In this video we take a look at a Nintendo 64 Fire Orange I purchased that had no sound output. After diagnosis it appeared one of the capacitors needed replacing.

dang that is probably my problem as I replaced my cables and still no audio but I don't have all the tools to do that.

Ever have an 64 console lose it's bass frequencies, where they kick in once in a while and then kick out, even though the rest of the sound is perfectly fine, I only notice it when I'm playing SF Rush n64, could it be a cart issue or is it the console? Thanks in advance even if you don't have an answer, the video was still informative and helpful in a broader sense.

That is an interesting one, I think capacitors could be at fault for this issue but it may be a case of replacing them to see.

I don't have audio loss but it is sounding fuzzier than it used to, any idea what the problem is?

Hey man i really need some help with one of my systems. I have a NS1 system and it gets quite a bit of audio interference it's especially noticable in ocarina of time. I can hear lots of electronic noise in the background and every time i switch menus it changes to different sounds. At 1st i thought it was an output cap on the power supply but i replaced that and it's still doing it. How can I reach you to show you?

Actually it might be the ns2 system I'll double check and make sure

It may be worthwhile replacing all the caps on the console to be sure. Are you using the original AV cable? The other thing that comes to mind is trying a different AV cable, as it may have some interference in the insulation.

@@KiloooNL I've tried every possible combination of original / after market cable with different games I've tried different TVs and all. It's the NS2 that's having the audio interference. I think I'll just go online and order all the caps for it. Another thing now too.. the NS1 system i have has started freezing with any games that utilize hi-res mode. Perfect dark, Turok 2 they all freeze at random intervals and i get some artifacts on screen when they freeze. Some horizontal lines. Any ideas on that? I've tried the same expansion pak on both consoles and it works perfectly on the ns2. If i disable hi-res the games run fine with no crashing.

Your best bet is to find a local electronics repair shop. A guitar repair center, tv repair center, local computer repair shop, cell phone repair shop. These surface mount caps are actually fairly easy to replace and referencing a video like this one, anyone who is decent with a soldering iron could replace every cap on the board and the through hole caps in the power supply (need a 4.5 MM game bit to open it) in a matter of an hour to an hour and a half. The whole job with cost of parts would be under $100. Lots of folks might say, well just buy another n64.... but... that replacement N64 is likely going to have really old caps in it as well. Might as well just get it done and be assured your N64 should have another 20-30 years of worry free operation. If not longer.
