Leave all the Z71 stuff. Color matched bumpers, unique sidesteps, unique roof rack. Keep it all. Wish you’d kept the wheels too. But I get it. They need spacers to sit right. But keys up front, spaced out back, 33’s and call it a day. 295/70/17’s clear on my Silverado with similar lift, Tahoe is lighter so you should be good. I know you’re running 18’s, but I know there’s an equivalent. Anyway. I like what you’ve done so far. Keep up the good work.

I love the factory plus look you have going on with it now. A level would be perfect. As for the wheels, I'd plastdip them first just to get a feel for it before going full powdercoat. Shocks definitely look into the Bilstein 5100s.

I know you already had yours rebuilt, but a gauge cluster from a Yukon, has a built in trans temp gauge, and is plug and play. You’d just need to have the mileage programmed. I bought one for my Tahoe, plugged it in, And the gauge worked. I just need to get it programmed, so I can install it for good.
@jeremycribb4696

That’s what I would have done, but I think the cluster with the transmission temperature gauge is standard on the 2500HD. I looked at one for sale once and it had one, but I’m not sure what other models had them.

I think after the leveling kit you will be more than happy with your tire size looking forward to seeing a leveling kit install and what it’s going to look like with the wheel setup I’m buying the rough country leveling kit and going with a 275/70r18 33x11 and yeah I agree don’t paint the wheels lol

I put a Gibson exhaust on my brothers Tahoe. He and I had the same criteria you have. Not overly loud, NO DRONING(!), uses factory location and hangers! The Gibson was perfect! Research it, it was made to flow better, sound a little better, but annoying, and they are known for it! Trust me, you’re be super happy with it!

Solution finish for the black plastics. I own a avalanche and it is the ONLY thing that keeps the plastic black. In the detailing world it is nicknamed black gold because it works so well. Also I put "Rancho" (advanced auto is where I got them) shocks on the avalanche and the ride was better than new!

You mentioned the sub, I went to the scrap yard and found a Tahoe with a factory sub and got the sub box and the cover. Since I also have an aftermarket stereo I just put a mono sub under the rear seat and hooked up the single sub. I think I put an 8” Pyle 400 watt sub in and it helped distribute the bass from the Bose factory system SO much better. I know I’m late on this vid but still. Lol

So cool and good useful information, I also picked up a High Mileage truck. 2003 Suburban LT 4X4 with Auto ride - 295K miles with an engine swap with 110K miles and a New transmission - the previous owner had two rebuilt transmissions put in and it kept having problems, so the shop installed a brand new unit. the gauge cluster was done and a new fuel pump installed. He got tired of messing with the bugs in the truck... normal issues. I picked it up for $1000.00 - I Love This Thing... Pm me if you get a chance, but you have a Fan in North Carolina.

LOL at 9:16! Keep it stock! The HD hood is a great mod. I have my 3rd row seat out in my 06 Yukon. I don't think you need to waist $$ on a leveling kit! I turned my torsion bars up on the stock keys to where I have .5" of rake. My screw are not maxed out and my CV angles are slightly angled down. Ride is nearly the same and my upper control arm does not hit the bump stop. I put the bilstein shocks on mine and the ride is improved. I have the 5.3 with 4.10 rear end and I put LT 275 70 17 on the stock rims. I noticed it was a bit sluggish off the line after that so I got a custom tune and it is a night and day difference as it will easily scratch in second as I take a turn. I plan on putting 285 70 17 after the 275 wear out.

The bottom marker lights typically have a vent hole right between the parking light and signal towards the bottom. When driving, they'll fill up with water fast. I have problems with my stock 2000 Silverado headlights doing the same thing.

If I had this Tahoe I wouldn’t put the 3rd row in either lol more space and less weight! I like the OEM Plus look you’re going for. All the lifted stuff and slammed stuff has been done a million times over. Some people just like seeing a clean and well put together vehicle like this one. You changed what was needed and didn’t go overboard. Leave the rims silver they look great! Oh and also too much spinning around haha 😂
@ernestpaul2484

If you are going to be towing your car with this then you really might want to look at keeping the "factory rake" with the leveling kit. I am going with the 2" torsion keys in front and a 1 alloy coil spring puck/spacer in the rear. This prevents the truck from squatting under weight/load of the trailer. I am also going with the 285/75r16 Cooper Discoverer S/T Maxx tires on 16x8 Cragar Soft 8's on my 03' Z71 Tahoe. Oh yeah, until you get a "dedicated tow vehicle" ie a dually or a 2500HD Crew Cab, I wouldn't go hog wild on performance mods not related to getting the car to the track and back home. Nothing will ruin your day or week when you have your tow vehicle down because you wanted to run it at the track too.
@lsxmatt
@lsxmatt 5 жыл бұрын
Oh yea this won’t be at the track unless i can go with my buddy and his trailer. That would suck bigtime if i towed the Camaro there, raced both, then the Tahoe blew up...
@ernestpaul2484
@ernestpaul2484 5 жыл бұрын
@@lsxmatt Yeah that was what I was getting at. One more thing, those that say slam it and dub it, great if that is what floats their boat. But I don't think you had that in mind when you bought the truck. I am more on the practical, reliable, purpose use kind of train. You have two cars that are the perfect canvases to do the race mod/street scene mods to. With those and a reliable truck to do multitasks when called upon without a problem, that is the way I'd go. Of course I'm 61 and most of my "hey hold my beer" days are passed, but I still enjoy "tinkering" with mechanical things when I'm able to. Keep up the work, you are among the few in your age bracket, relatively speaking, that know how to actually turn a wrench. Well shit, one of the few that know what a wrench is and what it is used for. Later, Paul.

I have a black 2003 tahoe and I have always wanted to do stuff to my car but I have never really known what to do exactly and seeing your videos has helped me a lot. I love what you have done and have been doing with your tahoe, it makes me want to drop mine off with you for a while. I do have a suggestion though, I was annoyed with my headlights when I turn on the brights and the lows would turn off, so I bought a ‘fleece all lights on’ mod that you put in your fuse box and it makes it to where your highs, lows, and fog lights stay on when you turn your brights on.

I think you're going the perfect direction. No it doesn't need a 6 inch lift. And no, it shouldn't be slammed. Leveled will be more than enough. Rough country recommends 285/65/18s with those wheels and a level kit, so spot on. If you get the level kit from them, they sell it with shocks. Now that you have quick jacks, do some maintenance videos; fuel filter, front/rear diff, trans, etc.

I think it looks great. I always thought these trucks had a weird color balance. The back of the truck has lots of black pieces (bumper pad, tint, panels, roof rack, etc.) And the front and sides had very little black. It's like 2 vehicles, squeezed together. My only suggestion besides interior fixes is to make a few (very subtle) black accents on the sides and front to balance it out. Maybe door handles or grill. Otherwise the truck looks awesome! Keep up the good work.

And I suspect since it’s a z71 it probably came or possibly still has rancho shocks, so a set of bilsteins would def improve ride quality... at least in a non off road situation. Can’t beat a set of bilsteins in my book.

A lot on your plate to do on all 3 vehicles. I really like the idea of an Escalade (Caddy) back end treatment on the Tahoe. Get that Camaro more race only prepped and tow it around behind the Tahoe. One last note, get the interiors of your daily drivers all spiffy, gotta impress your date! Tahoe first and eventually the Firebird.

Escalade or Denali air shocks can be made to work with an air compressor. let some air out and ride a little lower, or pump it up to tow. Not to mention the nice ride of the air shocks. Air suspension on these Denali trucks is pretty plush. Arnott industries has kits at local auto stores but the cheapest ive found them (for my 08 Denali XL) has been on Amazon. maybe even do some junk yard searches. Lot of people have issues with the system that's incorporated into the trucks but just using a small portable cigarette lighter air pump should be pretty problem free. Love the videos!

If you’re going to change the struts install some Bilstein 5100’s. I did to my Yukon and it was a night and day difference. I also did eibach swaybars front and rear later on and that drastically changed the way the truck handled. Also for a budget front BBK you can install 07+ rotors, calipers and pads and you’ll have significantly more breaking power.
@ernestpaul2484
@ernestpaul2484 5 жыл бұрын
It doesn't have struts, it has shock absorbers. I have Skyjacker Nitro gas shocks all the way around on my 03' Z71 along with new rear coil springs with new isolators and all polyurethane bushings for the swaybars and endlinks. Tires are Goodyear DuraTracks, 265/75r16s and it handles great for a large SUV.

Headliner is not that bad at all. Has to go out and back in from the hatch, and I did it solo with no fuss. I also have the Escalade vents and rear glass/3rd break light swap, so of course I think they look better. I'm at stock height with 22's, as 24's are too big/tires too thin. I think a 1"/3" drop would look best, but it's not worth it with potholes and the snow so if I won't do it, I can't suggest it to you. I really just want to see power/performance upgrade results aside from exhaust. Especially stuff that benefits the low end.
