CLIP DESCRIPTION:
With Mrs. Cole (Jennifer Tilly) on the witness stand, Fletcher (Jim Carrey) proves that her prenuptial agreement was invalid.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
An attorney who tells the truth for 24 hours straight? This has got to be the movies! Fletcher Reede (Jim Carrey) is a lawyer obsessed with his career, and he's devoted his life to bending the truth to his advantage. This habit has broken up his marriage to Audrey (Maura Tierney) and isn't doing much good for his relationship with his young son Max (Justin Cooper). Fletcher repeatedly promised Max that he'll be there for Max's eighth birthday party, but when an important assignment comes up at work, Fletcher calls Audrey and makes an excuse so flimsy that even Max can see through it. When it comes time to blow out the candles on his cake, Max makes a wish: that his Dad could go just one day without telling a lie. Suddenly, Max finds himself physically incapable of saying anything that isn't true -- which, given the divorce settlement case he's just been handed, is going to make his next day in court very interesting indeed. While designed to show off a warmer and more likable side of Jim Carrey's personality, Liar Liar still revels in the broad physical comedy that made Carrey a star in Ace Ventura, Pet Detective -- which makes sense, since both were directed by Tom Shadyac. Both Carrey's fans and foes will get a chuckle out of Swoosie Kurtz's tongue-in-cheek insult to the film's star in the blooper reel that runs under the final credits.

I liked that they portrayed the husband as a seemingly decent guy who genuinely loved his kids. It would've been so easy to make him a stereotypical rich jerk, but then it wouldn't have been such a wake-up call for Fletcher after he (inadvertently) took the man's kids away from him. He, a lousy father, spent the whole day in fear of losing his own son, and causing his worst fear to happen to a better father was the last straw for him.

I met Jennifer Tilly and one of the questions I asked was what was it like to work with Jim Carrey. She said his energy was amazing, she went to work knowing she was going to be laughing through the majority of it because of him. She said he has a talent that only comes around once in a generation when it comes to comedy and its a talent that can never be taught, you have to be born with it and he definitely was born with a comedic talent like no other.

Both must be 18 at the time they begin living together and live in the same residence for an extended period of time before they are by law considered to be married. Luis Eduardo It’s from the post-credit blooper run. Carrey was running lines that never made the movie, but the actress slipped in a dig at Carrey himself. She the says, “They put me up to it!” (pointing to the film crew). It’s just a cool little behind-the-scenes moment.

Jason Bernard, the actor who played Judge Stevens is so good in this role, especially when he's able to address all 3 of them with the "QUIET! Overruled! Weight?' line. Really unfortunate that this was his last role before passing away. RIP. GREAT GREAT MOVIE!

To be fair, Fletcher recognises it’s his fault for “corrupting” her with his lies, as earlier in the film it is him who convinces her to take the case as far as they do (half the money) as she wants a settlement at first. +Rikard Nilsson Each state would likely have it's own unique case law, but the critical issue is that the pre-nuptial agreement was void. Even if the marriage contract at the time was also void because she was a minor without parental consent, we also know that she was born in 1965, hence this very long cohabitation would have been codified as a contractual common law marriage, hence, the state law of equal property would then seem to apply. Obviously, this is a slapstick comedy, so the whole thing is just a discussion for the hell of it. I absolutely love this movie...it is hilarious on so many levels!

In general, contracts entered into by minors are voidable, which is not the same thing as automatically being void. The option to ratify or void a voidable contract is at the option of the minor upon reaching the age of majority. This is true for both the marriage contract and the prenup, so Kurla's point about the marriage being ratified is correct, but the assertion that the prenup is automatically void is wrong. Ratification applies to both contracts. By not asking the court to void the prenup within a reasonable time after turning 18, she also ratified the prenup agreement.
