Definitely Pagan, especially for Giltine. Those Chosen Ones even shred the heaviest teutonic infantry, Ritterbrüder stand no chance. But they're actually more powerful than they should be, having a shield of 8 despite having no shield at all.

Another thing to think about in terms of economy is that you can just wait for the other factions to upgrade their larger settlements before taking them. I’ve gotten citadels and huge cities as pagan in the later game just from taking them

I wish they had made the pagan route more viable, or made the catholic conversion feel more unique. The choice is kind of bad both ways. Either stay pagan and deal with the fact you can't build up your provinces very far nor convert them, and your units lack late-game potential, or go catholic and give up most of what makes the faction unique.

For me, paganism wins every time, because conversion is too hard. Arquebusers are the only positive thing. Paganism in a nutshel. Cities can produce heavy cav, heavy infantry or missile cav. Castles on the other hand can produce similar heavy inf and missile cav, but cannot train heavy cav. Just swap all castles to cities, get increase of economy and make better units. Simple. Psganism is just better.

Ive just started my second playthrough, after the first one on hardest where I was wrecked from all sides so I tried a tricky move, I gave all my cities to Novgorod, traded them for 3 of theirs (so there was another faction - ally on the west) and I could focus on the north.

I was playing Lithuania and got the choice to convert to Catholicism around Turn 60. However, by that point, I had pretty much wiped out the Teutonic Order, was starting to advance on Poland that backstabbed me, and had a very stable alliance with Novgorod. The Pagan units were very useful in achieving this, and I would lose all of them if I was to convert. Poland would get the upper-hand while I tried to rebuild my armies, and both the Mongols and Denmark would probably try to attack me. There was no way that I would convert simply for the chance to get gunpowder and be more liked by my neighbors.

I think there are two ways to get the conversion offer. First is that you get beaten so hard that you have fewer than 5 or something settlements. (I don't know if there is a turn limit to this) You'll get the conversion offer. If you did not receive this offer, or you refused, you'll get offered around turn 50 something. I just completed a Lithu pagan playthrough. The pagan units noticeably are very cheap for what they actually worth. Not just the units, buildings as well. Only 4200 total florins needed for Giltine's temple, very cheap. The economy pressure can be further lowered by going majority cities in mid game. Even though you may still need a few castles for the spear/axe and shield infantry that can hold the line, but all other useful units can be, and can only be trained in cities as cities can upgrade temples while castles can't. Converting is a huge mess; after conversion, majority of your military will have to come from castles, and you need a stunning lot of money to upgrade and build military buildings.

The Latvian Crossbowmen are too hard to resist.

Personally I never put that much weight to the conversion as a dilema in the Tutonic Campaign. The real dilemma is whether or not you should upgrade your towns into Large Towns, since the terrain for the Villages and Towns are so fun to defend with. From Large Towns upwards you lose that massive hill that forms the town centre.

I normally create mounted archers and heavy cav armies you shouldn´t autoresolve in them but Shooting teutonic armies to shreds is fun and why are the teutons still alive at turn 43?

I actually like the Dievas guard. They're decent heavy cav with a strong attack, descent charge, and armor piercing. They also have better morale than most other cav the Lithuanians have which means they don't instantly break if they're in a sticky situation.

Melkor can you tell us how to rank up units? I see them ranking up in battle when they glow in rome total war, but i have literally no idea what causes this Thank you my liege

Giltine Chosen are the best unit in the game. Only one with 26 on defense, bonus against Calvary charge, and attack as good as the best infanteries. They are no broken just because the unit has less soldier as usual, sadly. Sometimes appears a image during the loading games where Giltines chosens have a full cover helmet, but I never get them in the game.

How do you play medieval 2 normally, Melkor ? Is it with mods or vanilla

Melkor, I have three questions about the game (and any other TW game, if possible) using console commands: 1) Can you switch factions during in-game? (eg. playing as Gaul and switch to Egypt during the same campaign mid-game) 2a) Can you add/erase buildings from settlements that would, otherwise, be inaccesible or impossible? (eg. playing as SPQR, introduce a console command to have all the Roman temples; and erase infrastructure such as walls & roads) 2b) If you can, does the game crash during battles in those affected settlements?

I am currently in the middle of a Lithuania campaign and have defeated the Teutonic order so I feel no need to Convert to Catholicism. Novgorod have been my allies the whole game and I am so close to getting rid of the Mongols and Polish!

I thought that this was a review of stainless steel lithuania. I used them and campaign mode and it is so difficult! Right off the bat you're surrounded by independent and rebel city-states where you could just take a bunch of territory without pissing off any faction. But after about 15 or 20 turns, everybody starts to encroach on you. All of your enemies are Christian and hostile to your pagan religion. It's easy to piss off one of your Catholic neighbors and the pope will call a crusade to take over Vilinus, biggest castle and your capital... Another thing is a lot of your castles which give you the best units are so spread out and also you're better units all cost money to keep in the field. With free upkeeping castles, it's hard to make the decision whether you want to move them out and fight and conquer more territory, or just keep them stagnant but free for a while in case of an emergency. I just wanted to see if anybody else used the Lithuania in stainless steel campaign mode and had any issues with them

I am allied with the papal states as pagan and conquering africa and the Aztecs as a pagan to see if can be done.

I got the offer to turn to Catholicism right after I'd wiped out the Teutons. I did not just wipe out an entire faction and kill thousands of people just to wind up converting and letting them get the moral victory.

the perkunas temple is far more op than you think ....these crossbow man hit hard and combine that with Giltine here and there and bam you just saved money on barracks and Archery's

I played with Lithuania two times on very hard difficulty and its extremly hard. couldnt beat the teutonic order and then poland who was allied with TO and Mongols attacked me and thats it.
