Building a DIY Lean to Greenhouse. This is part 1 of 2, framing the greenhouse.
living in zone 7a means I should be able to grow food year round with a little preparation. Having a greenhouse will be a huge step in that direction.

Hello, Great video instruction. Where did you purchase your twin wall 8 mm polycarbonate and has it held up well? Does it have a UV film covering on the exterior? Thanks for your help.

Ginger Mandy hello! I purchased the poly sheets from greenhousemegastore.com and they have been perfect so far after a few seasons. They allow 80% light transmission but don’t think there’s uv film of any kind after the packaging coating is removed. Here’s a link www.greenhousemegastore.com/coverings/plastic-sheets/polycarbonate-sheets/easy-ship-2-ft-wide-twinwall-polycarbonate?returnurl=%2fcoverings%2fplastic-sheets%2fpolycarbonate-sheets%2f Hope this helps!! Will there be any issues with the exterior siding on the shed because of the moisture in the green house. Great job Thank you
@fireballmalone1
@fireballmalone1 6 жыл бұрын
redwood1957 I think because of the orientation of the greenhouse the back wall, shed wall, gets sunlight first and didn’t seem to have any issues with the moisture yet. Over the coming years will be the real test but it is treated material so fingers crossed there aren’t any issues

That’s great to hear that you’re going to building a greenhouse! I really enjoy mine and it has proven to be a great little investment. Unfortunately, I kind of “wing it” when I’m building stuff and my idea changes so much during the process, I rarely ever write it down. I looked at zone 7a on a map, wondering if you have snow in your area and if so, does the pitch of your roof handle it well?
@fireballmalone1
@fireballmalone1 2 жыл бұрын
We do get a little snow every year, but the most I’ve seen is about 4 inches at one time. The roof is actually fairly strong and I think it would handle some decent weight. I’ve layer across is while cleaning it and it never even made a sound. Hope this helps and thanks for the question. Have a great growing season! Cheers

Had a question, did you dig down or just level it and sit it on the bricks. On the ground? That's where I am stuck because I have a gas line where my walkway will be on a 4ft x 18ft greenhouse lean-to I am wanting to do and figure it wouldn't settle to much over time I would hope but not by any means a pro builder. HELP spring is coming
@fireballmalone1
@fireballmalone1 3 жыл бұрын
Honestly, the only digging I did was to level higher areas. The bricks were just layer on the ground and leveled as best I could. It’s been a couple years and it’s never proven to be any kind of issue. I say just build up from the ground and get things as level and square as you’re able and go for it. It’s probably going to be amazing! Spring and fall are so much more fun, and productive with a greenhouse. And in winter I like to just go out there with tea or coffee and just chill. I really hope this helps and wish you the best with your build and growing season! Cheers

Wish you the best with finding that place as well. Cheers!

Hey! Thanks for your video. How did you anchor the greenhouse to the ground?
@fireballmalone1
@fireballmalone1 4 жыл бұрын
Chelsie Morgan Thanks! Actually it’s really only attached to the shed on the back wall, no posts were buried or cemented. I’ve been up on the roof and we have had some pretty severe storms...knock on wood, and it has been fine. If I were to do it again I probably would have dug down to two outside finer posts and cemented them, but it hasn’t shown to be necessary after a few years of use. Cheers

Wondering why you didn't start out with two 4x4" posts (in concrete) at the corners?
@fireballmalone1
@fireballmalone1 4 жыл бұрын
I had considered that and the other builds I have done were built that way. Honestly, due to my inexperience as a builder and the small size of this little project I didn't think it was necessary. I have been on the roof and it hasn't ever shown any signs of weakness, thankfully. If I were to build it now, that would probably be something that would be an obvious change in the integrity of the build. I appreciate the insight. Cheers!
