I see the Proper as an everyday, yard, garden, workshop user and the Lionsteel as an EDC Gentleman's knife for opening packages, cutting apples, and daily tasks. Both great choices

I have both and the Proper gets the most carry simply because it has a lanyard hole for me to attach a suspension clip.

Love that Roundhead. Just love the more traditional look. I am glad to see tradition knives making a comeback. Just something about the simplicity of the old traditional. Threw your channel a shout out on one of my latest videos. Good video thanks man👍

First time I have viewed one of your videos and found it very enjoyable! I believe the proper is actually based on the canoe pattern of traditional knives though the edges around the proper seem to be more linear compared to a more rounded traditional canoe. I’ve recently gotten a proper with the sheepsfoot blade and luckily my hands fit perfectly for it though I can see how the more straight design of the lion steel can accommodate multiple hand sizes. Good to know where I can get a lion steel too should they come out with one that has a lanyard hole!

The ApostleP did the Roundhead and Shuffler comparison video . Besides blade shape there are two differences , the Shuffler is thinner behind the edge , and it has an improved sharpening choil . New Roundheads also have the improved sharpening choil .

New Roundheads are also thinner behind the edge. Not by much, but a bit.

I prefer the BM Proper, for two reasons. Firstly, while I prefer the Barlow pattern from a distance, I hate that LS covered the Roundhead/Shuffler with those hideous screws, then didn’t even bother to allow disassembly, and for that I prefer the BM aesthetically (wish it had wood handles though). Secondly, LS has a tendency to run their M390 way too soft, whereas BM has probably the best commercially available S30v treatment available. As a result, actual edge retention and blade performance on the Proper is way better than the Roundhead, despite being “inferior steel”. This shifts the blade category towards the Proper, instead of a tie, personally. Honestly, it’s mostly the first point on aesthetics and disassembly that pushes it over (the lanyard hole is also handy), but the better overall blade doesn’t hurt. I’m hoping to get this exact version of the Proper before long, and the Shuffler was it’s only real competition, so I’m glad to see this comparison.

I liked the Roundhead so much I bought a GEC #78 to experience a "real" high end traditional. I love it! The steel definitely doesn't perform like m390 (of course) but it touches up super easily and I do love a good patina. It developed a hint of side play which bothers my OCD but isn't enough to impact performance. The thinness of the grind is so splendid though! Cuts like crazy. Very handsome knife in my opinion.

A "true" traditional is my next purchase. I just got a Maserin Plow Sodbuster with D2 and it's very good but definitely a $30 knife. Which is what CK claims.

Nice, yeah I saw Mike Latham's 360 look on that one. I would definitely recommend checking out a GEC and I'd be curious to see how you think it stacks up against these two.

I thought the F&F would be much better on the LS.. I'm near 3 stores plus an REI that are big BM dealers.. If I had a $1 for every bad BM I've handled, I could at least buy another damn 940...But, BM did to a good job with the Proper... I stupidly sold my micarta but have the G10 I got at REI for $60..I'm sure the G10 didn't sell nearly as well..

Talk with Stassa23, his guy did an orange G10 and green micarta. I ordered my Dom in ebony just because that seemed to fit, all the next runs offer different micartas. I keep vacillating though!

I've got a Proper and a Shuffler, honestly even though the Shuffler is thinner behind the edge I still prefer the blade on the Proper. For some reason the M390 on the Shuffler doesn't hold its edge as well as the Benchmade S30V, not sure if it's down to heat treat. I do love both knives though :) And i'm looking at getting copper scales for the Proper :D

How much of a sucker for micarta are you? There's a knife that has black linen micarta scales on a back lock with 3.25 inch s30v blade for $65 on amazon. What's the catch?.... It's a buck (a deluxe spitfire, usually 420hc and aluminum). I like micarta too so I look at this all the time but I've had issues with their newer stuff (not the 110, 112, 119 etc).

I just can't get over the handle design of the Proper. It's almost like it was designed to be uncomfortable in anything but small hands. Lose that silly hump/point on the back to make it more neutral and I think it'll be something really special. Love micarta.

I've had the BM for a couple of years and it's not all that well made for the money. I think it's poorly designed. I don't carry it anymore it's a desk knife.

100% lionsteel in this case. I had a lionsteel ti frame lock that you could tap the spine of the blade on your palm and the lock would fail, HOWEVER, these are slip joints, and Benchmade has some of the worst heat treats I've ever experienced on big brand knives. I've had several Benchmades and only 1 of them had an edge that performed as intended. I'll NEVER buy another Benchmade, but I would go for a lionsteel slip joint or fixed blade.
