Damn, like it or not Little Richard is the true King of Rock-n-Roll. This man knew The Beatles before they hit big, had The Rolling Stones opening for him while Jimi Hendrick's and Preston played for him. Elvis can't say this...not even close. My respect, Mr. Little Richard...R.I.P.
@truthinlight42553 жыл бұрын
@frank regalado - settle down. Lol Yes it's always cool to hear Little Richard talk about these legends that he had a hand with and inspired. I am with you there. But look, do you have an even remote concept of just how many Legends / icons are in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame that have given interviews saying - "if it were not for Elvis..." - in their interviews? And Many Dozens of those other legendary greats have gone on record into extensive detail of just how powerfully that Elvis influenced and inspired them. Might want to actually research that a little bit. I mean it shouldn't be a competition. But let's not take the low-road of trying to make Little Richard somehow more special just because you feel those Legends he mentioned somehow make him better than Elvis. Hell, Little Richard himself had great respect for Elvis. He used to tell people he remembered back in the early days of rock & roll when it was just pretty much he & Elvis, more than any of the other rockers, that were selling the most records ..and that the kids were going crazy over the 2 of them the most. He talked about how saw all the Hate Elvis was getting, and Little Richard pointed out much of that hate was from racist white people. Little Richard dealt with that racist hate of course also. His drummer, Charles Conner was also a drummer for James Brown. Charles Conner is a legendary R&B drummer. He also documented how much he himself and Little Richard and James Brown all respected Elvis. He talked about one night when a bunch of white cops harassed him and Little Richard after a concert and those cops told them to - "Tell your n-word lovin' friend Elvis when he comes to town next week we're going to harass him also". And they did harass Elvis. This stuff is documented from those old newspapers back then Little Richard and BB King talked about how Elvis caught pure hell and how it wasn't an easy Road for him. They all had mad respect for Elvis. And out there in old archived newspaper and magazine interviews from 1969, 1970, 1971, and 1972 are interviews where Little Richard talked about how Elvis was Legit. In one of those interviews he talked about some of the people that ripped him off, BUT how he wouldn't tolerate people talking that shyt about Elvis, because L. Richard made it clear Elvis was not one of them. He talked about how Elvis always had his back and he even told a story about a favor Elvis did once to help him out. It meant a lot to Little Richard. And another interview he also said one of the things he respected about Elvis was, (unlike some of the other entertainers out there), Elvis didn't use his public platform to put other people down, he always tried to lift people up. I mean this was Little Richard talking about Elvis in interviews. And Little Richard was correct about that. Listening or reading the dozens of Elvis's interviews is evidence. (Not to mention also the hundreds of times Elvis did it from the stage throughout his years.) Chuck D from Public Enemy said years ago Little Richard called him out for dissing Elvis. I mean Chuck D admitted this in an interview himself. And Chuck D later acknowledged he was wrong about Elvis. He started having a lot of respect for Elvis after he researched more about his career back then and what Elvis went through. People don't know anything about this stuff. It's like people quit reading interviews years ago. Anyway point is let's just try to keep it classy. We can give Little Richard his props without the cheap shots at Elvis, like so many people like to do for some reason.

he said in an interview it was his homosexuality (Richard's) that he tried to beat out of him as a child. No place for a black homosexual in the South in those days. Completely unacceptable. So his father wailed on him around the clock to try to change him. Later as a kid about 12, Richard's best friend killed his father in a bar. Richard said his friend was in jail a couple of months and then was released, nothing more said about it. That's what he said. On a KZfaq interview with Donny and Marie. You can listen to it. Very sad. Richard cries about his father not loving him.

@ Nobody is trying to erase history. More whites were going to see Little Richard, than blacks. I have always loved him, but he shouldn't be trying to take ALL of the credit. I feel that Richard Penniman suffered a lot of scars. The point is he's American as it can get. His life was more than the music. They hear a whole lot of life those early songs. He was singing is heart out in the name of the lord. They heard God when he sang. They got excited because they didn't understand what they were feeling. Feeling the spirit of nature ripping down their spine through his mighty voice. Rest in Paradise King Richard.
