And after the enemy is defeated and crushed, if those big ships are not then turned against the cowardly backstabbers in the Federation it would be very disappointing.

This reminds me of my time in EVE Online. Some of you are familiar with the story. A mysterious band of human-descent people, the Triglavians, had laid siege to the system of Raravoss. Before this, and even during it, I paid the events little mind. I even held some hope that their efforts would help break the deadlock between the Four Empires, also human. Naivete at its finest. I was plying the spacelanes nearby in a tiny mining frigate when I picked up a distress call. Some other pilots were frantically transmitting on public channels, calling for help to evacuate civilians from the system. Their pleas touched my heart, but I knew I'd be caught and destroyed easily in my frigate. I had just enough to buy a tiny shuttle, fast enough and small enough to *probably* get by the blockade. I took that shuttle and, pushing myself to the limit, quickly dove through the jumpgate before warping to a designated drop zone. As some of the refugees boarded, I took the time to glance around. The system's star caught my eye. Once a bright light, the Triglavians had struck it dim and purple. No wonder the civilians were fleeing, the lifeblood of the system now seemed more like a tombstone, the star's faded light spelling the end of every viable planet's ecosystem. As I escaped the system, then returned at least 3 more times, I knew this evil weapon, and those who wielded it so callously, would need to be stopped. Raravoss was the first to fall. The first of many. But as the conflict grew, so too did I. I kept my mining roots, eventually taking the helm of one of the great Orca mining ships to bring new ships to every new theater. I also grew wise to the ways of war, flying a great shining silver battleship with thunderous artillery cannons and even commanding entire fleets of volunteers fighting tooth and nail to preserve what systems we could. Now, I sit back, waiting for the day another conflict calls to me. Perhaps the enemy will rise again, and I will be waiting. -Bravo Atruin, EDENCOM volunteer

Just want to say as an old NC fleet commander, it's cool to see the old Eve stories brought up in places like this. For any proof that I'm actually old NC, I created the POS bomber idea in a drunken rant.

Having "self-less" read as "self-ish" kind of scrambles the intended meaning of the story, but I get it.

"We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender. And even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God's good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old." -- Sir Winston Chirchill reaffirming the stance of the British Empire to resist Nazi Germany after the battle of Dunkirk

And you know that those pirate ships were shooting back for sure. And I am willing to bet the enemy felt the wrath of humanity then. “May the Emperor of Mankind have mercy on the souls of those Xenos, because when humanity‘s big guns show up, none shall survive. Oh hey! I actually read this a week ago on Reddit. Also, shouldn't it be phrased as "ALMOST a century ago" in redards to Dunkirk? 2023-100 is 1923,which would be after WW1.
