Listening to you playing bass made me smile, and I dearly needed that. I’m also always intrigued by how modern basses seems to do well, compared to the more old designs on guitars. Especially since I’m considering getting my first bass for fun, and I want a P Bass of all things :) (Up the Irons!)

To me, nothing sounds as good as a P-bass for recording. I'll shelf my 1700 dollar Stingray for a 300 MIM P-bass and not think twice because the P simply sounds better when recording.

You realize you have a bass player's name already - you have an extra "s" (unless it's a pseudonym), so you should be really good. Johnny Gustafson played bass for Roxy Music, other groups, and also did studio work.

bassists were much more receptive to the new tech decades ago than guitarists were, there were some outliers like the Greatful Dead, who had preamp-equipped guitars with tons of switches and stuff all the way back in the 70s but it wasn't really until EMG pickups became the standard for metal that most guitarists would bat an eyelash at anything modern

I really like the bass. Back when I started out playing bass in 2006 I had to decide between a Yamaha RBX775 and the Ibanez Ergodyne EDA905 (the mentioned Resin version of this bass) - I went for the RBX because I was a big fan of John Myung who played a Yamaha JM-2 at this time. I still love my RBX and it's my main instrument but somehow I still regret not picking up the EDA905. Sometimes I search on the used market for it, but you hardly ever see one. So I am really tempted to get one as I don't want to miss the opportunity twice. :) ...although I was looking at the Ibanez Gary Willis Fretless Basses when I found out about the revival of the Affirma basses. Can't afford both. :-D

Hey Phillip how about giving a quick rundown on how to do a setup on this bass. With the dual truss rod it must be tricky. I bought this bass and i need to adjust the neck , lots of buzzing. I should add , I’m not a bass player but wanted a good quality bass to play around with. This really caught my eye. Very nice for sure.

I’ve asked about that bass many times. I think it’s an SR800 and I had one when they first came out. I wasn’t doing my own guitar work at the time and the guy doing it for me didn’t like the neck because it was very finicky and changed drastically with the seasons. He convinced me to get rid of it and to this day I’m very upset that I did. They are totally awesome basses if you know you’ll be adjusting the truss rod frequently going in.

Wow, an impressive Bass. I allways liked piezo systems where you are able to blend magnetic and piezo signal. When you play your walking bass line (about 7:44) l was able to hear the harmonics of every string, of every tone. Even while listening to KZfaq. Advice: use a headphone!

@ronbzoom8531
@ronbzoom8531 4 жыл бұрын
@@wyattlytenin7715Fretless for sure. And now that I think of it, he may not have had the original Affirma bass. I know he was a big Wal guy for sometime but eventually switched to Ibanez. But was it the original Affirma? I know that he had played an Ibanez Ergodyne bass (synthetic bodied successor to the very limited Affirma) but he had the magnetic pickups removed so that it was all piezo pickups and of course, fretless. I don't think he cared for the luthite body so Ibanez did eventually build him a natural wood version of the Ergodyne. And that's the Ibanez bass I may be thinking of. So to correct myself, Percy may have never played the original Affirma. But rather a wood version of the Ergodyne who's body shape was a plastic version of the original Affirma. Yeah I know, way more than what you asked but what's a bass junkie like me to do?

Nice bass. I'm torn on Ibanez right now. I just refused a lefty Ibanez RG652AHML ($1,600) guitar because the not only were the frets on it the worst and sharpest fret ends of any instrument over $250 I've ever picked up but the neck was twisted as well...and it was made at the Fujigen factory in Japan! To say I was disappointed is a massive understatement. At least GC was good with the return. If I would have been able to pick it up and check it out before purchasing I would have never bought it.
