This song was popular when I was in Fifth Grade, and there was a sweet boy in my class named Bobby Nichols. He also had a voice made for this song. He would sing it in class just before Lunch. I think the Teacher enjoyed hearing him sing this. The last time I saw Bobby was the first day of school in Junior High. We met on the front steps as we entered the new building. We greeted each other with fond smiles of friendship. We had known each other since Second Grade. But we never saw each other again. We didn't meet in the halls, the Lunch Room, or on leaving at the end of the day to be picked up by our parents. I had always believed that he would become a famous 'Crooner'. But music changed, and so did my generation.

As long as we have the music J Frank Wilson and the Calivers will be with us. He was still here in San Angelo. He'd come by on Sunday mornings ask for a beer, sat on the couch, drew pictures for James and Jana and sang to John in my stomach. A really good guy and friend. He just couldn't handle singing songs so close to the wreck. You can get all the songs downloaded. I'm 75 and I still lose their music.

This song brings back memories of the sixties. J. Frank Wilson voice is haunting in this song. I also like Pearl Jams version because Eddie Vedder slows it down a bit. If J. Frank had sung it that way we would all cry even after we heard it.
@austinteutsch8 жыл бұрын
I just attended a funeral for J. Frank's uncle in San Marcos, Texas where J. Frank's daughter and I had a long talk. J. Frank was married 8 times. After Last Kiss, his career went no where because the British Invasion killed so many artists. He worked in the Texas oil fields for a while, then got disabled from prescription drugs and then all kinds of drugs. In 1990, I went to interview his mother in Lufkin, Texas and we went to J. Frank's grave at the Angelina Cemetery. He was a one hit wonder but a damn fine one!

@@jong0000 You say that as if that changes anything...
@jong00004 жыл бұрын
@@Richard_Nickerson certainly changes the claim that his career tanked because the British Invasion came along... "In October 1964, the British music magazine NME reported that Wilson had himself been involved in an auto accident near Lima, Ohio, in which his 27-year-old record producer, Sonley Roush, was killed, and Wilson was seriously injured. While J. Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers recorded many more songs, and "Last Kiss" was subsequently covered successfully by Wednesday and Pearl Jam, the band charted with only one other song, "Hey, Little One", which reached number 85. Wilson, with or without the Cavaliers, continued to release records until 1978. He started working offshore oilfield in late 1970s and 1980s in the Gulf of Mexico. Wilson died on October 4, 1991, at the age of 49, from alcoholism and complications from diabetes."
@Richard_Nickerson4 жыл бұрын
@@jong0000 All that other shit you dragged up as proof? Yeah, THAT is what ruins the claim regarding the British Invasion. The fact that the song was released just before the famous British Invasion officially took place doesn't actually prove it in and of itself. You successfully proved that the British Invasion isn't to blame, but you actually kinda proved your claim that the dates are why completely false. Congratulations, you played yourself.

On this day in 1965 {March 6th} J. Frank Wilson & the Cavaliers performed "Last Kiss" on the late Dick Clark's 'American Bandstand'... Six months earlier on September 5th, 1964 it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #2 {for 1 week} and spent 15 weeks on the Top 100... Nine years later on December 22nd, 1973 it re-entered the Top 100 for a five-week stay; peaking at #92... The song was originally recorded in 1961 by Wayne Cochran; his version didn't make the charts.

@@99672 She meant the iconic version. And it is, this is the version everyone thinks of if they aren't thinking of Pearl Jam's. Wayne sang it at just slightly the wrong tempo I think is the word to be catchy, and the cavaliers fixed the small problem with his singing which might be unfair but it is what it is. The words flow a lot better in this one and just feel hollow in Wayne's.

We were out on a date in my daddy's car We hadn't driven very far There in the road straight up ahead A car was stalled the engine was dead !! I couldn't stop - so I swerved to the right I'll never forget the sound that night The cryin' tires the busting glass The painful scream that I heard last .... Oh - where, oh where could my baby be? The Lord took her away from me !! She's gone to heaven, so I got to be good So I can see my baby when I leave this world .... When I woke up the rain was pouring down There were people standing all around Something warm running in my eyes ... But I found my baby somehow that night. I raised her head she smiled and said "Hold me darling for a little while" I held her close, I kissed her our last kiss I found the love that I knew I have missed ..... Well - now she's gone even though I hold her tight I lost the love of my life that night Oh - where oh where could my baby be? The Lord took her away from me She's gone to heaven, so I got to be good So I can see my baby when I leave this world ..... Uhmm Uh Uh ....
