I was so happy to see this wrap up, I’d been missing your bookish content a lot! Sounds like your life has been crazy busy though and I hope you get caught up and used to your new normal. I feel SO in the minority that I also really disliked Godkiller and felt that it took me AGES to read for such a short book.

No need to apologise or feel bad for taking a break, whether it was intentional or not! You owe us nothing ;))) Congrast on the new job, hope you are settling in well 🥰 Love seeing you back here though, always enjoy your (slightly brutal) takes on books hahah. I am so nervous for The Vanished Birds now lol. And I am definitely skipping Shark Heart, that sounds like a bunch of missed potential. Eager to eventually hear your thoughts on Light Bringer, it's one of my faves of the year so far!! Happy reading ;)

I am still alive! Right now I am reading Stone of Farewell, which is excellent; as was The Dragonbone Chair, which I read right before. Before that I read and d.n.fed a book, because it sucked real hard. I have also read Seveneves, which was a great read for me.

I felt similarly about Shark Heart and am reconsidering who I listen to for book recs in the future 😢 I’ve heard several reviewers say they thought Godkillers was bad so I removed it from my TBR despite the stunning cover 🤦🏻‍♀️

Good to see you back and we don't mind the absence, you're allowed to have a life lol, but, I do hear tell that at one point you were in search of good "dark academia", well Blood over Bright Haven by M.L. Wang might be your cup of tea, not sure if you'll get to it with the new gig and all, but you put me on to The First Law and I loved it, so I figured I'd return the favor. ✌🏿

Yes! Hornblower is fantastic. The adaptation sticks pretty close to the source material, the one thing the source material does better is giving side characters more spotlight (Stiles & Mathews) Lieutenant Hornblower is my favourite. Hope you and the other participants continue to enjoy.

I liked Antimatter Blue about the same as The Only One Left so not sure I can do opposites with your reviews :p They both fall into the same camp for me. They're not amazing literature, but they're good times and I was entertained. I liked the plot structure of Mickey 7 more, which is why I think it's more satisfying than the sequel. I was probably one of the ones that said it wasn't as good, and I stand by that, but I still liked it. Just not sure if the series has legs. I'd check out the third book if there is one, but that will be the make or break if I continue. You're also the first person that I've seen that hated Godkiller. I had no interest in the book, but your review cements my decision lol. Also, I've been meaning to pick up Fall of Hyperion in the near future, but I hope I like it more than you.

@@LienesLibrary hahahaha, Absolutely!! I am too plot-driven for Abercrombie. I tortured myself through 2.5 First Law books, reading the first 33% of each book no fewer than 3x each, because I was certain I'd missed the plot and it had to be there somewhere. 😓

I think the marketing for immortal longings was bad. In her acknowledgements/authors note she says it was "inspired by" so saying its a retelling is actually incorrect but all the publishing marketers just take that hot button word and run with it. I enjoyed it, but I still see the critiques people bring up writing wise. Agree with you on Shark Heart, looking for more metaphor on maybe chronic illness, cancer, disease of any kind, didn't really get any of that.

Immortal Longings got several good reviews in a Discord I'm in so I picked it up.... There was not a SINGLE good element in it. It felt like a virtual reality or Grand Theft Auto (with bodies instead of cars) for all the weight/significance/importance of the magic system. No world building, no care. Hated it.

Came for the Wheel of Time watches (love the Mojo), and stayed for everything else. The reading that I do generally tends to stay with specific authors who put out enough to keep me near constantly in book at the pace I go (working on The Blade Itself based upon your word), so I had a question. Any regret when you read a book that you dislike. That's always one of my big concerns.
@LienesLibrary
@LienesLibrary 8 ай бұрын
not really any regrets, or very few - I have a channel, so I can talk about books I dislike and get content out of it, and I also find that I usually learn something about what not to do as a writer or about a thing I really dislike as a reader, so I get something out of the experience if not enjoyment
