I loved the bromance between James and Poirot in the Murder of Roger Ackroyd lol, its what made it extra cutesy

Lots good written by Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler. The Maltese Falcon is wonderful. Best wishes with your reading choices.

Hello, Aaron. New subscriber here; I learned about you on Katie's channel. I think we have very similar tastes in mysteries: I'm re-reading right now the Miss Marple book that you just discussed--The

You have some of my favorite ones in there. In particular, I love the Brother Cadfael series. I am no specialist of the medieval period, but I feel like the research was very well done. I have the second and third omnibus like thenone you are holding. Hopefully one day I will get my hands on the other volumes too.

Arkady from Gorky Park was good. I went as far as Polar star, but that was 25 years ago, so need to revisit the character

Just a comment about the Miss Marple movies/tv series available. There are the 1960's films with Margaret Rutherford. Then the TV series -- the first with Joan Hickson (whom Agatha Christie hoped would play Miss Marple one day). She is considered the perfect Miss Marple by many people (including myself:)). She was already 80 years old when she filmed the first episode (Murder at the Vicarage). The series ended in 1992 with The Mirror Crack'd from Side to Side, when she was 86. She filmed a total of 8 book adaptations.

Nice picks. I love the big three as well. I'm hit and miss on Peter Wimsey but when he's good he's great. (I loved Strong Poison, and I recommend The Nine Tailors and Murder Must Advertise if you haven't read those. Strong Poison aside, I tend to prefer Wimsey without Harriet Vane.)

Like you, I like the 'big three'. I've been reading a couple of Holmes books by James Lovegrove - they're not bad too. Wimsey I'm a fan of, favourites there, Clouds of Witness and the short stories. Three other detective favourites, Maisie Dobbs by Jacqueline Winspear (private detective between the wars), Lady Hardcastle by T.E. Kinsey (historical, good humour) and Ruth Galloway by Elly Griffiths (archaeology, Norfolk based)... her Harbinder Kaur series is also very good. Probably my favourite crime series - of a sort - is the Charlie Parker books by John Connolly, but those are paranormal and quite creepy so not everyone's cup of tea. Maigret's good - I could go on and on...

Of course, I love Christie. Besides Marple and Poirot, I really like the Superintendant Battle books. I just finished The Seven Dials Mystery and it was really fun. Towards Zero is one of Christie’s best, in my opinion. The Miss Silver mysteries are quite good. Miss Silver is a retired governess, so another old lady detective. And for someone who is not quite as old, the Vera Stanhope books by Ann Cleeves. You already know I love Inspector Wexford. If you ever want something just really silly, I confess to enjoying the Agatha Raisin series by MC Beaton. I’ve only “read” those via audiobook. I’d also recommend the Jackson Brodie series by Kate Atkinson.

Love Miss Marple but nobody can top Poirot for me. I adore Poirot way more than anyone should care for a fictional character lol

I've just discovered the Jules Maigret books by Georges Simenon and he's fast becoming a new favourite.

I’ve just realized that I don’t really have a favorite detective. I really enjoy Kathy Reichs series but Temperance Brennan isn’t titled a detective even though she figures everything out through the science 🧐
