You can set the module to trigger out, and then connect that to a CV/expression input on a guitar pedal. Then you can control that pedal knob with CV, doing this with a Chase bliss pedal will give some really cool results. You have too put the jump step component to 0 on each step you want to send a trigger, you can use any track you want. Setting up a trigger sequence and then changing the step length, or bar length will affect how long the trigger pulse is, changing the speed of the trigger pulse. It also gets affected by volume, so if change that track to MIDI your expression will change. Combine with the line I/O and the trigg in say from a drum machine or another synth, you can then jump steps on any of the 8 audio tracks, + the I/O track. Then it becomes a really powerful expression tool!

I could figure that this module will be handy. This is very well implemented, I am impressed. Now I want one, also then my "collection" of OP-Z modules will be complete again.

You have all the gear I have PLUS all the gear I want (Mood, soft pop 2, etc.)! Any thoughts on keeping this module AND the OPLAB? I have the latter for use with Bastl Kastles and am about to get an 0-Coast (although I guess that has MIDI as well as CV), but don’t love the idea of switching modules in and out. Thanks for your videos, by the way. The OP-Z I/o one was really helpful to me.

Hey dude! Sorry for the late reply. So happy that you liked the video and that the I/O one helped you out as well! 😃🍻 If you’re using modular synths like the 0-coast i would definatley keep the Oplab. It’s just so much more creative possibilities with the CV controls than just the MIDI. I’m not that much into switching modules either but I think it’s a bad time to sell the oplab when you’re getting deeper into modular synths. Thank you again for watching and let me know if you have any more questions! And share with me if you post any vids of the 0-coast and oplab experience! 😃🙏

Thank you for this very cool video. Just a few questions : Do you get a better sampling quality with the "line in" compare to usb sampling? The same thing for the midi , what is the difference with sending midi signal via usb? Thank you
@Shimmery.mp3
@Shimmery.mp3 2 жыл бұрын
Hey dude! Great questions. Sorry for the late reply! Without doing serious testing I feel like the sampling quality is pretty much the same. I havn’t tested the MIDI functions really so I don’t know for sure but they should be the same possibilities as over USB. A good thing is that you free up the USB when you’re using the Line module :) Thank you so much for watching! 😃🙏🍻

thx for review! Can you send metronome to ZM output? (no click via master output)
@Shimmery.mp3
@Shimmery.mp3 2 жыл бұрын
Good question! Sorry for the late reply. I think you have to ”sacrifice” a track and make your own metronome(by entering short sounds on the 1, 2, 3 & 4) and send that track through the Line module. I don’t think it’s possible to send the original metronome to the module track without hearing it also in the master output. Thanks for watching! ☺️🙏🍻

Hello, Any idea how to sync RD9 and opz? I connect the sync out on the rd 9 and plug it into the midi in on the opz ( line module) then enable clock in on the midi set up ( opz app) the led is synced to the beat but the opz is not synced to the beat. how do i make it play whenever i press play on the RD9? any idea thanks!!!

If you still want MIDI when using this module, you can add a USB to MIDI cable to the USB-C port

If there is a way to do sidechain Compression I'm sold
@Shimmery.mp3
@Shimmery.mp3 2 жыл бұрын
that would be a sweet addition! Unfortunatley it can't be done at the moment(what I'm aware of) unless you fake it using an LFO to lower the volume of the Module track..that could get you to a sidechain-ish sound but it's not the real deal. :-/ Write to TE and tell them your idea! :)

Hey dude! You can hook up a CD player for sure! :) it should be No problem syncing your drumcomputer. But it depends a bit more on which one you got. So I don’t dare to promiss anything on that but I really think it would be possible. Let me know if you get it to work! 😃🍻

If I like to connect (sample) pure analog synth with only CV input, ZM-4 does not offer CV out, right? Or it does it? (maybe Audio out is dc coupled?) So one option for me to send out Midi and convert to CV outside of OP-Z (for example, Arturia Keystep)?
@Shimmery.mp3
@Shimmery.mp3 Жыл бұрын
The ZM4 does not offer CV unfortunatley. So you are correct about using something like the Keystep to convert midi to cv. Hope you’ll have fun! 😃🍻

when connecting a guitar pedal do the cables need to be mono?
@Shimmery.mp3
@Shimmery.mp3 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply! It all comes down to the pedal. If the pedal is a mono pedal it’s always best to use mono cables. The same for stereo. A mono pedal MIGHT work with stereo cables but it can start behaving weird.
@TheErikyo
@TheErikyo 2 жыл бұрын
Nice vid! Can it export all tracks at the same time to ableton? (Rather than one at a one)(audio) Also can we use VST effects through the line module? Can you use multiple fx pedals at the same time?
@Shimmery.mp3
@Shimmery.mp3 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! 😃 No it’s not the same as Overbridge on Elektrons gear unfortunatley. But you can send two tracks out of Line and then two tracks out of your regular stereo out. So you can bounce four tracks at a time(you just need a splitter cable to splitt the stereo out of Line to two mono outs). If you plug your computer into the Line module you can play any sound from your computer through it. including VSTs. You can use multiple effect pedals if you place them in one signal chain. I hope this helps Otherwise let me know! 🙏😃🍻

Unpopular opinion: Teenage Engineering is a scam. I've owned several of their products and they're just not made well. The OP-Z bends and flexes over time (they also have bad battery quality control). It's encoders pop out over time. And now they charge you the privilege of having a line-in? They make all of these claims about building things they way they do so that they can be "cheap" but there are a lot of companies selling better made & sounding stuff for as much or cheaper.
@Shimmery.mp3
@Shimmery.mp3 2 жыл бұрын
I hear you dude! There’s been both highs and lows from TE. But I think you pay for the fresh ideas and concepts together with their aesthetic design. The cheaper and better sounding stuff is usually more or less the same stuff that’s been around for years without any new approach to it.
@localhost4460
@localhost4460 2 жыл бұрын
@@Shimmery.mp3 I hear that argument, but then I look at their product line and they've been living off the same 3 PCB designs for 10 years now. They're like the Elon Musk of the synth world.

@@Shimmery.mp3 Not directed at you per se. Your video was great, informative, enthusiastic. I'm just disappointed with TE because of the op-Z's battery appears to be irreplaceable in north America. They made a short run of replacement batteries last winter that were available only in Europe/UK. Their lack of interest in replying to customer service inquiries in this regard made me think they actually were abandoning the product. So a new module is indeed surprising. I haven't sold my dead battery OP-z yet because it does still pack a lot of functionality in a tiny package, but I probably will when I need the $... Cheers!
