You can actually just bring your soap to trace(paste consistency), then wrap your pot with a blanket and allow to sit on your counter for 6-12 hours without stirring. That will get it to and through gel stage. Zap or pH test, and if no zap, or the pH is below 11, then you are good to dilute. If still zappy, just re-wrap and allow more time. HTH

Thank you Susie for your suggestion. My experience is that if I mix thoroughly, the gel stage will come within 15 minutes with using immersion blender. With accurate calculation, I usually get a good batch of pH 9-10 soap paste after oven process. I still need to have more experience with soap made of just soft oil like olive oil, without any coconut oil and such.

Thank you Ava for this. !! It is very helpful and detailed. I want to make this soap base to make a sort of heavy liquid soap. Can you or anybody tell me how to make it liquid OR how to dissolve it later??? I guess I could just add distilled water but I don't want to compromised the SHELVING time on my liquid soap. I think maybe a lye water made with both NOH and NaOH can change the consistency but I would not know the ratios. Also the type of oils I thank can contribute to make softer but not liquid. ANY HELP ON THAT??? Thank you!!!!

+Nikinik If you want longer shelf life, try my other video"Taiwan Style Cold Process Liquid Soap Making Record" . It will take three weeks to mature before you can dilate the soap base. When come to dilute the soap base, you can just boil the water to make it softer water. Do not use KOH and NaOH, the diluted liquid soap will be too base and erosive. My play list also have a diluting video.

+Ava THANK YOU - thank you for your kindness in replying!! Since this will be my first time making paste-liquid soap PLEASE let me see if I got it right: 1.- Make this soap as it is 2.- Let it "rot" or mature for 3 weeks 3.- THEN take a portion of this soap base and boil BOTH soap and water to reach the desired consistency - OR - boil the water alone and the add it to a portion of this and whipped again to mix well. Which of this 2 ways should I do?? Considering that I want to extend the life of my soap which of the 2 should I use? I could no find the other videos you mention. I sure wish I could see the 2 videos that you mention but did not find them. I did find the one on Aloe Vera liquid soap for babies and I think it is awesome!! We are in opposite sides of the world and I feel soooo grateful to you for helping me out with this.

Hi Ava, if you use the original glass lid with the metal handle you will be fine... Glass in cook ware can take a lot of heat...much more then nyou can reach with an oven in the house... Regards, Sander

Thanks for the comment. I don't know the non ovenproof glass ware can be used in the oven or not. On the other hand, steam from cooking might reach higher temperature than oven heat. I might give it a try in the future and used the glass lid in making oven process liquid soap.

sandertel Hello ^^ I used the glass lid which belong to the stainless pasta cooker in oven yesterday. I made a batch of liquid soap with two oils(coconut and castor). The glass lid didn't have any problem with the oven heat at 300F. I could clearly see how much the soap paste had risen and stirred it down, I felt the process seemed to be shorten to two and half hours. During this process, I came up with another idea. For the hot process soap making part, I want to replace oven with a solar oven. By using solar oven, the kitchen will not be heated up so much. Not to mention the electric bill.

Could be very good to go solar... the thing with solar installations is they are usually not very stable temperature wise. In order to achieve some sort of stable temperature, you would need to get/build/come up with a solar device with a lot of thermal mass. So in essence a mass heater and a solar oven combined... Could be good, could be very good infact... I imagine a natural stone structure with the looks of a outdoor bread/pizza oven, on which is mounted a reflector which heats the mass of the oven...

Best to see if the process you are using in the oven can be replicated in a oven/wonderbox setup. The oven would be used JUST to heat the (to be) soap mixture up to a certain temp. and the wonderbox (basically a sewn styro filled set of bags) is used to insulate the pot and to prevent heat from escaping in large quanities... thus "cooking" your soap without any extra heat in the house and without the electric bill obviously.... The wonderbox is known on youtube and plans/patterns can be downloaded from the shownotes... I use the wonderbox for both soap and culinairy ventures and it is a very handy addition to the kitchen in general... Good luck, Sander
