I would like to compliment you. Or reference I am an old Marine Vietnam Veteran. I admire your skill, resource, determination, but mostly courage. To be so far away from home in a land far away, in the dark, surrounded by danger, and just sailing on, alone. That , my dear, is courage. I, salute you! 😘

Mike I am also an old Marine Vietnam Vet. I’m Also a sailor that sailed around the world solo in a small boat . So I know what it takes to do that. She has a lot of courage and tenacity. I was 65 when I did it so it was not easy. But I now know how to do it so next time it will no be as hard.

I'm an old guy but I'm the father of 2 daughters, a step dad to two more, uncle to 5 nieces and a grandfather to two younger girls so I'm really drawn to the vids of young women who have the knowledge and the outright courage to sail and explore. I've always encouraged my own daughters to follow their own path and plan their way accordingly....I usually tell them to pick their oceans with care and the way they cross those oceans with even more care. There are several women who post on YT who are amazing and you are one of them so please sail with care and keep your boat and gear in good condition. You might not realize it but you are blazing the trails for others to follow and believe me, they will follow. Excellent job, all the way around. Be safe and God Bless You.

The shaft packing strikes me as a relatively minor problem that should not be difficult to address if you can get it out of the water. I hope you have the packing on order. The tuamotus has a popular boatyard where many people leave boats for the season, or service them...but so does Tonga, and various other places. Haul outs are expensive....... but you need to address this. It will only get worse. One of the several reasons outboards appeal to me........ no hull penetrations below the waterline is high on my list!

I've repacked the shaft while in-water. It's not difficult and not very risky. as long as you set up and are ready with the packing and tools, and with a bilge pump you know works, you can do it. if you want to hedge you bet, just get two of the packing strips and jump in and press one in a bit around the shaft and the hull. that'll slow the water when you pull the nut off to repack on the inside. You can do it.

yup - polynesian navigation clues are cool. But, clouds don't stick on high peaks as much as they are caused by the land under them (heated moist air rising and then condensing at altitude). The Maori name for NZ is Land of the Long White Cloud - visible 100s of miles offshore. The ancient navigators used lots of clues - birds, currents, waves bouncing off distant unseen low atolls, etc. It's really neat stuff.

Great sailing, just letting you know what you can handle and choose to be in. The rip tide and ocean swells can make quite dangerous conditions in my bay. I rather enjoy the big swells as long as I stay out of the breakers.

I had a similar experience in the pass in Rangiroa with a outboard powered trimaran and an incoming tide.Very high pucker factor. As far as turning around goes, a salty old dog once told me "I've never once been sorry I turned around, but I've been sorry when I haven't", a mantra I took along when I was making a lot of my living delivering sailboats, Glad it worked out for you this time. I loved the Tuamotus, but it was a nerve wracking place in the days before GPS. Love your site but am too poor to be a sponsor. I will send you a dyneema topping lift though if you give me the length. The current one gives me the shits. Sail safely on your way West!

Amazing Girl that was an amazing example of a great sailor ❤ doing spectacular things to get out of what could have ended in disaster in lesser hands! I guess it's further proof as if proof was needed of the value of a dependable engine for just such situations where there just isn't enough searoom to sail out of trouble. No doubt in the days before engines the lack of one saw the sad end of many a fine ship. I hope the weather improves for you but at least you have the shelter of those big mountains to give you a chance to catch up on lost sleep! Sweet dreams!
