Welcome to the Letterman KZfaq Channel, home to all your favorite clips from Late Night and Late Show - as well as conversations with the writers, producers and performers who helped make it all happen. The language may strike you as quaint & flowery, the clothing comically lacey & ornate - but that’s how things were back in this colorful and now bygone era.

At 10:28 you hear him say "it wasn't me" in reference to making the basketball shot, at the time of viewing the audience wouldn't have known what he meant by that, now the story about hearing his recently deceased brothers voice in his head gives it a poignant context.

Finally! Pat is such a treat, and we could not be happier he’s being highlighted in this forum. Also…that voice. Wouldn’t it be nice to have him read a story to you as you fell asleep?

That voice! Always low-key friendly when I chatted with him on the street. I caught up with him once, looking straight ahead, never at him, matching his stride, and said, "Pat Farmer, in your wildest moments would you ever believe what you've done?" "Never." We both laughed, and I slipped away.

@@irenehoffman2190 Very cool NYC moment. A nice way to acknowledge celebrities without bothering them. Another is eye contact, head nod, then ignore them completely. 🗽 BTW how great that on Dave's show, the prop guy became a celebrity. Be well, stay awesome. 🌆

Pat, I think my favorite Late Night sketch ever was you returning a portable radio in an undercover consumer exposé story about defective merchandise. You took it back to a street storefront and the clerk says something like 'well, there's no batteries in it, ya numbskull'. Pat goes 'ohhhhh'.

When Pat and his crew threw things off the roof of the Ed Sullivan theatre...it was a lot of little boy's fantasies. When he and Kenny read Oprah's transcripts, Kenny, with that ever present cigarette at the corner of his mouth, responding-" I hear ya, girlfriend. " Great, classic stuff.

I would love to have seen the It Sort Of Sounds Like A Joke bit with Pat and another stagehand making a joke about the then-new King Kong movie which got into a silly joke about a hairy ape and the punch line was, "If I want to see a hairy ape, I'll go look at your wife." It then degenerated into name calling and the two stagehands wrestling each other on stage. Then, the announcer (which wasn't Alan Kalter) said, "It Sort Of Sounds Like A Joke has been brought to you by Havoline. Be there!" THAT was hysterical!

Pat, you look FANTASTIC. Thanks for these (100% of which I actually recall) and for your hours of laughs. You and Kenny (RIP) always were literal showstoppers. And thanks for today's goosebumps. I did not know the backstory of the basketball drop...and your sotto voce 'it wasn't me' is so poignant knowing now what I and we all know. You're a class act and the show would not have been complete without you. Ditto for the entire 'cast' of course. Special memories.
