I am from Kashgar. I feel the same way when I visit Turkey. I haven’t been able to visit Kashgar since 1995. I have visited Turkey 5 times, covering most of the popular tourist destinations. Uyghur language is quite close to Turkish, most basic vocabulary and sentence structures are the same, numbers are all the same. I didn’t take me long to learn Turkish by watching Turkish shows on KZfaq. Initially, understood about 60-70% of the dialogues, after about three months, I was able to understand pretty much everything except some cultural subtleties that you need a living experience to comprehend. Now, I can speak, read and write in Turkish, which allows me to visit off the beaten path locations where no one speaks English. I noticed cultural similarities are quite striking in Rural arias, which made me feel like I was visiting Kashgar countryside.
