Learn the correct way to crimp OEM a terminal pin to a shielded cable.
This is just one small piece of knowledge from a detailed course.
With the right tools and materials, it is easy to repeatably get reliable crimps which are just one reason why crimping is preferred over soldering in most circumstances relating to motorsport wiring harness construction.

Fantastic EFI building harnesses, when I worked at the largest wiring manufacturers in the world we had a quality process where crip termination tools were calibrated, three tests "pull test" (pulling terminals from the wire) we tested two at the beginning of a run of crimped terminations two in the middle and two at the end, this ensures a quality crimp through out, hope this may help in the future of manufacturing these EFI harnesses, quality is better than quantity :-)

Nice video HPA. I need information that I cannot easily find on your forum, so let me ask here. How can I find a supplier for crimp terminals that would be equal in quality to the Toyota pins found in the connectors of my 1994 Celica. I want to DIM (Do It Myself) when repairing or adding wiring in my restoration project. Toyota wants me to buy pre-crimped/with wire solutions and I despise the thought of using butt connectors in my wiring harness, and HATE the thought of spending money that fast.

There are a bunch of wiring suppliers listed on the HPA forum. The best on for you just depends on your location, timeframe and also what other materials you might need. Check out this section here to get started: www.hpacademy.com/forum/efi-wiring-fundamentals/ - Taz.

Shielded cable. It is used for critical inputs, like knock or engine speed and position sensors. The shielded braid is grounded on only one side (the ECU), and it can be a bit tricky to work with when it comes to getting it through bulkhead connectors etc, but nothing impossible 😎 - Taz. www.hpacademy.com/blog/shielded-cable-101-motorsport-wiring-lesson-5-of-5/?

As this one wire took over seven minutes from cutting to crimping just how much time would a harness with 30 wires take? 210 minutes or 3 1/2 hours. No wonder I stopped messing with these things decades ago.

Quicker when you're not making a video on it, however, with wiring you get out what you put in. If you want to take shortcuts to throw things together and save time then you're going to be doing things more than once (costing more money and time in the long run), or better yet you should just get a trusted professional to do a proper job for you. Wiring isn't for everyone and that's OK - Taz.

Fuck scoring with a knife, just use a set of wire strippers to pop the outer jacket off the twisted pair. So much easier, faster and less likely to accidently damage the inner cores.

As a aircraft license mechanic you are not to fold the wire over like you have done.
@2li6tcaogh
@2li6tcaogh 3 жыл бұрын
Came here to say the same thing. However, since the folded over wire fits into the terminal, that may suggest that he is using the wrong gauge wire for the terminals. That terminal looks more appropriate for 14 gauge wire.
