The delivery of "I got rice" is just so cute, the tone and expression are adorable as heck. I hope your hitting tics doesn't cause you too much damage, I understand how dangerous it can be especially in the chest. Thank you for being willing to share your journey and help educate others about a serious condition that's still barely understood. I think it also really depends on the person; one of my best friends has Tourette's and he begs us to laugh because it makes him feel better about it and I laugh because his tics catch my off guard, not because of what they are. All my friends ask of that, whether it be tics or my friend falling (he has a bone disease, but asks we laugh if he falls because he thinks its funny to himself). It really depends on the person, so good on them for asking because you never know til you do :))

Not everyone who has Tourette’s has verbal tics. My husband has it as well but only has the physical tics that show in the form of his shoulder twitching. When he was growing up it also caused him to frequently have seizures and medication doesn’t stop it. When he was discharged from the military, the VA dosed him Heavily on two different sedatives (one being Valium) because they thought he was faking his Tourettes. His mother had all his paperwork right there that should have proven he wasn’t faking if they had read it. Because of this three VA nurses and two VA doctors in Georgia had their medical licenses permanently revoked due to malpractice

@@paikoateacat Hi! Yes, I have a tic where I slam my hand onto my chest. Sometimes I hit my throat which does cause me pain. I’ve had people hold my hand down which does help a bit. It does get annoying given the day or the person that is holding my fist down, however. Since I don’t have Tourette’s, (I have OCD tics), this may be different for me. But you can train yourself to stop doing tics given your circumstances. (My doctor’s words). It does depend on the person who is holding down my fist or trying to stop the tic, but I would say that it does get annoying. Again, I am speaking on personal experience and every person may be different. But I would say that the best thing to do is just to completely ignore the person’s tic. If they make a comment like “ow” it’s safe to ask if they are alright, acknowledging the tic. So no, I advise you to not stop it. P.S, tics don’t just hurt in general. The only reason they would hurt is if you jerked your head and popped your neck or if you like me, got hurt on impact. Thank you for your question ❤️

I'm so glad to hear this. I just stumbled upon another video of yours a couple minutes ago, where you had ticks with rice and I got rice. And... it made me laugh. I just thought that the way you say it is really funny, especially because it's not a planned thing. But I did feel bad laughing about it as well, because I imagine it must be annoying at times to have the ticks just happening, without being able to do anything about it. It's not nice to laugh about something like that. But the rice line is just... funny. So I was feeling very conflicted / guilty about it. So... yeah. I'm glad to hear that you think it's ok to laugh at the funny, not harmful/painful ones, like the rice. The chest pounding on the other hand wasn't funny at all. I hope it isn't as bad as it sounds / looks and you don't hurt yourself badly when having ticks like that.

I have chronic tic disorder, but was really close to simply having Tourette’s. I’ve taken medications for it for over half of my life although I feel as if they’re not working as well lately. The only tic I currently have is a weird throat sound, and people always think I’m laughing or coughing. I’ve always been open about it since it’s a natural thing and hasn’t necessarily ruined my life, but after explaining it to my neighbor once, she went around telling everyone I had a disease. Also unless I specifically say “CTD/Chronic Tic Disorder”, people think I’m an apartment building for insects. :D

I love your "I'm Friendly" cause it makes me think of myself. I only have physical movement ticks, and I tend to smack myself hard. I get looks all the time and I just want to tell them that "I'm friendly, I don't hate myself!" Yours makes me think your brain might want to tell others the same. 😊😊😊 Much love to you!

I have to admit, I giggled one day when, during a live, she began shouting something like "here come the communists!" I'm Deaf and rely on captions, so it kept starting perfectly normal sentences, then would say whatever it was about the communists, and then Keep going like nothing happened. It's hard not to giggle when someone says a sentence like "So I've got some great ideas about new topics for videos coming THE COMMUNISTS ARE COMING up in the next few months..." like, it's not really funny bc we know you must be really stressed for it to be happening, but also... come on. It's objectively funny.

YESSSS, I have Tourette’s and you said it perfectly! Laugh with me, please! In fact it makes me feel more comfortable! As long as I’m clearly not ticcing to the point it’s interrupting every single sentence I’m saying or I’m visibly having trouble breathing (common occurrences on my bad tic days) then I encourage it!

My mom's sympathetic nervous system was shot, she had dystonic spasms all throughout her body... She said we taught her to laugh instead of cry... And when things were worse I told it was going to be ok and she chose to believe me... The power of laughter and positivity is very powerful.

I felt this way when I used to not have great control of my autistic stims. I was good at being quiet with them, but not when I felt I "needed" to do it. I used to randomly kind of sing-say the letters "E", "H", and "M" in different ways and tones whenever I was happy or confused or frustrated. It made a lot of people smile for no reason, and since it was just me blowing off mental/emotional steam, I didn't mind if they thought it was funny. It was slightly awkward, but it was low-key a win-win situation. At least for me! I'm very aware autism and tourette's are two totally different experiences.

There was a boy in my 4th grade class who had a pretty bad case, and the teacher on his first day introduced us all and then said that today was a fun day to just do an art project and we were going to listen to our new friend. That day was full of laughter because his ticks were a lot of swear words, but after that it was just normal for us to hear random things in the classroom. He was so sweet.

also she helped me learn the difference between tics and echolalia. she said that tics are sort of like a sneeze- you can feel them coming, and they're involuntary. But for me, echolalia is kind of like the feeling you get when you pick up a pair of tongs. Theoretically, you could not click them- its a voluntary action. But sometimes i just do it subconsciously. I gotta do the click. And if she says bingo, i have to say it The Exact Same

The way your tic makes you say "I got rice" gives it the same vibe as "I got dough" and it just makes me want to cheer you on or give you a fast bump for having rice. Wishing you the best in your normalization quest. He may not be everyone's cup of tea but I know Ethan from H3H3 helped me understand Tourette's a lot. It's cool to see younger people keeping up the awareness!

I have suffered from non epileptic seizures most of my life, and some mirrored turretes tics. Well I use yo have ones where I would bark, meow, nay, moo, and even heehaa. There was one time I went into one and one of my uncles made the sounds back to me. It made my stress and anxiety in the moment go way down. And make the episode stop faster. I always loved when my family or friends would find silly ways to loosen my stress and also taught me that it's alright to laugh at my episodes and allow others to. I love that you've got a sense of humor and are good with others joining in with the laugh.

The “I got rice” went at exactly the perfect moment when you explained it after you said “if it’s something that I say that’s funny”! I found that interesting! Is there a specific precursor or feeling when you feel that it may happen such as intuition a moment earlier depending on the tic? I assume it of course can vary person to person as well, since everyone has their own unique experiences!

I don't have tics, but I stim a lot, often vocally. there is a difference between joining in on the situation and just being mean. personally I'd prefer people making light hearted jokes about something specific I've said than be weird about something I've done, and I hope that I come across as supportive and kind to others the same way I want people to be treating me. especially in situations I have little to no control over

I learned that it's very person dependent on whether they are ok with you laughing/acknowledging them at all. I was dating a man who has tourettes and he was sadly very ashamed of his tics... I was not ashamed of him at all, so he did become more comfortable when he was around me and stopped trying to suppress them (like he did at first). He had asked that I ignore them, so I did. To say that some of them were harder to ignore than others is an understatement, but it was never a point of contention. Not that anyone asked, but the tourettes had nothing to do with why we broke up. That wasn't even on the list of things that made incompatible; we just had different visions for the future, and we are still distant friends.
