medium format camera).

Thanks, yes I've tried Fomapan 200 in 120. I'm moving on to some Adox CHS100 II next. Might be worth a comparison with my last sheets of Foma and my FP4.

consider doing a test of that kind of shot using f:22 vs 45; with the diffraction at 45, you may be losing sharpness
