Whether or not you listen to someone shouldn't depend on how old they are, what they look like or how they sound like. You should listen to someone based on what they're saying. My dad gets offended when I try to give him advice or even slightly disagree with what he says. He always says that "You're a kid. Why should I listen to you?" Hearing what people have to say won't hurt you...
@ADevilsHollywood
@ADevilsHollywood 3 күн бұрын
My dad said this to me too when I was a kid. It led to a really deep conflict within myself as an adult, feeling like what I had to say didn't matter but simultaneously desperately wanting to be listened to and doing anything to make my voice heard.

i was brought up basically being told to not talk, that my opinion doesnt matter. i had my voice taken away from childhood, i wasnt even allowed to be a single digit aged kid and make any noise for fear of being punished. that stayed with me through my high school years where i actually failed class assignments that required debating or arguing different points because i didnt do them. i never spoke out on my opinion. i am grown now (35) and as much as ive asserted myself and tried to take back my voice as an adult now people dont listen to me. its not that i FEEL that people arent listening, its literally that people do not hear me or listen to me speak. i mean it doesnt matter what the question is if i give an answer it is overlooked and the question is asked to someone else and their answer might as well be written in stone even if mine was the exact same or the complete opposite. it has really taken a toll on me to not feel but know that i waste my breath every time i speak because nobody is listening to me. and then people have the nerve to ask me what is wrong with me when i get angry because of it. i am not exaggerating when i say that literally every time i open my mouth nobody listens to what i am saying. whether its answering a question, solving a problem, giving advice, whatever the case is i am not listened to. there is a saying about something going in one ear and out the other, but for me all i see is it never going in the first ear. its frustrating because no one is listening to me, its frustrating because i will say the correct answer or give the solution to a problem for no one to listen and i have to watch them do the wrong thing anyway even after i said the correct thing. i make a joke about always being right. i say stuff like, "im not saying i know everything about everything, but i do know something about just about everything." it truely hurts me because im a good listener. i make it a point to stop what im doing in order to hear what someone has to say, but i never get that in return. instead people keep their eyes in their phone. i start off saying something then i purposely start saying gibberish and nonsense because im not being heard and a lot of times i will start to say something, realize im not being heard, then just stop mid sentence/word and just get up and walk away. i have enough mental issues as it is to have to endure this as well. im talking about even my own mother and stepdad are doing this to me. the person that you should never have neglect issues from is almost the main one doing it.

Someone got mad at me earlier today because I disagreed with them out loud when they told me that as I got older I was going to have all kind of health issues with my back. Because this woman is dealing with all kind of health problems, she spoke that over me and I, I told her that that was not going to happen to me and that I wasn’t going to agree with what she said. Anyway, after some back-and-forth and my trying to explain where I was coming from, in a kind but firm way, she looked at me and said well you keep doing that and you won’t have very many friends. She said it was ok to disagree, but do it to myself. So it’s OK for her to speak crap over me, but if I say out loud that I’m not going to agree with that then that’s not right?! I’d rather have quality friends over quantity any day of the week. I’ve decided she’s a toxic individual and I want nothing else to do with her.

valuing yourself is bs. Value being productive, learning, interacting etc. Sometimes you feel good about it, and sometimes not, don’t let your emotions and feelings about yourself rule your life. Beethoven created the most beautiful intense music while often feeling both good and depressed about himself. This is the Problem with the self esteem movement in schools…teenagers often have ups and downs…if you have to feel good about yourself always, it teaches to not achieve or do unless you feel good. This is why in schools today everyone gets a trophy 🏆 regardless of whether the win or loose in a sports event.

My extended family doesn't listen to me. I feel disrespected. Recently when 5 of my extended family were at the table, I was interrupted several times. I was overpowered in voice tone and volume by all of them. I stopped talking, walked away and sat at the kitchen island. No one even noticed. I'm tired of being the childhood scapegoat all grown up and not respected. I don't know what to do. Not talking or shutting up doesn't feel like the answer. Any advice is appreciated.

WTAF! I'm listening to this and it's like I'm jumping from a "situation" to another with comparisons that had nothing to do with what was said 30 sec ago. Edit: didn't realize it was a bunch of sound bites.

😅 If I only payed attention to those that listened I wouldn't be very attentive. It's maddening. People rarely listen anymore! The world needs truth for sure and people want to have their "realities" validated instead. Example: Recently I brought in parts to a business that I needed and specifically stated that i needed identical items and the quantities. What does the person do? He brings back a combination items different than what I'd asked for. So we have to go through the process of gathering what was asked for in the first place. I should've said, Is that what i asked for? There's so many things. I don't know where people's minds are at. It seems that our ability to concentrate is evaporating and that people are hell bent on doing things with whatever notions they get conjured up in their heads. If the prescription bottle says once a day of a particular dosage, you don't take it every other day with half the amount or, three times a day with a higher dose. Just like you don't put on any tire you want on your vehicle. It has to match the specificans for it or, within the parameters.

I'm having this problem with my wife right now. I want to do what's best for my children and family and not have them eat ultra processed foods. All these chemicals and and try to live more naturally and she is pushing back on it says I'm being a conspiracy theorist. Says that processed foods are just too convenient to give up - it's been such a struggle.

@@IndigoDaffodil111 I'm willing to bet that was a result of false prophets and doctrines. I left the church a long time ago for the same reason. But came back after realizing most "Christians" have a strong tendency to speak man made doctrines and denominations and not the actual word of God which unfortunately drives followers away.. 1 of the 7 things in the bible that angers God actually. If you want the truth go straight to the book. It's all there. Have a bless day, Bella

@PaperRaines
@PaperRaines 2 жыл бұрын
Shut her down and/or cut her off. She's a person like anyone else, like you. You and her are equal human beings, the only reason she's hurting you and stopping you is because you're allowing her to. Doesn't mean you stop loving her or she'll stop loving you Also, I don't know you, but you can also ask yourself if you're letting her behave that way because you prefer it. As long as she's behaving the way she is, you have a built in excuse for anything and everything. Maybe it's safer being beneath your mother than standing on your own. Something to think about
