@@DoctorAnne hello dr. I'm 28 and I've had the same problem. I suddenly started breaking out a year ago in the mask area. I'm african and the hyperpigmentation gets worse with every new spot. I've been using tretinoin to spot treat (it's very irritating so I only use it on the pimple directly) vitamin c serum for hyperpigmentation and I exfoliate once a week using the ordinary glycolic acid 7%. However this didn't stop new pimples from showing up. I get new ones every 2-3 days. For a year now and it's devastating. What am I doing wrong?
@DoctorAnne
@DoctorAnne 2 жыл бұрын
@@dq8330 You are not necessarily doing anything wrong, irritation through mask wearing often leads to breakouts that are stubborn. But if I could suggest something it would be trying to use the Tretinoin all over as it doesn't really work too well as spot treatment (I have a video on how to use it with minimal irritation here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qNF7n9VmtdrGaJc.html ) and then, after you introduced it, maybe use Salicylic Acid rather than glycolic. And then the usual: Change the mask frequently, try not to wear makeup underneath etc.

(For reference I am in my early 30s and I have slightly dry sensitive skin) Thank you in advance x UPDATE : I have been using the inkey list retinol for a little over a month now. I have sensitive dry skin and this seems to be fine with my skin type. I started off slow with just once a week. Now twice a week. I noticed some purging last week. In general everything that works on your face will work on your neck and Décolleté too.nTo quote Caroline Hirons: "Take it to the tits.", which means apply your products not only to your face, but also way down the neck and to the boobs. The exception is Tretinoin - I can´t use it on my neck or Décolleté, it gives me eczema, so I use OTC retinoids there. Right now it is the Retinol Oil from pixi.

I used Skinceuticals 1% retinol, sparingly, but seems unavailable in UK now so I've switched to the 10x cheaper, & gentler, The Ordinary 1% - I *LIKE* these value premium skincare brands: saving me a fortune! I wonder how Inkey' compares with 'Ordinary?
@DoctorAnne
@DoctorAnne 3 жыл бұрын
I think they are pretty similar in what they want to achieve and their pricing. I prefer The Inkey because they don't have so many different strengths of different ingredients - trying to figure out which retinoid from The Ordinary is the right one almost needs a masters degree! But recently they came out with a few new products that I... was not convinced of in terms of marketing, so let's see how that goes. I like and use both brands.
@peterkloostermann
@peterkloostermann 4 жыл бұрын
The retinol is listed after the Hydroxypinacolone Retionate, so there's less than 1%. Caprylyl Glycol is often used below 2% and Disodium EDTA commonly at 0.2%, Carbomer commonly between 0.2-0.5% . So this means they refer to 1% Coated Retinol (RetiStar in this case), which implies about 0.05% active Retinol content. Dimethyl Isorbide, part of the Granactive Retinoid is listed after the Caprylyl Glycol, so there's less than 2% Granactive Retinoid, actually 0.5% like they say. Granactive Retinoid contains 90% Dimethyl Isorbide and 10% Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate, since it's used at 0.5%, this means there's 0.05% actual Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate. So summarized most likely there's 0.05% Retinol and 0.05% Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate, less than what The Ordinary uses.

Tho i experiencing purging (still have some pimples but some of it dried up now), I want to incorporate inkey list retinol serum to my skincare routine. Is it okay to use this while using the ordinary niacinamide? Or what can you recommend for combination skin?.. my routine now is : cosrx salicylic cleanser > thayers witch hazel toner > the ordinary niacinamide serum > nature republic aloe vera soothing gel (as moisturizer). Age: 27. Many thankkks

Niacinamide and Retinol are made to be combined, they work exceptionally well together. The Witch Hazel Toner might be problematic though, as combined with the Salicylic Acid Cleanser and Retinol it could be too much for the skin. You have to see how your skin reacts.

Of course you can, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you should. If it is for acne, go for it. If it is for prevention of premature aging, you first need to cover your basics like regular broadspectrum SPF.

Just an update. I did try the Inkey List Retinol Serum, and it is actually weaker than The Ordinary Granactive 2%. All it did for me was make my skin breakout. I found it odd, and then I read reviews on Sephora. Many other people experienced the same problem. I decided to try the First Aid Beauty Retinol Serum, which contains 0.25% pure retinol. I use it 2-3 times a week, and I really like it. There is a big difference between retinol and its cousins.

Doctor Anne The Q10 serum-it is thick, contains dimethicone,(I don’t want it in any of my serums-personal preference, does not tell you the percentage of the active ingredient in this one, and I do not like the way it dispenses. The Vitamin C brightening cream- contains domethicone, and it is not a well rounded product for me. I use a Vitamin C, E and Ferulic acid serum that is so much better. I also find that their ingredients list is so long. I personally do not like anything that I have tried from the brand. I will not purchase their products again.

@@kimberlyvieira2133 The Q10 Serum is one of my favorites, I actually think it is very lightweight, but things can work totally different on different skins. Personally I love dimethicone because it is lightweight, perfect for my blemish prone complexion and antiinflammatory, but you already said that this is a personal preference. The Vitamin C one is not my favorite either, but rather bc the concentration is so high that I found it irritating, I actually liked the texture. But if a brand doesn’t work for you, there is no point in trying, so I totally get how you feel about them. All skins are different.

Hi there. Sorry to ask a question, and so late after your video at that but I'm new to your channel and so confused about retinoids. I've been looking at them for years as a preventative due to dysmorphia issues. I'm now 28 and I have never bought them until now. I have smooth skin and virtually no lines on my face bar some forehead very faint expression ones, only seen when pressing my face against the mirror really. I want to use this as a preventative measure but the lingo/terminology for retinols/retinoids etc is so confusing. I had read many times that 0.05% is a good strength for very beginner preventative use. However trying to find 0.05% online seems near impossible or if its out there, very expensive. Google ends up taking me to much stronger items or things like granactive retinoids which is where confusion really kicks in. The various similarly named but not at all the same in strength products. I purchased this inkey list retinol last night after finding out retistar 1% is...retinol 0.05%... so I assumed this was a good low strength for a beginner such as myself. Now I'm watching your video and you say it's medium strength and not something you advise for a beginner. I'm slightly regretting buying this now and I'm just wondering if you know of any affordable retinol at 0.05%? I'm scared of damaging my skin by starting too strong. Sorry for the long message and thanks in advance!

Retinol 0,05% is a good starting point, don´t worry. If you want to make sure there are no issues, start introducing it slowly and only use it twice a week at first. That way you can gradually see how your skin tolerates it best.

You could of course try, but I would be very careful with using retinoids on the eye area. Creams are designed to spread out, so if you bring them too close they might migrate into your eyes and irritate them. If you wan to use retinoids around the eye are, I would opt for a formula with a very low concentration, at least if you are new. If you then want something stronger, you could use this one, but make sure to just take it to the orbital bone and not close to the eyes. Are you already using an eye product with retinoids?

Will ist work for acne prone skin?
@DoctorAnne
@DoctorAnne 4 жыл бұрын
If it is real acne, you probably need a prescription. If you just suffer from some breakouts, it will help.

Doctor Anne thank you so much for answering my question do you think the ordinary retinols in Squalane would work to, because it’s really hard to get it at the moment or would I break out even more because of the Squalane ?
@DoctorAnne
@DoctorAnne 4 жыл бұрын
The squalane should work well for your skin, but I am not sure if you would enjoy the texture.

Hi Doc I am using this one as beginner for 3 months and I am 29 but it’s still gives me acne and pimple .. what should I do shall I stop using it or shall I continue
@DoctorAnne

For the treatment of real acne, no retinol you can buy like this will be enough. I suggest you go see a dermatologist to address the acne issue. If you still want to try skincare, maybe the Retinal from Geek & Gorgeous would be a good option (here is my review: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r5mUac6Cz5q1nYk.html ), but again: you will probably need a treatment plan and prescription.

@@DoctorAnne but I didn’t have acne before after using this acne is coming on my skin
@DoctorAnne
@DoctorAnne 2 жыл бұрын
@@sumiyaaney7698 Then it is probably not right for you. if you stop it and the breakouts go away, it is a good choice not to start it again. It might be coincidence though, with acne starting for different reasons, just at the same time you started using it.

Can I use retinol on my stretchmarks and cellulite?
@DoctorAnne
@DoctorAnne 3 жыл бұрын
You can in theory, but depending on the kind of retinoid you are using, you might not want to cover a large surface are of skin. Retinol should be fine though.
