LEGO Thinks These Actors Look The Same

My most common complaint when it comes to minifigures is the reuse of face prints, in some cases it can work well and others it feels like a cop out. According to LEGOs design choices (or cost saving measures), these are the actors that LEGO think look the same.

“Bucky’s face” actually first appeared on Owen Grady in 2014, then Star Lord in 2014, then Bucky in 2016, then Star Lord in 2017 Also the Peter Parker face was first used on Henry which is why it looks exactly like Brenton Thwaites and it was exclusive to the Silent Mary

imo Young Han's face works a lot better for Hawkeye than it ever did for Han or Cedric, I feel like the face LEGO made was very much trying to portray a young Harrison Ford rather than Young Han's actor. Btw, Star-Lord's head was used for him 2 years before they used it for Bucky

I agree, even though Hawkeye should've had the older Han's face. Heck, there's even one in the Carbon Freeze chamber with a worried, open mouth, with works PERFECTLY for his Ronin character in the movie.

The 2010 minifig and the yellow version of the figure from 2002 had exclusive face prints in addition to the CMF.

I didn’t count the CMF and as for the yellow heads I get to angry that when it was harder to make more faces they made new ones but when it’s a lot simpler she gets the same old one.

One head i tend to use for Tom Holland is the Marty McFly one from Lego Dimensions, as i found that it looks a bit like him, as it has bit of a youthful look to it

The face of Peter Parker was first used for Henry, its Henry’s face and it matches him perfectly.

I remember the excitement of seeing a new actor get represented in Lego for the first time - e.g. the Jake Gyllenhaal face from Prince of Persia! It really is annoying getting the same generic faces over and over now, it takes that excitement right out of it. Great job highlighting this Holly 👏

personally I don't mid the shared heads, I think it works for slightly similar looking people and using them and not going into *too* much detail like with the Clone Wars faces. The whole skin tone thing irks me but oh well. Just some quick fixers for the video, it wasn't used with Draco first it was with Kaz from Star Wars Resistance in January of 2019 and the "Bucky" head was used first for Chris Pratt in Guardians of the Galaxy and then the Jurrasic World Sets. Bucky used the head first in 2016, 2 years after it was first used if I am correct.

I use the old Luke Skywalker face (ca. 2010-2011) for him, I think the 8092 Landspeeder was the cheapest set with it

To be fair the Draco face was originally used for Kaz from Star Wars: Resistance who might be of Asian descent. However, that character is younger than Shang-Chi and especially Happy Hogan.

This is why I'm going through and replacing heads with custom heads from Firestar Toys cos Sabine from Rebels is not white so I've got her a skin tone that is more represented of her skin tone.

My thing is, I like to switch out different minifigure heads, that I feel look more accurate to the actor. Like, with Bucky, I replaced it with Poe Damerons head. It really frustrates me to see lego recycling minifigure heads.

They made a PERFECT Loki head in 2017 for Ragnarok and then they just used the Lex Luthor head in the new juniors set. Also, why wasn’t the also PERFECT Chris Pratt head made for Jurassic World used for Star-Lord in Infinity War?

Awesome video Holly! Definitely agree on all accounts. I was so disappointed seeing that the Shang-Chi sets used "white" faces when the majority of the characters are Asian and this would've been a massive opportunity for LEGO to give us more unique Asian-coded heads/prints! When else will LEGO be making minifigs based on an almost entirely Asian cast? What a wasted opportunity.

But Asian skin tones vary and aren’t all one shade. I’m Asian and feel the lighter tone is more accurate to Simu Liu. We need to be looking at the heads based on tone, rather than designating one specifically for an ethnicity.

Personally the two that look the least like the actors are the Mandarin and Jessie Eisenberg Lex Luthor, the generic smiley face print of two dots and a smile looks more accurate.

How can we have new molds for almost every vidyo character, which are 5 and 20 dollars, but then we can't even get a new face print for named characters? I understand City, and the stormtroopers, but licensed characters using the same head? Characters in the same themes? Characters in the same set (Tanker Truck Take Down)? What the heck Lego?

Finally someone makes a video about this. Also, Bellatrix uses a face print in the new burrow set that was used for mantis who isn’t even a freaking human. Dammit LEGO if one of your slogans is “only the best is good enough” then either freaking live up to it or don’t say it, but if you don’t say it you would kind of be shaming Ole Kirk Christiansen since it was his motto. So live up to it LEGO.

Lego ALWAYS cheaps out on Marvel's diverse movies such as Black Panther and Captain Marvel. BP they came out with only TWO sets and Captain Marvel getting only ONE set plus on the Captain Marvel minifigure they re-used Qira's face print AND Black Widow's hair shape! ...Both those movies were the best selling solo superhero movies of the late 2010s.

With liscenced sets, particularly movie tie in sets, there is little incentive for Lego to make unique face prints. They’ll be on shelves for a year and a half maybe for a film that will lose its merchandise buzz in about 6 months at that. Movie comes out. Lego releases set to cash in on movie or show. Movie or show ends its run. Set retires. Honestly, if they did have accurate actor faces, theyd look creepy. Minifigs all have the same eyes and no nose (for most part) to be as universal as possible. You couldnt get really accurate even if you wanted to.

I mean its a tad difficult to represent a wookie with the same flesh coloured draco face :P . But on a more serious note its probably to do with how successful the lines are.

I don’t know what you’re talking about. I watched Shang-Chi and it was only when I read the credits that I realised Wen Wu was played by Tony Leung and not Jessie Eisenberg.
