Bukhchuluun Ganburged (Bukhu) performs at TEDxSydney 2016
Bukhchuluun Ganburged (Bukhu) is a master student of the Music and Dance Conservatory of Ulaanbaatar. Performing the folk musics of Mongolia, and exploring the aural dimensions of sounds generated by traditional instruments and harmonic overtone vocal techniques.
Based in Sydney, Australia since 2009. Bukhu was granted most prestigious Distinguished Talent Visa by the Australian government as an internationally recognised artist with exceptional and outstanding contributions to the arts.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

my dad use to be in a 150 man choir called Vocal Majority, and they would do this with crowds some times, and it's amazing how it always works and sounds beautiful

Anyone can learn to control the overtones and make melodies with regular practice. I believe that the hardest part is to sing with that typical timbre of the drone voice (like at the beginning of the video), anyway it can be done even with a relaxed throat

That speaks to your ancestral dna.... I do not understand why or how but somehow his voice and that fiddle stir something very deep inside me that makes me sad yet joyfull ... I see back to our beginnings on this world when all we had was each other.... Thank you Bukhu ... you touched my soul...🙏

Made me cry! Me hizo llorar! Cuánta belleza,cuánta bella destreza! De pronto me imaginé que si hubiera dedicado hasta hoy mí tiempo en lograr algo comparable en belleza...que divino sería!!! Que divino sería si todos los humanos dedicaramos el trascurso de nuestra vida en alcanzar estás metas. ..que divino sería!!! Yo tengo destreza en pintar,todos admiran mi destreza,sin embargo he hecho tan poco!!! As soon as he hits those snares I get overwhelmed and tear up. As if a feeling of sadness and heartbreak, but also breakthrough, fight, victory and pride takes over. And his singing....pfff. So so spiritual and beautiful ❤

I saw an exhibit called “Citizen’s Band” with this man and I cried when I first saw it. I cried again when I watched this.

Amazingly beautiful. More than music, more than a melody, I feel there is a spiritual connection to the Universe when I hear this style of singing. The drone of Buddhist monks meets out-of-this-world overtones. The choir was fantastic too.

This is a Mongolian traditional throat singing, if anything the soundtrack was indeed used in the Total War which is common for game soundtrack usages. As well as in Star Wars they used Mongolian dialect and sped up the process so it sounds like an alien language. It’s very cool!
