It’s a shame I missed it. Of course, I was only two years old at the time. Now the Texas World Speedway where the concert was held is being turned into a mixed use retail and residential development called Southern Pointe.

Interviewed Willie on stage in 1997 at his July 4th party in Luckenbach. Willie had just called Merle Haggard, who was in the hospital after a heart attack. Leon played. Ray Price made an appearance. Great jam at the end. Merle,Leon and Ray Price are gone. Seemed like they would live forever .....

I just love Leon's face when Waylon comes on stage to sing. Other than Elvis I think Waylon has the voice most likely to sound like God. Willie's tearing it up on that Martin classical guitar. He has always been such an underrated guitarist. I think this is 1974 and unfortunately I was only four years old at that time. Damn you fate😄

There is a video clip shortly after this point in the concert when a lovely female streaker runs up on stage, gives Doug Kershaw an awkwardly long embrace, and then casually walks off the stage. Waylon’s‘ reaction was classic, “How about that?“

Doug Kersaw can sure play a mean Diggy Diggy Lo Liked Leon pinching Waylon in the belly. You can tell they're all big buddy's on and off the stage. Too bad Billy Joe Shaver wasn't up there with them. It was so good of Elton John to resurrect Leon career and bring him back to the national spotlight. I like Elton's earlier music but got away from his current music later on. But getting Leon back in the spotlight endeared me to him.
