Hello! My name is Emily and on my channel I share my late life lesbian journey of getting divorced from a man after being married for over 10 years and coming out as a lesbian at the age of 33.
In this video, I discuss and share the differences and just things I've noticed about lesbian dating vs straight dating since coming out and dating women vs men.
If you want to know more about my story, check out my 3 part series on meeting my husband, getting married, realizing my interest in women, and coming out!

Intresting. My first date was equal. She opened the car door. We shared the bill. I felt so comfortable and not stressed out.

My biggest struggle is the i attract men-mostly. I get asked out all of the time by men. Women-never. I can’t even remember the last time a woman asked me out. I don’t know why? 🤷🏻‍♀️

When you’re a femme lesbian, you HAVE TO make the first move or else other lesbians will have no idea you’re gay. So insert yourself into the gay community and make some moves! Usually you will have eye contact with a woman across the room and feel some tension. That’s when you’ll feel it’s right to walk up to them.

I completely identify with this, I never get asked out on a date by a woman or even get approached by women, men all the time - I was just yesterday but women, no! This is made worse by the fact that I’m only attracted to femme lesbians

Emily, this is so interesting to watch! The "norm" is that a girl waits for the guy to make a move, but frankley I've always been the one making the move when dating guys in hetero settings. From a young age I used to call them at home, asking the guy to the movies, or writing poems and give flowers. But now when dating girls, it's the other way around. I feel like I have much moore to loose now, because my feelings towards females are typically stronger. And because of that, I just secretly hoping to be asked.. I have asked one girl very vaguely, but the respond was non-exitent.. It's wierd that I'm this timid, when I was fearless with all the guys!

I’ve found every guy wants to pay when they take you out. But they asked me out. I find same rules apply with women. If I asked them out then I want to pay. If they asked me then I assume they pay. But that’s only for women I know. Blind dates or set ups I’ve usually spit the bill.

One thing I’ve noticed is that the women I’ve talked to bring up their exes a lot, like right off the bat. And I’m not sure if this is just normal or if it’s a red flag lol. I know when I dated men we would talk about past relationships very minimally, especially in the first weeks of talking to each other. Wondering if you’ve noticed this or have any thoughts ☺️

Oooooh that is interesting! I do feel like women may jump into that quicker than men. Not really sure why. Could be a red flag or just the fact that I think women are maybe just more open about that stuff to some degree. Not to be stereotypical of women but we can be kind of "gossipy" whereas I don't think men are quite like that 🤔🤷🏼‍♀️

Related kinda... another topic maybe? What i find amusing is if I go out with a straight friend she never worried that we could be mistaken as a couple. But if i go out with my gay friend she always makes it known we are just friends. Kinda always thought it would be the other way around. Thats why I love my straight friend. She is the best.

What about the conversation flow, I find it much better with women. Also, I laugh alot more dating women as I am waaaaay less nervous. Dating a woman doesn't feel like a job interview, whereas dating a man often does.

I've dated both men and women, and I agree with you too. But to add to this, lesbian dating can be annoying because what if both chicks want to do the traditional female role? I find this is most often the case, and so relationships never get anywhere, unless I do what I don't particularly like, which is leading in how things go. lol

I’ve been trying to find a similar issue that I’ve gotten into. Well I’ve fallen in love with a lesbian friend. Thing is she is in a current relationship. I mean we clicked super well and we both enjoy each other’s company. My thing of why I’m confused is that I told her I liked her being honest but letting her know I respect her sexuality and relationship. She said she likes me a lot and would date me if she was straight and could see us together. That was after 2 months of knowing her. Now 2 months later we hang out a lot and have deep conversations. I mean she has talked about her ex’s and even her current girlfriend. And although I’m stuck between my feelings and being a good friend i don’t know where I stand with her and if she happens to have similar feelings and is just because of her current relationship or if I’m just blinded by love. I enjoyed your video and would appreciate some sort of advice. I’ve also never dated anyone so this is new to me. I’m also 18 and she is 26. But like I hang out a lot with her and have a key to her place too. I don’t know I’m just confused and don’t know what to do. It also pains me when she talks about the idea of moving away to be with her gf and has even said the possibility of marriage. I support her and want her to be happy but I’m just conflicted and a part of me thinks that their relationship might not be the best out of interests and goals. I’m really lost and I’m sorry for the long message.

Hey Jason.... Thank you for sharing your feelings. I can tell that you're really confused and torn about this situation. I hope that what I say doesn't hurt you in any way but I'm just going to be very honest. From what you describe, it honestly sounds like a pretty straight forward situation. You've fallen for your lesbian friend who's in a relationship. I don't know how else to put this other than to simply say, you've gotten let her go and find a way to move on. What's she's saying about dating you if things were different is like the equivalent of me saying I never would have gotten divorced if my ex husband was a woman. He and I got along. We were good friends and we loved each other, but the fact is, I'm gay and he's a man. There was always going to be something missing. So while your friend may be telling you she'd date you if things were different, I'm pretty sure that's just her way of saying you're a good dude and have good qualities and she'd be interested if you were a woman or if she was straight but neither of those things are the case. She's also in a relationship which seems to be serious if she's discussing moving to her girlfriend. Even if you feel like it may not be the best relationship, that's for her to figure out and decide for herself. I can also tell you that from a lesbians perspective, I really enjoy hanging out with straight men because they're easy and fun to talk to and I enjoy the energy they have. So your friend probably truly does jus enjoy your friendship and feels comfortable with her because in her mind, there's no worry of it going any further. That's how my mindset is when I hang out with guys. I'm sorry that bone of this is probably what you WANT to hear, but I do hope it helps provide some clarity. I obviously don't know your friend but I'm just speaking from experience and what I can gather from what you shared of the situation. I do know that no matter what, one way or another, it will all get figured out. Answers always come.

In your previous videos you talk about having a catholic background and having religious parents, is that right ? Well, I was also raised in a very strict Christian home -with my mom- and a Catholic home- with my dad. I guess I’m wondering if you struggle with being a lesbian and your faith. I do. It’s a hard thing to accept the way you are, who and what you love, and then having faith in a God that supposedly hates you. Let me know what your take is on that? Thanks ! - Rhia

Hey Emily C. Bettis 🥰😍❤❤❤🌹! Great to see you. Thank you so much for this video. I love the topic and content. Next time we should have glass of wine here together, "grab a glass 🍷" whilst you share and do your thing. That would be cool 😎. What do you say my beautiful and lovely friend? Anyway, back to your vid about "Lesbian dating vs Straight dating". I personally think there aren't many differences particularly when it comes to romance and "chivalry", especially nowadays. Traditions are out of the window 🤣🤣! However, some people still follow traditions which is fine by me. I don't agree that there should be any golden rules about roles in a romantic relationships. I am a hopeless romantic at heart 🥰❤. I believe in having fun and playfulness. Traditionally, men and women had completely opposing roles in romantic relationships; some men have always opened car doors for their dates /women; they pulled out a chair for their date /woman; they paid the bills on dates; etc. I think times are changing and people should share these roles, be it it's lesbian dating or straight dating. I think that makes it more fun and playful. I believe in chivalry in a romantic relationship. I also like to have "fun" with it and play my role. If someone wants to be chivalrous, then by all means I think they should go ahead…. besides even in any type of date, woman and woman, man and woman or man and man…..you should just be chivalrous. However, nowadays there are some girls /women who are very feminist, and would rather open a car door for herself without help from her partner…..so people should be just be wary of that. People shouldn't be scared to ask a woman if she would like you to open the car door for her… because honestly if a guy /woman ever asked me, that would be adorable 😍. Kudos to you Emily, for being chivalrous and going after what you want, asking for a second date, etc. I love that ❤. Take care my girl. Have a beautiful Saturday and weekend. See you very soon. Blessings 🥰🙏❤❤🤗🤗🎄🎅🦌🎁❄❄🌹🌹.

So what's wrong if she found out her real taste at "later age"? Only what bothers me is feelings of her ex. Imagine to leave like that. It is not wrong thing to do, but life could sometimes suck. But we have only one life and you have to live it with honesty to your self. I think she is pretty and she shares valuable information without being annoying.
