Considering how terrible Cage started out, each death would have taken multiple resets to overcome and learn from. I think I read somewhere that the manga this movie is based on, the main character died somewhere between 10-100 million times, maybe more. Surviving the beach alone would have been so insane, every step you take differently would open new scenarios, so you'd have to adapt to literally everything in that environment until you perfectly mapped out your route through it all.

In a long list of great movies, this might actually be Tom Cruise's best movie. And how can you not love Emily Blunt in this? Both are just amazing. They have such fantastic chemistry, it's no wonder so many people want to see a sequel to this.

I like to imagine now that Cage has the power of the Omega, he's going to get together with Rita, grow old, has a bunch of kids and grandkids, then when he's really old on his deathbed, "My Family, I love all of you-" *boom* right back on the chopper.😂

The source material is "All You Need Is Kill" by Hirodhi Sakurazaka, an manga (Japanese graphic novel). One of two Sci-Fi films that Cruise made and was released back to back. The other one was Oblivion (2013), which was great too. Also Cruise's 2nd film with director Doug Liman (Knight and Day) and writer, Christopher McQuarrie (Jack Reacher, The Usual Suspects). This was at Comic-Con 2013 with the filmmakers and primary cast answering questions, showing descriptions of the film. I saw this in IMAX, which sold a lot of tickets for the format. Cruise as the reluctant hero was interesting. Emily Blunt as the baddest warrior was cool. The movie was good. It's ending is considered kind of anti-climatic. Ever since, a sequel has been teased over the years.

Remember though that most of the people on that base and on the battlefield have had all comms in and out turned off, so they wouldn't know about him or him being on TV. He is also a very recent TV personality and military member as he lost his video business at the beginning of the full scale effort, i.e. the Verdun and this assault.

Tough game - no save points. Learning patterns like the old Pac-Man arcade cabinets. I enjoy how the writing becomes more clever as it moves the story along. We are sometimes at a unique point or a repeat and how they reveal this keeps the pacing interesting.

21:24 The obvious flaw with the "have a script and hand it to everybody" is you would know the information, but you wouldn't have had it before your first reset, so you couldn't prepare it in advance and have copies made. 23:55-23:59 "Imagine running with that heavy suit" You are overlooking that the suit has to be designed to support the weight and offset the mass by using motors (of some sort. likely electric motors, hydraulics and such) it would be stupid to put a quarter ton of weapons and armor on a person without such assistance, because you literally just made "a bomb waiting to be blown up with a prisoner strapped inside controlling the guns.

I think the original name of the movie was "Live Die Repeat", and it is based on what happens when you play a video game. If you die, you go back to the spawn point. I guess "Edge of Tommorow" sounded better.

I recommended this movie to somebody and they told me they didn’t want to see it because they hated Tom Cruise. I told him to watch it because they got to see Tom Cruise die at least 100 times and that encouraged him, btw, he loved it as much as me 😂

Here is a fun thing to think about. How many times was Cage on that battlefield before he gained the power? The mimics reset the day to remember how the battle went and improve. But when we see Cage for the first time on the battlefield the enemy seems to know exactly what to do. Hitting the carriers for example, or having mimics buried in the sand waiting for squads. It makes me think the army has fought that battle a hundred times before Cage got the power himself.

@@RuntotheMovies Yes, that is the point of the Alpha. They keep doing probing attacks, resetting on purpose, and going from there. That is why they are so powerful and quick. That is also the reason why he can reset time to a certain point at the end of the movie while bringing the dead mimic fix in for his reset at the end of the movie.

this was the sleeper hit of that year...very poor marketing done for this film, so small turn-out at theaters...once word got around, everyone discovered how amazing it was...

Well ... they're not all that similar. This film is great, like so many Tom Cruise movies, especially his scifi action films. But the other is a cultural classic film that we now reference - even if we haven't seen it - because it can change the way you think about life. So if you haven't seen "Groundhog Day" yet, you must. You can see it any time, but of course it is thematic to see it on Groundhog Day.

For everyone saying it's based on "All You Need is Kill", "The Defence of Duffer's Drift" came almost a century earlier.

The only tenuous connection between "The Defence of Duffer's Drift" and "Edge of Tomorrow" (or "All You Need Is Kill" for that matter), is that the main character experiences the same day multiple times. How this happens, the setting, the characters involved, the end goal, etc. is vastly different enough that it's a huge stretch to say that the one was based on or influenced by the other.

Great movie. Other great time travel movies are The Butterfly Effect 2004 and Frequency 2000 . Also another great Tom Cruise movie which is not reacted at all is the first Jack Reacher movie.

The time he went under the truck and got squashed was the only time they went beyond his death, the sergeant talked. He did not wake up immediately. This suggests that he is on a different timeline, not a repeated timeline. Meaning those he left behind continued on with their timeline.

Yes, but then Emily's character would be in prison for murder in every timeline. I think there is a time delay, maybe 10 seconds, like when you want to reset the game, you hold the power button down for 10 seconds. I don't think there is an alternate timeline. The Alpha has the ability to reset the time back to a specific point and start again. He now has the ability to do the same but incorporate some changes.
