My thought on this: Patrick Kane is a very good fit for the Red Wings at this point in his career and he knows it. So does Yzerman. I see him staying in Detroit because he knows this team is competing now and they are just a few pieces away from being a real powerhouse again. And he also knows he could be a very big part of that. I see him getting another contract with Detroit because he proved to us he is still the player he once was. He can demand a higher salary because his presence in the locker room has got to be a benefit for all the younger players in the organization that are here or soon to come up. I don't think we are going to just let him go that easily.

Why are we speculating? Kane isn’t going to say either way because he wants the best offer possible.

What people don't understand is players want to play hockey. They don't care about contract talks. If his agent tells him Detroit is a good spot and the money is right he'll be back. Most players across all professional sports have teams on their list and Detroit is obviously still on his list so he defers everything to his agent and will listen and make a decision. But he also recognizes that he proved his worth and deserves the right to explore his options.

Yep. Only very rarely do you get players openly expressing distaste for a team. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it in hockey, but I’ve certainly seen it in baseball.

Everything before this Kane was very "Yeah, this place is a good fit, I'm enjoying it". Then the end-of-season media from Y and coach was all "yeah, it'll be hard to keep him, but it'd be great if we could." makes me think they have already been talking and are far apart on the $$. I dont understand the full picture, but hope we can put a little more in the pot to keep him. He liked playing here and he was a big asset. I think he has a lot of hockey left to play and I think he's a great guy to have around our younger guys.

The biggest argument against it is that the Red Wings will likely not win a cup by the time Kane retires. If that's truly what he's after in his heart of hearts, walking away might be the best way to chase that goal. Regardless of what happens, Raymond has proven himself as a potent point getter in this league. He learned a lot playing with Kane this season; I feel confident that he can take the torch from Kane and run with it for the next 15 years if he wants to. I think the future looks good with or without #88.

I listened carefully to everything he said in his conference I didn't take away that he wasn't staying at all,he probably has to Di some more talking with Steve and his agent to see what they can pay him If he likes it here so much why wouldn't he want to stay versus starting on another new team with people he may not get along with I believe hes staying 100% if they can give him a little more money

He is looking for a larger contract (more term) than the Wings will offer. Stevie will only offer two years, while another contender on down side, will offer 3 (aka NYR, Boston, Tampa if Stamkos leaves, Florida) and he knows this.

As a Wings fan, it was a lot of fun to watch Kane this season, and I’m not against him coming back. That said…Raymond and Seider are getting HUGE new contracts, and the team needs to get younger. If they can get what they got from Kane out of Berggrin, Kasper, or Danielson…they probably should go that route. It will save them a ton on the cap and allow them to add at the deadline. Also, a lot of the kids in GR are getting to the point where they’re not waiver exempt anymore, so…they really need to make the team, or Stevie needs to trade them.

Been thinking about this and got some thought. About money: I don't think that will be a deciding factor in where he signs, he made his money. If he is looking to get paid what he's worth I think a contract like 8 or 9 mil a season would be a fair value, I don't think he is looking for that. About the cup: Does he want to win another cup, if he does he might want to be on a contender, but he won't be top six minutes. About Mentoring: Does he want to be a mentor and help young players out, if you then he probably won't be on a contender. Most contenders don't have a lot of youngsters on the roster. About playing time: Does he want to be on the ice a lot, if he signs with a contender he probably won't be on the top 2 lines. About NTC: At this point in his career I think can get demand a full NTC and I think that it will be part of any contract he signs. I am sure there are other factors in where he wants to go. If he is going to go or stay I think he has already made up his mind and I think Yzerman know it as well.

Interesting takes. I actually feel a little more confident after reading that. Would love him to stay. Yzerman mentioned yesterday that he has interest in bringing him back so there's a good start and I'm agreeing with a lot of your takes, this actually looks like Kane's perfect spot to me now.

There is one more thing. Coach. One thing I think would be really frustrating. Not being utilized properly. If there is friction between him and Lalonde then he might be waiting to see what yzerman does this offseason coach wise. Just a theory.

@@redbeard6403 You've at least put some thought into it though and have explained your logic, a lot of which makes sense to me, and your attempts to reason this stuff out are a lot better than some of the other arguments I've seen. It's a lot better than... "Kane's gone man.....one and done.....bye". Which seems to be the standard statement I have seen on YT. On the point of the coach. Yzerman did say he had no issues with the way Lalonde has coached the team and appears happy with his work, so if that is an issue for Kane in any way, that could be one negative. If Lalonde's position is to come under any pressure in any way, it wont be until next season and it would have to be because of an epic collapse or a really bad start or an en masse loss of the room. As far as I can tell, Yzerman thinks he's got his man but who can ever know. Man's a poker player for sure.
@bobbyvv136
@bobbyvv136 Ай бұрын
I’d like to see Kane return only if Yzerman can place a couple/few different pieces to this team so they can win more with Kane. I believe Yzerman put players in place without the exception of Kane coming to Detroit, hence why they had a better record without Kane, even while he was hurt. I believe the Wings had around a .500 with Kane and around a .700 record without Kane.

Kane is just keeping his cards close to his vest. I think he knows his playing days are numbered and is trying to leverage out the best deal he can get by intentional being vague. The smart move was to trade him before the last deadline, now the next best move is to try to sign him for a 1 year deal to make a playoff push or trade at the deadline to a contender. Other than that, I don't think he makes much sense on this roster.

@@nobuddy2012 IIRC other teams offered him more money and more than one year, but he liked what Detroit was offering. I think it had a lot to do with our training staff and the comfort level he had with Yzerman, not to mention that he enjoys playing with DeBrincat. He denied that him signing here had anything to do with DeBrincat, but nobody believes that.

Man it sucks how Lalonde squandered this entire opportunity we just had with Kane. The question now is can Yzerman salvage anything from the absolute carnage our head Coach just caused. When we landed Kane, my prediction was that Raymond's play would transform overnight, and it did. My hope was also that Jonatan Berggren would benefit as well. My thoughts are that dumping Copps contract is our biggest priority by far, and Berggren is our best bargaining chip. Man Lalonde cost us so big

Kane will stay. He and Yzerman had a deal where if the team wasn't making the playoffs, he would move him. On deadline day, things weren't looking too good playoff wise, and Yzerman could have gotten something, and would have gotten something for Kane if he knew he was just going to walk at season's end. I have no doubt the two had a meeting where his future with the team was discussed. Yzerman had a nice trade chip and would have cashed in had Kane wanted a trade or had no desire to re-sign in the offseason. You don't just let a guy like that walk and get nothing in return. Also, Let's not kid ourselves into thinking that snagging that second WC would have tipped the scales in any way in regards to Kane staying or moving on. The team wasn't winning the Cup or anything. Probably not even the first round.
