Bought this from an guy whose dad use to do logging out in Washington state and now to see if it can be saved or not.

That lewis winch is an awesome find,those are good for pulling firewood logs around in tight places where it's easier to cut for loading ,and alot of other uses as well,,,,,,,,another great video,always love watching,the vintage chainsaws and this old winch is great eye candy ,bolt it on a vintage saw and you have a nice shelf queen if nothing else

I want to get it working for at least show purposes so now to figure out a way to fix the shaft that doesn't involve spending $109 for a new shaft.

Yeah, working is definitely a must,,,but spending 109.00 on it isn't too bad,,a good lewis winch is well worth spending a few bucks on, a good well made winch can be relatively expensive to buy new or used in good working condition

I didn't know these existed. That cable tangle is like a bad fishing reel backlash.

It was a bad birds nest as they call it. You can still buy these new. I plan to put this on a gear drive I have.

I wonder do you have a place by you that sells metal left over like ASAP, you might be able to find that exact size cold rolled. Will be interesting to see when you get it going because I know you won’t give up easily

I wonder if its harden steel or cold rolled. I need to measure the shaft diameter and figure out how I can make spots for C clips.

I have one on a Husqvarna 365 powerhead. I'd open it up and send you a couple of photos installed on the Husky, but you'll have it figured out before then, I reckon. That one's a bit of a mess.

New videos are every Friday at 8am. I hope within the next couple weeks to figure out a cheaper solution to fixing this than spending $109 for a steel shaft.
