I am from Texas. I always pulled for the Texas teams in the NBA, but when Larry Bird and those 80s Celtic teams were dominating the decade along with the Lakers, because of Larry Bird , and the beautiful team basketball concept that the Celtics employed, I was pulling for the Celtics against EVERYBODY! This includes against the Rockets in the 81, and 86 Finals... Larry and Magic literally saved the NBA. Television networks didn't even show the NBA playoffs live in those days. They would televise the games on tape delay AFTER the regular prime time The league was dying. attendance was down. There was very little interest among the average sports fan. Then Larry and Magic showed up and within just a few years professional basketball was not just relevant, it became " must - see".

Ive ;istened to all the sides of the debate over who the greatest basketball player was. I loved watching Jordan in college at NC and Wilt Chamberlain was great and so dominant, and of course there is Kareem, Kobe, Magic etc etc But when you break down all the facets of the game and look at each player there is only one player who was great in every facet of the game and that was Larry Bird. What made him super special was his head for the game. If Larry Bird is not the greatest he sure as hell is in the conversation. The man was the complete package.
@dannymartinez93712 жыл бұрын
I will always maintain that if Bird were Black, he would be considered the GOAT. People fans and critics would just say, you can't play basketball better than Larry Bird. He would be Pele of soccer and Jimi Hendrix of guitar heroes. But because the NBA has been dominated by Black super star players, Bird is a "top ten" player.

I was fortunate enough to be able to see Larry play in Indianapolis against the Pacers twice. I was also able to see him play in Larry’s Game a fund raiser for the Boys Club. He was the hardest working and hardest playing man I have ever seen play the game. Diving for lose balls and sacrificing his body on many occasions. I will never forget the time he went for the ball against the Pacers in Boston and broke the bones around his eye. He went to the locker room and then came back out to play and win the game. He could do things that most guards couldn’t do when passing the ball. He will be what his mother said, the Greatest Player Ever to play in the NBA. I have seen great players who could do a lot of things good but Larry did everything great. There will never be another Larry Bird.

I love this video. It shows Larry not only as the great player he was but a really nice guy too. Someone who had a lot of problems and a hard life but he never gave up. Well, I thank coach Hodges for pursuing Bird til he accepted his deal. Larry is basketball well done, playing for the team always. The final minutes with the music of Hoosiers make me goosebumps, so much emotion and the real spirit of this beautiful sport. Team, team, team... I was born in 1977, so I enjoyed the last years after the championships. I think those years showed the emotional part in Larry's career. Imho he was the best even those years. Boston was competitive and his average stats the last four years, about 22 ppg, 9,,5 rpg, 7, 2 apg, 1,5 spg, 0,9 bpg, 46% fg, 37% 3g, 92% ft, are incredible playing with pain. I have no doubt he is the best ever player and the most professional and I'll never forget him. In fact, in my NBA live mobile he is always the first player I'm looking for. It's a way of keeping his playing days alive. Thanks Larry, there will never ever ever ever be another Larry Bird.

The way he described his grandmother made me think of mine. A godly, church-goin' lady who was loved by all who knew her and served everyone in the family however she could - even strangers! Can hardly wait to see her again! I know I will because we both trusted in Jesus Christ to save us from the penalty of our sins. I hate most churches nowadays - too much politics and business, but I love the Lord and His Word, the old KIng James Bible! I also love basketball and love to watch anything about Larry Legend! Thanks for the video!

My interest in the NBA began and ended with Larry Bird.

That’s ridiculous. There have been so many others players that are absolutely incredible to watch, charismatic, leaders and gentlemen off the court. Larry was amazing but so are so many others. I have a guess what made Larry so different to bandwagon fans like yourselves and I believe I can speak for the NBA community of dedicated fans when I say, please stick to golf.

@@dwigg7700 you fuckwit. Larry bird was the most intelligent basketball player ever. The toughest player ever. he played the game how it should of been played. No nba player played liked bird. You must be a butthurt black, that a white person dominated the sport. Maybe you should stick to shutting your hole up.

Mark Middaugh Don’t forget magic. There will never be Bird without Johnson, and vice versa.

+Mark Middaugh Likely not for the same reasons as yours, but a very similar thing happened with NHL/Boston Bruins permanently losing a fan when my uncle learned the Bs traded Bobby Orr to Chicago. He had season tickets that year, ripped them up and never watched another Bruins game again.
