From the foundations of ahlul sunnah is that we don't affirm or negate for anyone, hellfire or paradise, except for those whom Allah and his messenger have explicitly affirmed or negated it for. The proof for this is in the statement of the prophet when a mother's son died in a war with the prophet. She said "my son has died a martyr" the prophet replied that he is the prophet of Allah and he doesn't know what will come of him, so how would she know what condition her son died in. Someone can live a life of disbelief until just before death and become Muslim. Likewise a Muslim can live a life as a Muslim and die upon kufr So we can't say someone will be in the hellfire forever because they opposed Islam. Yes, we make Dua that Allah guides the people, but we don't know the end result of these people, the true end result.
