Liquid Soap Making Part 2: Diluting your Handmade Soap Paste 溶解液體皂團 (2 Ways)

Hello! It's Janice from The Scraftworks again. This video will be showing you guys two easy ways to dilute your handmade soap! First one is using the crockpot on the warm settings and the second just letting it sit on its own. The second one is my favourite way! Let me know which one is your favourite in the comments. Please always follow safety requirements while making soap! Sodium/Potassium hydroxide is caustic and can cause burns on skin or on mucous membranes!

I must say I have never tried just putting the paste and water into my bottles and letting time do the work. Great idea!

It works just as well!! I usually takes about one day or so for everything to be dissolved if you do a portion for a bottle!

Is it a must to use a crockpot or can one use a normal cooking pot at low temperature when making the liquid soap?

You don’t have to use a crockpot or even any heat at all. If you use direct heat, you need to make sure you need to control the heat source and I would recommend a taller cook pot in case a volcano occurs. You can use it right away once it passes the zap test (it doesn’t zap when you put the soap paste on your tongue) but the soap just gets better as it sequester (cure) in around 4 weeks

I diluting my soap in 1:1 and the soap is hardened next morning, how am I supposed to do?

That has not happened to me but I guess that’s not enough water to dilute the soap paste so it harden. Perhaps you can try adding more water! Let me know if that helps

In the cold method, the ratio listed is 1:3, but later you divided the water by 4 to get the amount of paste which makes the ratio 1:4. Which paste:water dilution ratio is it, 1:3 or 1:4?

The paste to water dilution is 1:3 so there’s four portions - therefore you divide the total volume of your bottle by 4 and times it by the corresponding portion which is 1 part for the paste and 3 parts for the water.

20-35% salt solution will do the job😉

Is this need preservative diluting one

Normally it is not needed because of the high pH of the soap but you may want to if you will sell the soap. Remember to pick a preservative that can survive in a high pH

Would you add glycerin if you would like the soap a little thicker but still safe with dilution?

Yes you can! I think I will keep it at 10% if the soap paste to avoid affecting the lathe and cleansing properties of the soap. You can also add a saturated salt solution and watch out to add too much can make the soap cloudy.
