Amazing tips. You should assemble similar tips for other situations, like future and past tense. Then you are the queen of easy Portuguese.

It's quite complex. As a native speaker, I use the subjunctive mood a lot. Without it, I will have to limit myself with simple sentences. If I have to express wishes, hopes, desires etc, it's a bit complex to avoid the subjective mood in this case.

Very helpful. I've spent a few years learning/using indicative tenses to cover basic communication. Watching movies with subtitles I quickly discovered subjunctive tense and thought, uh oh, I'll lose my kids following me re daily usage. This will keep us flowing with the basics.

Sandra, adoraria acrescentar algo na caixa dos comentários. Isto pode parecer extranho para alguns compatriotas, mas como eu sou do norte uso com certa frequencia " Quereria e gostaria". Eu gostaria de falar com a Ana. Eu quereria um café com leite se faz favor. Com certeza, alguns lusitanos usam o pretérito imperfeito" Eu queria falar consigo" "Eu gostaria de ganhar a lotaria", mas eu prefiro o condicional. Para os meus ouvidos, soa mais correto. Eu tenho a inclinação de usar uma linguagem sofisticada e formal.

Obrigada por partilhares. Sim é verdade que em algumas regiões se dá mais uso a alguns tempos verbais do que a outros. Não é essa a beleza e riqueza da nossa língua? Eu pessoalmente uso muito o "gostaria", mas não tanto o "quereria".

Eu também sou do norte, mas não concordo muito contigo. Aqui ouve-se usar muito mais o pretérito imperfeito do que o condicional, e nunca ouvi ninguém a dizer "quereria". No entanto, sim, também acho mais correto usar o condicional do que o pretérito imperfeito nas situações que referiste.

@@carlosmagalhaes7109 Nunca ouvi ninguém a usar o condicional. Carlos, tu estás a falar do registo informal e não do formal. Estou-te a falar da linguagem escrita. Com certeza que o pretérito imperfeito se usa muito mais que o condicional, especialmente na linguagem da rua. Não se trata de concordar com ninguém. Cada pessoa fala a sua maneira, e todas as variantes são respeitadas. Não podemos pretender que a língua portuguesa seja uniforme. Há certos termos que desconhecemos do português. Temos uma grande sorte de falar de variantes e sotaques diferentes, e não de dialetos que se afastam tanto da língua padrão que parece até outra linguagem. No outro dia estive a falar com alguém dos Açores e não tive problemas em perceber o que o cliente me estava a dizer por telefone. No entanto quando falo com suiços que falam um dialeto da língua alemã, tenho que dizer-lhes que tem que falar a língua oficial que se aprende na escola para que eu possa perceber.

Provavelmente vou ao médico o mês que vem- Esse provavelmente ou possivelmente representa um grado de certeza muito alto. É possível que ou é provável que a minha mãe esteja numa consulta no médico de família. Aqui estou a hesitar. Realmente não sei se ela está no médico ou noutro sítio. Porém, se eu disser- provavelmente ela está na consulta com o doutor José, estou a dizer que existem muitas possibilidades que ela esteja lá. O grau de certeza com as palavras" Possivelmente, provavelmente é muito mais alto que se eu dissesse talvez, é possível que, é provável que. Possivelmente vou ao médico a semana que vem- A probabilidade que isso aconteça é de um 80%. É possível que vá ao médico - A possibilidade que isso aconteça é de um 50%- Aqui estás a mostrar certa incerteza. 7:07 Esse gostava é muito usado em Portugal, mas eu não gosto dele. Why can you say ‘ acho que isso não é verdade ‘?

Hi Bard! With the verb achar, if the negative is before the verb you use the subjunctive. But when the negative comes after the verb the verb stays in the Indicative. Acho que está frio / Acho que não está frio / Não acho que esteja frio. Hope this helped! Bom fim de semana.
