stan, I went thru most of your lessons. will now go back over them slowly. i would like to commend u as a "true" teacher with heart and selflessness. I have watched hundreds of videos and nobody explains watercolour concepts completely the way u do. especially about amount of water, dryness of brush, thickness of paint, blending, and how to do so. i am a beginner and your lessons are pure gold. thank u.

These are wonderful lessons. I find it difficult to rein students back. They don't want to waste paper & paint on practice sessions. I have often equated the learning of painting to learning the alphabet, proceeding to words, sentences, paragraphs, and finally the novel. Music is similar. One must learn notes before composing the symphony. I like your approach.

Love watching your painting and learning from you. Any suggestions for using the pan watercolors I already have? Other than just buying tubes? Thank you so much for posting all of these lessons!
@Stanleylestermiller
@Stanleylestermiller 2 жыл бұрын
Pan colors are great if you like soft, light, wash based watercolors (I don't). One can't get strong colors, dramatic dark colors with most pans. Pan colors are like playing a small piano key board that only has a limited number of keys...no low keys, no high keys, just the middle range keys. One can still play a nice song but nothing dramatic or powerful.

@Stanleylestermiller

Watercolor can be painted in many styles, from abstract to impressionistic, to very realistic. All styles are good. Some artists and teachers believe that only their approach is the right way to do watercolor, watch out for these teachers.

... If ya know how to draw (7:30) should a beginner attempt with 1 inch brush without a sketch?
@Stanleylestermiller

Depends on what one is going to paint. If just a circle, dark to light, at least 2 inches in diameter, yes, a 1 inch brush might be good.

I do have a question. I live in a country where supplies are sparse and sales are ignorant. how do I differentiate between a synthetic watercolour brush vs acrylic or oil?
@Stanleylestermiller
@Stanleylestermiller 7 жыл бұрын
I use a lot of synthetic watercolor brushes, no worries. The primary difference between a watercolor brush and some acrylic and oil brushes is the softness of the hair. Usually an oil brush is stiffer, more rigid, with thicker hair...this kind of brush doesn't work well with watercolor.

Mr. Miller sir, how do you sir convert the images to black and white? Thank you very much in advance.
@Stanleylestermiller
@Stanleylestermiller 4 жыл бұрын
If you have a smart phone, in your photos you can choose "edit". There you will be able to make your color photo into a black and white. Then you can email it to yourself, or someone who has a printer, and they can print it in black and white. Also, if you have a color print, printed out...and take this color print to a copy place, that makes copies of your image, the copy machine can make a black and white copy from your color photo. There are many other ways to do this...ask a friend, and they will show you how to do this.

Hello sir, im one of ur admirers. Im amazed with the way u paint and teach. Please sir can u tell which paper one should use while painting...the paper i use, its difficult to paint dark strong colours in it and it got messy. I will be waiting for ur comment, sir.
@Stanleylestermiller
@Stanleylestermiller Жыл бұрын
You should be able to get strong darks and colors on any watercolor paper. I used 140 pound Arches cold press, usually. The first reason one cannot get strong darks and strong colors is: too much water in the brush and in the paint. Secondly: the paint isn't freshly squeezed out of a tube. If you use pan paint, or hard paint, very difficult to get strong darks and colors.
