There are a lot of things why people want to study a career as a Scientist Lab Technician, like health issues for example, others can jump to Anesthesiologist schools, remember to be an Anesthesiologist Assistant people don't need to be a nurse, 2 years of a community college degree with a background in Biology, Chemistry or Health Science careers can take you to that career as an Anesthesiologist, keep doing the hard work, that's the only thing for you now, after 2 years you are done and ready to start in the medical field, congratulations

@@RosaPerez I am on that path, switching from careers is not easy, but if other people did it and working at the same time, then, I can do it too. Health career fields are wonderful because help people, a lot of time and hard working professionals are in this field, I like that, best !

Yes I believe anything is possible if you work for it. Health care is a great career path I agree. I love that you can help people.

Wow, congratulations Rosa!!🎉🎉🎉❤ You are going to be an awesome PA. You had one of the first MLS videos on youtube which was really helpful and inspiring to me. Per reddit, a lot of MLS seem to go towards PA school, nursing, or exit healthcare entirely. Currently I'm still in school split. Mainly between nursing vs MLS.

Thank you so much!! I really appreciate the support! :) Wow thats awesome I do hope my videos have been helpful in deciding what kind of career you would like in the future. That sounds right I feel like many MLS do follow those routes after they have worked in the field. Is there one that you are leaning more towards at this time? I wish you the best of luck in your educational and career decision :)

Congratulations Rosa! I been subscribed to your channel since I started my MLS program. I just recently graduated with my bachelors degree in May. I am also interested in PA school. I look forward to watching your future videos on your journey from MLS to PA.

Thank you so much I appreciate it! :) What kind of lab do you work in and what department are you in? I'm excited you were able to complete the program! Have you taken the ASCP BOC exam yet? MLS to PA is a great career change as much of the information we learned in the laboratory will be relevant to the role a PA has! I'm excited to make more videos regarding my journey and I know you will do great in your journey once you apply to PA school. Thank you for subscribing to my channel and for all your support!😊

There’s nothing wrong with changing careers. I have a bachelors in Nursing and bedside is something I didn’t want to do for years . I’m thinking about doing case management but right now I’m taking my time to really think about what I would like to transition to . I can’t wait to watch your journey. And plus we’re young so there’s nothing wrong with what you’re doing.

Hi Emily, Totally understand where you are coming from. Case management makes good money and your degree is useful in many different areas. I hope you find a job that suits you more than bedside nursing. You're right we are very young and have time to find what suits us most. Best of luck!

Congratulations Rosa! I was also thinking of applying to PA school in Oregon (OHSU) and worked for a year as a clinical research coordinator there with cancer patients. This was right when Covid hit though and I ended up going another path, as a research associate. Wishing you the best of luck in school! 🙂

Thank you Jose! That's awesome I will actually make a video discussing the schools I applied to. OHSU has a great PA program for sure! Are you happy working as a research associate and are you possibly still considering PA school? Why thank you I appreciate your support! :)

How was it working as a clinical research associate? I was interested in those types of roles but the commute was a little too far for me. Were you able to handle your emotions while working with cancer patients?

@@RosaPerez Hi Rosa, I am still thinking of possibly applying to PA school but not totally sure. I am learning a ton of new skills in my current position and I usually don’t like to leave a job when there is still this much room for learning. I have been here just over a year and who knows…maybe in a year from now I will be ready to try something else. The Clinical position was so tough for me because I was on the phase 1 clinical trials unit, so our patients basically had no better options and it was super sad for me to see. It was definitely taking a toll emotionally. I am excited for your next videos about where you decided to go for PA school! (:
@RosaPerez

If you think you are going to regret not going to PA school you should definitely apply. Life is extremely short to not do what will make you happy. That is true you may love the job or you may want to try something different. That is very sad but its nice that you were able to be there for the patients. Thank you! I will be posting more soon :) Best of luck to you!
@joseceja8783
@joseceja8783 10 ай бұрын
Agreed, life is definitely way too short. Yeah I need to consider my next move carefully soon, but if I apply I will probably start with pacific university and OHSU, and then pick a few schools out of state. Keep up the great work Rosa! And keep us posted on how PA school is going! 🙂

I am an MLS(ASCP) professional, the ASCP test is by far one of the toughest healthcare test to pass. PA school will be great for you especially because you have a strong background knowledge in lab.
@RosaPerez

I agree it is a very tough exam. I found studying for the exams in undergrad in my MLS major more difficult than the exams I took in PA school. Thank you! Lab knowledge does help quite a bit!

I am glad I found someone we are on the same path ,I am MLT currently working on my MLS and I want to apply for PA after graduation. Did you have to do other prerequisites for your admission? if yes what extra classes did you take? what resources did you use for GRE? Thank you
@RosaPerez
@RosaPerez 7 ай бұрын
That is very exciting! For my school I did not have to take any extra pre-requisites but I did decide to take a few extra classes and continued to increase my patient care experience since I did not have much from working in the lab. I would suggest taking classes such as immunology, nutrition, psychology, just to name a few. For the GRE I used Magoosh but my school did not require the GRE for admission. I say make sure to focus on getting good patient care experience and keep your GPA above a 3.5 to be considered competitive for PA school! Best of luck on your journey!
