I sold my single family home last year and moved into a high-rise space to minimize my life (amount of cleaning and yard maintenance to do), and focus my finances into starting my business. I now live across the street from Amazon Headquarters so it's been great benefiting from all the new concept stores (Amazon Go, Amazon 4 Star, etc.) that the company rolls out - not to mention being able to return items to Amazon across the street, but it was definitely an adjustment going from a 3,300 sq ft home to one just under 900 sq ft!
I've learned to make the space work for my new lifestyle as I wasn't home as much now that I also had a business to tend to anyway...until Covid-19 hit and forced many of us to quarantine and work remotely! Our homes are no longer just where we sleep and keep our stuff, it's now where we are spending most of our day! Many of us are beginning to feel claustrophobic, but I've been able to transform my home into an inviting and cozy space that allows me to feel like I'm not in a fishbowl or cage 24/7.
I filmed this video to show you all what I've done to my high-rise space to bring nature in and help me enjoy being at home more, and hopefully give you an idea of what living in a high-rise is like if you're contemplating doing the same thing in the near future!
Seattle has great options across the city - with options spanning from condos to apartments when it comes to high-rises. I chose to live right in downtown Seattle which I feel is the best location if you're going to live in a high-rise! Central, convenient and some of the best views of either South Lake Union, Elliott Bay or the beautiful city skyline and surrounding neighborhoods like Capital Hill/Wallingford/Queen Anne/Magnolia/U-District!
Hope you guys enjoyed the video!

I like the azalea you have outside. I would call that a balcony----or maybe if you want to be more classy, a "terrace" but definitely not a "patio". As far as I'm concerned, that is the wrong term for anything above ground. My prediction----you are going to have to move before long because your space is getting crowded already. Mark my words--after a time you'll agree. The alternative would be to start discarding things but that doesn't sound good. I think most viewers want to know how much you are paying to live there each month for this number one location. The views are exceptional.

Holy your apartment is beautiful! Thinking of moving to Washington in just a few years time! If I may ask..what is the rent of an apartment the size of yours?
@Phamever
@Phamever 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! This apartment was $3,150 with 2 months free rent when I moved in - I saw units in the lower floors for the mid $2000's. You can get the same apartment outside of the downtown districts for about $2k-2.5K depending on how high the floor and whether you have ocean/lake views or not. Hope you make it to Seattle soon! :)

The red nectar is super bad for humming birds. You can make your own from sugar and water. 2 cups of sugar to one cup of water.

As an interning in Seattle with no car, would it be best to live in Ballard, Capitol Hill, Downtown Seattle, or Fremont? I like the city like but I also love being where I can workout and walk down the street and get food. I’m wondering if Ballard is good for walkers or if downtown is better for that?
@Phamever
@Phamever 3 жыл бұрын
Honestly, any of those areas are going to be perfectly fine for what you're looking for! If you want to be able to walk to work then I would find a place close to your internship, but if you don't mind taking the bus or other public transportation than live in the neighborhood with the culture you enjoy the most. You should have no issues getting around anywhere without a car if you live in any of the areas you mentioned :)

If you don't have a car (or you're like me and you just don't like driving) you definitely want to live in an area with light rail access. Downtown and Cap Hill both offer that, but Ballard and Fremont do not.

Find a place on the south side near the light rail line. Lower rents, too.

Is this the Cirrus apartment? Do you still live there? We are thinking of moving there this month. We are going to be in the lower apartments facing north, and I'm concerned that it will be too dark and cold. Which way is your apartment facing?
@Phamever
@Phamever 3 жыл бұрын
This is indeed the Cirrus Apartment! I have just moved out after 2 years of living there (needed a bigger space to run my business), but I wouldn't have moved otherwise. My unit was facing north (with one side facing east surrounded by high rises) and it was perfectly fine - my plants really liked it! I think if you're facing north but 6th floor and above you'll be fine - the buildings surrounding the north side are super low (like 4 stories and under) so you'll still get a lot of light. North side is actually the most exposed of the building with the nearest high rise being 3-4 blocks away from it. Have fun living at Cirrus - you'll love it!

What do you think about Renton?
@Phamever
@Phamever 2 жыл бұрын
Renton is a pretty popular area for families and those who want a suburban lifestyle. It has some cute downtown areas that feel small town, and about 20 minutes away from Downtown and 15 minutes from Bellevue so very accessible. The only downside is the traffic is pretty bad if you have to commute to Bellevue/Seattle for work!

@@Phamever OMG! Im graduating UW as business marketing this summer and im also getting my real estate license soon. Hopefully one day i can be living in a high rise like you! Any advice on getting your first job?
@Phamever
@Phamever 3 жыл бұрын
@@batmunkhn6666 Internships! The key is to get as much experience as possible, there are a lot of start-up companies in Seattle - search for them and email their HR or Marketing team if you can find their contact info and ask how you can help their team. I hustled directly to find my first couple internships - I learned the most from start-up companies. I would also recommend getting your real estate license concurrently - it's a very lucrative field and you can also use your marketing skills to build your real estate business...this looks great on your resume when you're pivoting that experience to a direct Marketing role also. Just do all you can to show you are abled and skilled in your craft and you should have no issue landing a job once you graduate. Good luck!
