Most companies have given up on sending their managers to training on how to manage. Instead, they send them to cheerleading meetings where they are instructed on how to whip the troops into line.

Unfortunately, the bad bosses described in this video are the vast majority of bosses out there. And if you happen to work for a family-owned organization and aren't a member of that particular family, good luck to you! Hint: often the company name and the family name are the same but sometimes you'll be in for a surprise.

@@BillClinton228 facts can’t trust bosses often. They tend to have ulterior motives. It’s always to best to find a better job while you have one though! I’ve learned a lot and made more money with my new job. I could’ve stayed at my old job and I would’ve been miserable.

They always ask us how they can make things better for us, then never do them, instead they add the workload and treat you as if they are at war with you. I work on a cruise ship and this isn’t how it was when it started , it’s not even the owner of the ship’s vision. He has a lot of quotes on how to treat employees. The executives here are just ruthless.

11:15 If you unofficially speak to HR, there is a good chance that HR will "unofficially" tell your boss who is complaining about him, and you can imagine how that goes for you. Your written notes are for when HR comes to you, not for when you go to HR.

When I was an Executive Chef, the employees came to me with their complaints and concerns about my boss. His toxic behavior was getting worse and worse. I compiled all the complaints and reached out to my boss's boss and hr. In 3 months, I was terminated with no reason given. 6 months later, the director was terminated for misuse of company funds and drinking on the job.

I have a direct manager who: 1) Can't answer questions I ask or gives incorrect answers 2) Hoards information 3) Isn't proactive with communicating anything to me. All of the above leaves me in a situation where I have to fend for myself. Then, he'll turn around & say, why are you working on that? You should be working on x,y,z. I find myself stressed out all the time due to situations he's put me in. I'm not in a position to leave the job right away...economy isn't in the best place & companies are laying folks off. At the same time, I don't know how to continue surviving this.

A boss that is gossiping about others, is unethical, and insincere in feedback to manipulate you into doing things… that is what I learned in this last place. Also a place creating a forced family environment and simultaneously saying things like “I have problems with trust” over and over while also announcing how much trust is a big thing in a company at a company meeting.

I had a boss that told the CTO absolutely everything we did. If he wasnt happy with something he didnt talk to us directly, he just got angry and we got a meeting invitation from the CTO to "discuss our performance". Furthermore we were micromanaged and had to tell him what we were doing throughout the day. One day my headphones stopped working and I wanted to go buy new ones, I was told I must do it on my own time (these were headphones I needed for meetings etc). If micromanaging people, running to the CTO for every little issue and treating highly skilled professionals like sweatshop workers is considered as "good management" practice then the company has bigger problems. Needless to say I quit after a month and found another job pretty quickly as my skills are in demand.

A common one in my experience is a micromanaging boss getting irritated multiple times a day over things they failed to train everyone with. Consistent failure to train and emotionally temperamental when employees ask for help. Employees are often on eggshells when it comes to meetings and asking questions - cesspool undercurrent in company culture. It makes sense in military bootcamp when the literal goal is breaking everyone's psychology down and building soldiers which makes people stronger but it's disorganized and toxic in other careers only making people weaker, especially desk jobs primarily utilizing the mind - carrying that influence back home, to the bedroom. Document and record - no mercy on the note taking for legal resources, it can be dangerous to shrug off our own wellbeing. Nature isn't exactly capable of bottling up resentment forever without standing up or getting out.

I've noticed these "micromanagers" are often bad at their own jobs, they also often have one person that they "rely on" to do their jobs for them and cover up their problems. Also these people rarely follow their own rules. I worked for 2 managers like that, one of them promised me a whole bunch of things in the interview like "working remotely". In the beginning I was expected to come to the office just to have face time, however no one else came to the office so I didn't have face time with anyone. Eventually I found out that the owner of the company hated remote work but couldn't get the employees who had been working there since covid back in, so the manger would promise new hires remote work but in reality he wanted us to work from the office indefinitely. That is possibly the worst thing you can do as a manager, promise one thing in the interview and do something else once the person starts working for you, it's unethical, it's stupid and it ensures your employees dont respect you.

Giant red flag: nepotism arrangements. When the boss' wife/husband works in the office. Especially if they're not qualified for the role. Run far, far away and don't ever accept the job. Nothing good ever comes out of that. Or any form of nepotism really (friends, family members, etc). You, as the employee, will always be "wrong". Not to mention, if you have a legitimate complaint about a spouse, you can't exactly bring that up to the boss. Nepotism harms morale in the office and is a sure sign of a toxic place to work.

I have a useless boss who came from a different department from mine. He has no clue what we do on a daily basis and refuses to listen to some of us when we are trying to help him understand. He can't get us off the phone quick enough when we let him know if something isn't working. He isn't able to manage us effectively because he lacks the ability to listen and understand. He only cares about stats and has no concern of whether people are doing the job correctly or not, which can ultimately cause loss of contracts with our Clients and lead to job losses. I have never worked under such an inefficient manager.

I had a fellow manager hit almost ALL of these bad boss things. Sadly it got so toxic and out of hand that an hourly employee literally assaulted him on the truck bay. After his medical leave he literally came back with the same tactics. We had to have a mediation about several instances. He eventually got terminated in 2021 because he was a litigation risk. My point is Bad bosses get passes until they either get media attention or a possible lawsuit.

Communication! One day, my last boss said out of the blue "don't wait so long to ping me on these types of requests. I haven't even seen this until someone asked about it." I was so confused & taken back by her approach & lack of communication. Firstly, when she sent me this email, it had only been two days, which is nowhere near long for those types of requests. She never communicated her expectations regarding the timeline on the requests previously. Not once & nor is it written in a guidance. Secondly, she tried to blame ME for HER missing the e-mail in her own inbox. And thirdly, she STILL did not communicate her expectations regarding the timeline. Fourthly, I had done several of those requests before successfully & she never said anything about the timelines. Ugh I don't read minds! I feel like it was her way to be nasty, while throwing digs...which is one of many reasons why I left that job after 6 months & took a promotion 😊 she was very pissed about me leaving. That was satisfying 🤣🤷‍♀️

A boss I knew would say he was going to reduce pay and/or hours bc workers weren't doing their jobs. He expected constant moving at a fast pace while paying them minimum wage. Most of them are gard workers, collectively decided not to bust their butts bc of no recognition, raises, and constant changes of tasks. Meanwhile, he's on in phone, calling in, leaving to "run errands", gives no direction, yet demands others to take initiative & but ridicules it, refuses to order product ahead of time. When he discipline he normally yells & tells to take the day off. He refuses to properly train them. They live it when I come to help bc I do the opposite due to having actual mgmt training/skills & am a people person.

There do seem to be a lot of managers like it and I have always thought that they are just not competent and try to hide it by being unapproachable.

I have a bad manager who he and his dad (the owner) offered me a terminal manager position. I'll be moving from fuel truck driver to the manager spot. I have no experience and am trying to learn everything I can. With that being said, I'll most likely get my experience and move on to a larger company with a better reputation. It will suck because as a driver, I love working here and they don't need with me because I'm at the top of my game.

I had a boss like this and was lucky enough to get promoted before they ruined me. They would lead with discipline and create a toxic and interrogative environment. Sitting in a room while they sifted through my emails and questioned me vigorously was insanely stressful. One day I cracked under the pressure and asked them to stop. I told them that I got their point. They went home that weekend and ego tripped. I tried to make amends and they reinforced her power over me. I gave them the feedback that they were too intense and they said that my triggers “aren’t their problem”. To me it’s one thing to be insecure, I can empathize. But to steamroll your employees and blow off their feedback is a whole other thing. All of this persons employees feel this way about them and it’s turning a great company into a hellhole. I’m debating going to their manager with the rest of the team to bring this up. If this person gets promoted again they’ll destroy the culture

Yes, sad that many SMEs owners can’t do anything to eliminate these toxic managers. “You can shoot at them, but it ain’t easy OR impossible.” That’s why I prefer corporate over SMEs.

I have been quite fortunate,I have had more good bosses than bad ones, some bosses have been really good to work for but I have also had some bad ones, one was really bad, thankfully I no longer work there. I would say 5 out of 9 which isn't too bad when I hear about some of the bosses of companies.

Most bosses I have had have been regular nice people. But my current boss thinks he is Tony Montana and always resort to anger and conflict over the most miniscule stuff. This led me to this video btw, I will most likely look for a new gig.

Yesterday i quit my highest payment job ever in 20 years due to a very toxic female manager. i was working there for the last 1 year and some days. i lost a big bonus and a great position which is very hard to find in my country while having a lot of responsibilities at home. If i can do it and regain my self respect and deny to be treated like an incapable professional then anybody can do it.

I had bumped heads with my store manager. He critiques how I do a certain task but it’s getting done. He had the nerve to try atalk down on me on sales floor. I didn’t like that and said can I talk to you in the office. We go to the office and he said you don’t summon me to the office. I said how i don’t see what the problem is the way I’m doing things, you are not helping me and I’m getting it done. First off, you don’t talk to me like that out there. If you need to address me , do that in private. I was giving him the grace of talking to him in the office instead of having that conversation on the floor. He said he didn’t like the way I talked to him. He always talks down on others and is very rude. I set him straight to let him know I’m not the one. Now, he is quiet around me and avoids eye contact. He is a joke. Then he kept saying I’m the boss. You shouldn’t have to tell me you are a boss… Like a lion doesn’t have to tell you it’s a lion. I just do my job.

I love my job. 99 percent of my coworkers are great. I dont want to resign. The problem is management. I dont believe they are trained properly once they get promoted. My current supervisor got promoted and was instantly transferred to my facility and put in charge of ten employees. Years ago they would come talk to you, give you a warning, and a slap on the wrist. Now its no people skills, pull out a copy of the policy, and give out write ups. Furthermore the bad mouth staff among each other. I have a meeting coming up with hr about some other things, but should I bring up all the dysfunction going on, or am I going to look like a complainer? Ive been there sixteen years and believe my insight should at least be listened to. I have possible solutions to these issues I can bring to the table. Some people tell me if I go the defense and complain, that is being a victim. I see it as speaking up, offering solutions and being proactive.
