Hi Rob. I have been making Reusable Grocery Bags for a while with an attached pouch. I took a look at your tutorial to see how yours was different and saw you double roll the handles while you were sewing them. I have been ironing, folding and ironing again and found your method such a time saver. I appreciate your tutorials and I always learn something new.

Great idea for a bag, Rob. Thanks for the tutorial. The only thing I'd do differently is french seams on the bag sides (i.e. sew 1/4" seam *wrong sides together*, then flip the bag inside out and sew a 3/8" seam with right sides together). That way, you have stronger side seams and no fraying edges inside your bag! ~Diana from Toronto

Hi Diana! Thank you for tuning in! The French seams are definitely a great idea, and can certainly be added to this bag, no problem! I hope you are having a blast sewing!

When cleaning my sewing room I realized I have lots of extra leftover fabric from years (ok maybe LOTS of years) ago and this is a great way to use up that fabric and give away to friends. It could also be made in a smaller size since some fabric scraps are smaller, just keep the measurements proportional. These bags are also so wonderful to take on vacation, they pack easily and hold lots of vacation shopping stuff. Thanks for your videos, sharing your knowledge and enthusiasm for sewing and quilting.

Can’t wait to try this simple style. By the way I saw a mention of the tshirt bags. They also make a great holder for a small trash can in between the seats of a van. I slid the handles over the front arm rests and the bag dangles at the back of the console area. The trash can slides down inside and now those little feet don’t kick it over!

@Greg Myers These are a great way to use up leftover fabric. I embroider on one side with fruit and vegetable designs and use a plain fabric. You can also personalise them with your friends names etc. People love them as gifts as well. You can't compare them to the flimsy $Dollar bags you can buy.

Another great video! I was looking for a quick bag to make as my daughter's day-care pack for everyday. Diapers, change of clothes, teddy, and a bottle. One for each day of the week. Romanesco tastes delicious roasted with drizzled with olive oil and parmesan cheese. When done correctly (not frozen, not from a can, not bitter) Brussel sprouts are actually my favorite veggie. To get rid of the bitterness everyone hates you have to peel the outside leaves. Vegetables are so good for us and I'm constantly 'hiding' them my family's food. Cauliflower is wonderfully adaptable (I even put it in my smoothies. I had a non-potato phase and discovered celeriac. I know use that in my soups. No one has ever guessed that there's no potato in my soup. Rob, keep up the great work! I may not love all of your projects (that's not a dig, trust me, you wouldn't lurve all of mine either) -- but you bring elements of a great teacher. Your enthusiasm is infectious! Stay awesome!

I had to google it. Looks like a relative of broccoli but I think it has somewhat the texture of cauliflower. Really pretty. I have had it and loved it. My store hasn't carried it but, I might find it at the farmers' market. I'd love to add it to my list of loved vegis. I love this bag and want to make dozens. I like seeing a guy sewing. If you can run a jig saw, you can run a sewing machine. Also the other way around. If you can run a sewing machine, you can run a saw, drill, sander. Great to see you here. I subbed. I've gone there all my life and I'm 64 years old! The market has been there since 1845. We always bring a cooler and a few totes. I'll be making several of these to replace my other totes. Romanesco? All of the stores in my state are charging for plastic bags, most stores down have paper bags so you either pay for plastic or have your own bags, most stores sell bags but they can be a little costly. So when I go to faires I pick up all of the bags that places use for advertising. They give them away for free. They are sometimes they are a good size. Great for shopping. Try this sometime, xoxo

I live in Washington state in Tacoma it's on the western side of the state by the water that comes in from the ocean called pudget sound, below Seattle. The stores charge anywhere from 5 cents up to 1.50. Some even charge if you have your own bag. The dollar store charge 5 cents each and no stores offer there boxes. Some even tell you that it's shoplifting if you use the box and take it with you.

@Greg Myers All States in Australia have banned the use of single use plastic bags. Supermarkets here now charge about 15-20 cents for each multiple use bag you require and cool bags for dairy, meat etc cost about $2. These bags are also not very strong so you need to keep buying them time and again. I have tried covering the bags, especially the cold ones but they are so flimsy it is not worth the effort. The zippers in particular are crappy. I make my own and sell some as well. My cold bags lined with insulbrite and with a strong zipper sell really well. I make them to order and people pay about $30 for a cold bag and about $15 for a normal one. I line them all and use triple stitch on all seams so they will last forever.

I've eaten romanesco under its older name, broccoflower. It was pretty good, but I decided that I'd rather just have a mix of broccoli and cauliflower. Less expensive too. I like all kinds of vegetables, from ordinary carrots and peas and green beans and corn, to more exotic eggplant and fennel (LOVE fennel!) and celeriac and parsnips. I want to make a couple dozen of these bags and present them to my quilty friends. The pockets are a wonderful addition.

Love this project 😍 Getting materials and machine ready to make a few tomorrow and I thought, I might make only one pocket and use the other pocketpiece to make a small bag/pouch just big enough to hold the folded up grocery bag, when not in use. Already looking forward to your next tutorial 😃😃

Great idea Carina! I was just thinking about how to consolidate all those beautiful bags! Maybe I can put them all in my second glove compartment in my truck. I’m always forgetting to bring bags for shopping

Add a zipper to the pockets and you can place your wallet or mobile (cell) phone in them if you are going to the markets. Then you can leave your heavy handbag at home or in the car.

More functional projects please---great video! I.e. martha stewart and many others have some great project books---many of us just feel a little intimidated by them---or some pintrest things ....either way it would be really cool to see some of those things made on video :-) Love ya Rob

Romanesco is only thought to be a hybrid, but is related to both broccoli and cauliflower. The cool thing is that it grows in a fractal pattern. Sounds great. I had to look it up though. Love your videos, hope you are still recording in 2019 - that's "when" I am!
