► BABBDI Story Synopsis
BABBDI is a short, first person exploration experience with light narrative and platforming elements.
Visit the town of BABBDI, a forsaken district in the outer ring of the megalopolis. Meet its inhabitants and discover how to escape.
You will find various items unlocking special movement abilities, such as the baseball bat, the pickaxe and the motorcycle.
Secret collectible objects can be found all around town.
There is no combat in BABBDI.

I am extremely amused by the idea of making an object that looks like it would be useful (for example, a gun) into a useless collectible, and making an object that looks like it would be a collectible into a usable object that serves a counterintuitive purpose.

The tool on top of the highest building is overpowered. You can fly up by pressing space.

i played this a good bit myself after the first 10 minutes before coming back to finish the video. this games tight. i got the same chuckle out of the achievement for throwing the ball at the dog.

Walking simulator? More like leafblower flying simulator. I wonder what happens if you use the pickaxe to climb the huge wall and run out onto the water towards the ship? This game is good at making you curious lol

If going after all secret items, you see most of the interesting details of the map you missed in some parts.

I enjoyed this. Posted this in a reply elsewhere, but I appreciate the art style. It's cool-looking in a surreal, brutalist/eastern bloc kind of way, and all the grayness really highlights moments of color/light. I do wonder if one can ecsacp Babbdi in another way, and if there's anything to be seen from leaving the city directly and on foot in any direction (as with leafblower/pickaxe, over the walls). (edit) A quick glance at other videos shows the device you found on the tower to be a powered flight thing, a crude helicopter. Both sets of blades are controllable and looks like it lets you buzz around. Pretty sure there are a bunch of easter eggs.

Loved playing this myself and loved your playthrough! What a cool weird game. Reminded me a bit of Sludge Life, another game in the “run around, find interesting stuff” genre. Walking sims usually have a constrained linear path, which is fine. But there’s something so compelling about the free exploration!

29:40 I think that's gutter oil: kitchen waste converted into cheap oil for cooking street-food that gives all types of cancer at once if consumed. The whole experience with weird items reminds me of SCP Containment Breach, in no small part due to similarly simplistic visuals.

I love weird little games like this, but I feel like most of the good ones are horror games. I would recommend another free short "walking simulator" called How Fish Is Made, but it is one of the few games I've seen with a well-deserved trypophobia warning and I'm not sure you'd have a good time with that.

How do I feel about it? Well, it took me right back to being a foreigner in mainland China…and then 20:52 happened XD Propaganda/government messaging in unexpected places…Maybe it was something about the very grey buildings, the strange sense of spaces that sometimes don’t connect in the way you thought they would and the abrupt conversations? I think I will have to experience it for myself - there’s probably some amazing concept art for this game ^_^

This reminds me of a lot of the hijinks I would get up to in G-Mod years ago. I was enamored with a grapping gun using the crossbow model, that would winch me all over the place soon as I shot surfaces with it. It was awesome.

I sense some hidden meaning in this game. Perhaps Babdi is, like every other word in this game, a poorly written name of a city that actually exists. And because of the many Chinese markings throughout the city I guess it's a Chinese city like "Baoding". Perhaps the creator wanted to leave his hometown and made it into a game 🤔🤔🤔

Aren't walking simulators *usually* exploration games? - This one is particularly good, just for its general weirdness. But I wouldn't say it's not a walking simulator. (In my mind, that isn't a negative label though. I know it's frequently used in a derogatory fashion)

Bro, if you end up in a neighbourhood similar to Babbdi in real world, I recommend not to go investigating random shouting you hear echoing in the streets. Also, it's not post-apocalyptic. It's just eastern Europe.

I actually think it's pretty, if you can get into its eastern bloc/brutalist aesthetic. It's kind of ironically ugly, I guess, like the devs intentionally made this oppressive form - but within and sometimes subverting those limits, made some decent-looking art anyway. And all the grayness really highlights and makes you appreciate moments of color/light.
