✎ He was born with his twin brother, Wesley, in an abandoned building in a low-income section of Miami. He was subsequently given up for adoption and adopted by Mamie Brown, a 38-year-old single woman who worked as a domestic assistant. He was declared "educably mentally retarded" while in grade school. Despite the self-esteem issues this created, he learned how to reach his full potential with the encouragement of his mother and assistance by a helpful teacher in high school. He first decided to get into public radio and kept returning to the same radio station time and time again looking for a break. Upon his termination from the radio station, he ran for election in the Ohio House of Representatives and won. After leaving the Ohio state legislature, he decided to get into television and eventually ended up on PBS. He also formed Les Brown Enterprises in order to support his newest career as a motivational speaker. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, he also won many local and national awards for excellence and he has an Emmy to his name. In 1993, he began hosting a new talk show, The Les Brown Show, which began airing on September 6, 1993.

I came across to one of your videos by accident- I lost my home, lost my job, my mother and almost lost my son in a shooting accident.( within three years)- Really hard times, stared listening to you all day, over and over again...and really gave me hope, took me out of my depression, stared working on my self, and going back slowly in regaining confidence & look at life in a better way. Mr. Brown you saved my life, I was contemplating bad thoughts- and your encouragement gave me "Life". Thanks for your coaching and helping me. Wherever you are, I don't know if you retired or not, but I still listening to you. It's Possible!!- It's very Possible!!

One can never get too much Les Brown. I love Lesson #2 (Develop Your Gifts). It resonates with me because, like Mr. Brown, I have always enjoyed public speaking and communicating with people. In particular, Lesson #3 (Pursue your Dreams), where he quotes the late Dr. Howard Thurman on the ideal situation for a man or woman to die, literally gives me goosebumps! This is why I have decided to purse my dream of becoming a professional, motivational speaker, trainer, coach and entrepreneur, as Mr. Brown. I'm working on it every day, as a member of Toastmaster (currently competing in Toastmaster's International Speech Contest), and am currently in training with the Washington, DC Chapter of the National Speakers Association's Speaker Academy Program.

I am having trouble finding the video that I commented on before. But, in regards to a Supreme Court justice to feature, perhaps Sonia Sotomayor would be a good choice. She has a very unique childhood story in comparison to other SCOTUS justices but has still succeeded in life. Thanks for your videos

I don't know what to do with my life. I'm 18, smoking and drinking every weekend with friends and going to the gym are the only things in my life atm. I'm watching motivational videos now and I WANT TO WIN IN LIFE, But I just dont know with what... I like working out and I excell in that but I dont know if that is the thing that is going to fill the rest of my life. I like to inspire , help, to lead and always improving myself. Does anybody here have advice (or books) on finding what you love, that thing that you always think about day in day out. I WANT THAT. I feel like im blindfolded and putting my hand in a bin full of pieces of paper with professions, jobs and hobbys in it and im trying to find the golden one.
