One Piece is very long and while for people trying to get into it it might seem like a negative thing, once you do get into it its a positive and it even feels to short once you get to the week to week reading. 0:30 technically its targeted demographic is 14 year old boys, and author chose Luffys power because he wanted him to be goofy, but in later arcs where the world building goes from 0 to 100 we do get into some really dark things, some are hinted at some are shown directly. 1:25 One thing to keep in mind is that in this manga some things take a while to get answers to, like you can see a character show up do some stuff for him to be never seen again until 350 chapters later (around 8 years of publishing) to be explained. If we talk about Luffys family in particular I can't say much only that there will be more backstory for him to come (obviously) 2:00 Yes, just wait, most of things will be explained, just... some questions takes A LOT longer to get answers than the others. To end it, I 100% support not rushing, the story is not going anywhere. Take your time and enjoy it.

Some fun info about the 4kids dub, it was mostly Toei's fault. At the first opportunity Toei shoved One Piece into a localizer's hands because they wanted it in every international market possible as fast as possible because in Japan it was Hot Cakes. 4kids had approached for other, actually more kid oriented shows to dub but as part of the package got One Piece. They wanted their channel to cater to 6-12 year olds so the serious violence and darker parts of One Piece put them in a tough spot. But, every single edit or change they made to my knowledge got okay'd by Toei. At the time they just didn't care, whatever it took to air it in the States. I can never forgive the 4kids dub for making people think David Moo is a bad actor because of how terrible the writing and directing is. This is some very fun editing! Look forward to catching up and then seeing these as they release!
