The game is quite fun but there's some serious game breaking bugs making certain missions unable to be completed completely at random. Like enemies you need to kill to progress the objective not even spawning and restarting the checkpoint or mission entirely still not making them show up. Hopefully they push out a patch soon.

I haven't played this game, so this isn't me defending it: but in the interest of fairness, the only real qualifier for a piece of media to get a "What Happened" video is to have a rocky production. Granted, that does usually lead to a bad product, but there have been a few What Happened videos on good games and movies, albeit rarely. And given that this is a reboot of a franchise that was believed to be dead and was originally made by a different developer, that alone means it could make a good video no matter how good or bad this game turned out.

@@editmanrgg2844 Honestly, I'm leaning towards the bad side myself, I was just saying that a What Happened video might still be in the cards even if the game had turned out great. But everything I've seen about this game, from the characters to the story, make me believe I will hate it no matter how good the gameplay is. I usually can play a game with subpar stories and characters so long as the gameplay is good, which is why I liked Mass Effect Andromeda despite it's faults, as well as SR3 and 4 despite their departure from the more serious roots of the first two games. But I've hated literally everything I've seen in regards to this reboot. The story and characters all come across as the worst parody of zoomer culture made by boomers that I've ever seen. It really gives of that "Hey there fellow kids" vibe.

I totally remember the Army of Two games! Mostly for the awesome weapon customization options and less so about the morally questionable choices it would make you take. There was something about shooting a tiger at one point? That game was strange.

I've really been enjoying the game but god damn, I experienced less bugs in Cyberpunk 2077 upon release than I have in this game. Still waiting on the "day one" patch that has yet to come out. Going to wait to play it until they resolve some issues because I'm trying to play through the game in co-op with a buddy and it is completely unplayable right now for various reasons.

I heard this game isn't that great but I've got nothing else to play, and the criticism that it's a 360 era open world game doesn't sound like a bad thing to me. I can look past the eye-rolling dialogue and shut my brain off. Can't be any worse than Saints Row 3 and 4. Only thing that bothers me is the bugs, hopefully they're ironed out.

To me it just seems like everyone's made their mind up about this game, and we won't get a fair analysis of it until 2 - 5 years later. Me personally...it looks too much like Saints' Row 3. Not tonally, gameplay-wise. I think it'd be a good thing for the industry if the idea that every game needs to be at the cutting edge ended, that's just getting too expensive, but...man this legit looks like in the years between 3 and the reboot they've had no new ideas gameplay-wise other than the superhero stuff in 4. And as much as I don't want to play into the "GET WOKE GO BROKE" people, the dialogue is cringe. It's not that it's "woke," it's that it sounds like an old man's idea of what young people talk like, an idea that hasn't evolved at all since the early 2010s because Sunset Overdrive also wrote characters like that, that game is eight years old, and the youth that Sunset Overdrive was trying to emulate is in their mid 30s now. It's this overly happy, "just crass enough to be youthful but not enough to be edgy" way that nobody actually talks, and isn't charming in any way that any game staring young people has.

The gameplay in Saints Row 3 was already somewhat lacking. This would've been a more palatable game if the gunplay didn't stick to being awful and if the enemies actually engaged with you during hand-to-hand combat. This isn't an issue with budget and being cutting edge. This is unfortunately an issue with the devs probably thinking that what they have was already good enough. The wrestling moves and scenarios in Saints Row 3 were pretty awesome, it's just that every single mechanic in the game needed some more fine-tuning. The guns never felt good to use, the driving never felt good the use. The combat was awesome, but the enemy engagement was shit. If they built on that instead of bringing back exactly that, it would've been perfect. With Saints Row 3, they kinda just fell one step short of having perfect mechanics for everything. GTA also has shitty mechanics too but the guns were still a step above SR3 and GTA5 driving is arguably the most polished aspect of the entire game, even better than actual driving games.

Sort of...tonally the game is somewhere in between 2 and 3 with a twist of Gen Z dorkiness. As for gameplay, the combat in particular is MUCH faster than SR3. Someone at Volition really likes the new DOOM games.

To hide lazy animation. it started as a trick to make your eyes see movement as normal when 3d animation are not fully animated to save time and money. Ya our eyes already do it but not with 2d based displays for some reason.

From what I can remember, the first game that used it was Crysis, of "Can your PC run Crysis?" fame. Motion blur was added because it tricked your eyes into thinking that the game looked smoother if your PC could only handle 10FPS or whatever. A number of other games at the time copied it "because Crysis did it." Somewhere along the line somebody decided it looked "cinematic" (along with chromatic aberration and hard depth of field), so it became a default. Personally, I hardly ever get motion sick from a video game, but motion blur is almost a sure-fire way to trigger it for me, so I don't like it and wish it would go away, or at least be off by default.

Its far from my favorite game in the series but I had fun with it. Plus it was actually new in a period where modern or semi modern (IMO 1920s or later) sandbox crime games were incredibly rare. This and Mafia III are the only major post 1910 open world crime games I know of on the eighth gen that weren't re-releases of sixth or seventh gen games. (I guess maybe Watch Dogs 2 and Legion but those are more about rebelling against the corrupt system then gang activities) Nina is my third favorite Saint in the franchise (Behind Kenzie and Gat but ahead of Lin. Though Lin might be higher if she had been around longer). Plus I love the setting because its far more familiar to me then either Stillwater or Steelport ever were. (I grew up in small towns, and live in a small city that might as well be a small town but I spent a lot of time visiting family in Arizona or driving that way on Route 66.) and even some of the parts I expected to hate weren't as bad as I thought they would be.

They come across as a worse version of the Deckers from SR3 being lead by a Boss wannabe, like one of the three gangs the real Saints would steam roll upon arriving in a new city. I can't stand ANY of them, especially this pathetic version of the Boss. The fact that the reason they robbed the bank is "I don't do business with morally bankrupt institutions" and not just "I'm a f*cking criminal, gimme your money" is trash. Like this Boss would've been fine just getting a loan if they didn't hate banks.

These games should have a royalty free music channel. Complete with a royalty free DJ and everything. I think lots of youtubers would get a laugh out of that. Game seems fine overall. Certainly not the soul-less abomination some of have been making out to be. The SR games are usually 7 or 8 out of 10 games, but fun overall.

@@Adrian61811 People are tearing the game apart for being a Cyberpunk 2077 level technical disaster more than anything else. Which is always a valid criticism of any game. Gman finished the game and holy shit the bugs he showed off are atrocious. Like borderline unplayable levels of glitches that prevent you from being able to complete several types of missions, objectives not spawning in, dying mid mission for no reason despite having full health, your vehicle despawning while you are driving etc, quite frequently across a full playthrough. I was going to buy the game until I saw the state it was in. One of the buggiest things I've seen in years. The game has some really cool ideas but it's yet another game that has no business being released in the state it's in.

It really feels like Volition cannot win with this series. The game looks fun IMO, but so many different people have their own ideas on what Saints Row should be that they'll never be able to please everyone. I just have a sinking feeling that they might go under and then 5 years from now we'll be getting videos talking about how this game wasn't really all that bad.

Also I highly doubt that volition is the same volition that made the first two games. And I wouldn't be surprised if they hemorrhage staff between three, four and gat out of hell. The series feels like a wondering husk to me and I'm not going to pretend this one will bring me the same Joy the older ones did. If you enjoy it more power to you, but enthusiasm for the series slowly bled to death a long time ago

If Deep Silver and Volition realize this game is glitchy AF and needs more content because feels kinda plain, and the reviews are bad, because of mostly that previously mentioned; i think they can still fix it in some patches, but they need to do it ASAP, this game can still be saved from a disaster

idk, going for a more serious aproach just makes it a GTA copy on my eyes, which was the fun thing that set it apart from it on SR3. But that was a funny ass vid, the creepwalk had me rolling 🤣

Was a little bit worried when the reviews dropped but this looks like really refreshing oldschool open world fun. I think going back to having it more grounded is also a good move, I don't know how you could escalate after "simulated superpowers" or "the literal powers of hell". Back to basics but still keeping some of the ridiculousness seems to be the way to go and I'm all for it.

@@AnarickTheDevil K! It isn't a flop sales wise so far, only reviews wise and even then it isn't bad. Saints row reddit has been loving the game as well as the discord so fans of the series are enjoying it. Idk seems like it's all hyperbole at this point.
