Many of you who are moving to Seattle (or thinking about it) have asked me to share more about what life in Seattle is really and speak on whether the rumors and stereotypes about this city are true or not, so I've made this 2 part series to provide you all more insight to help you get a better understanding of the city before moving here.
In Part 1 I discuss the rumors and stereotypes in addition to tips on things to consider so you can make the proper decisions and plans for your move. I will also cover a bit about costs of living, safety of the city, culture, transportation, etc.
In Part 2, I cover current rent and living costs in Seattle and take you on a driving/walking tour of the neighborhoods which I would recommend for those moving to the Greater Seattle area for the first time.
Hope you guys enjoyed the video and it provides you the insight to make moving less stressful and more enjoyable!

Hey, seriously, as a person who obsessively researches for years before making a decision I’ve seen every video on KZfaq about Seattle. Literally hundreds. Yours is exactly what I’ve been wanting. Actual street view your, not just someone sitting in their office talking about the different neighborhoods. You go into detail, give relevant facts and mixed in opinions. Perfect mix. New sub!
@Phamever

Super appreciative for the sub and support first off! I am so so excited to hear that I'm able to give you the information you need - I myself had to make a big move years ago to a whole different part of the country and it would've been so helpful to have a local provide knowledge so I could avoid some unpleasantries, so I'm so glad that my content has helped to provide enough information for you to make such a big decision for yourself! Can't wait for you to experience Seattle one day - it's not a perfect city, but the pros will definitely shine above the cons! :)

The best seattle video I’ve seen yet while doing research! I love how you not only went in depth into each neighborhood but you showed each neighborhood as well so I got a better idea of the layout and such. This helps me so much!!! I’ll be working as a new grad nurse in downtown seattle and I’ll be moving towards the end of the year, super excited :) ty for this helpful and informative video. I do have one question though! How is the asian food there and how does it compare to other big cities you’ve been to?

First off - early welcome to Seattle! :) I'm super happy that my content has been helpful for you and allows you to get a better picture of Seattle! The Asian food here still has some room to grow, but it's not bad at all, you just have to know where to go to find it. You can get any type of Asian food you crave so it won't be an issue at all. Once Covid is over, Vancouver Canada is just a couple hours away and it is literally a mini Asia with amazing food so you'll have access to a whole other Asian mecca! :)

This is so awesome and so informative, thank you!! You definitely featured way more neighborhoods than I've seen in other similar videos which is so great and helps me out a lot as I try to figure out where exactly I'd want to move to. Visited Oct 2019 and November last year, and while I like some parts of downtown, 2nd street close to pike place, but going towards the mall, wanting to take the monorail to the space needle, that area ehhh definitely want to avoid lol. I noticed you stopped at First Hill and didn't really go over Pioneer Square, and understandably it's one of the smallest burbs of Seattle, but what's your opinion of that neighborhood? The reason I ask I'm interested in waking up early and walking around parks, and notice they have cute, small ones. Especially with that old towny kind of feel to it. Unless it's not as safe as it seems?
@Phamever
@Phamever 3 жыл бұрын
I'm so glad this was helpful for you! :) Pioneer Square is really cute and charming - I myself have thought about living there many times! Though for practicality I wouldn't live in Pioneer Square as it does get pretty rowdy there with tourists and the clubbing crownd (once Covid is over), and it doesn't have too many amenities or parking so it will get pretty annoying to implement the everyday things you need to get done. It is really easy to access pioneer square from nearby areas so if you love it you can easily come by regularly. If you like that feel though and want to live somewhere similar, I would recommend somewhere along the north side of Pike Place Market where Belltown begins. There are a lot of great apartments in the alleys and lower parts leading down to the Pier - try to look for Condos for rent as I've found the owners give you a much better deal than corporate run apartment buildings. Goodluck and welcome!

Great video, so helpful to drive through some of the neighborhoods! I am starting grad school at UW in the fall, and Wallingford seems expensive :/ What’s your option of Ravenna/ Laurelhurst, that area? We’re mid-30s, no kids, looking for more quiet neighborhood with easy transit to school and access to coffee shops and grocery stores
@Phamever
@Phamever Жыл бұрын
Ravenna/Laurelhurst is really cute and fairly quiet neighborhood with good access to the University yet still provide a suburb feel! Plenty of grocery stores and small coffee shops around so it's a great option. Northgate is also another great option that will be a bit more affordable than Ravenna even and still have easy access to UW and downtown! Good luck! :)

Just new to your channel, This video is so informative! It shows how much effort you put on it, thanks!🙏 I am contemplating to move to downtown area in a month to be close to Work (work relo). I have kids. Any recommendations for my case? Thanks again
@Phamever
@Phamever 3 жыл бұрын
Wow that’s a big move! There are lots of more suburban areas around downtown that are very convenient to get to downtown for work while being more residential for kids! Try central district, First Hill, Montlake, Madison Valley, Eastlake, Beacon Hill, Mt Baker areas! Some will be fancier than others, but they will be great for someone with kids. I have seen folks with kids live directly downtown, it’s not impossible though you should stay closer to the Queen Anne side or north bell town as it has more parks snd outdoors space for your kids to roam (Elliot Bay Park or the sculpture park). Good luck with your move and welcome! 🤗

I loved the video. I was born and raised in Bellevue and work in Seattle. only thing you didn’t add to some of the areas you are talking about is the high crime rates in these neighborhoods and the homeless issues you will face. I lived in ViA6 across from Amazon in belltown/ south lake union and lasted about a year due to the crime that happened around my apartment.
@Phamever
@Phamever 2 жыл бұрын
I did mention that crime is going to be a given - especially when you compare the suburbs to a metropolitan city. Though compared to other major cities I've lived and worked in, Seattle's crime rates are not amazingly higher. We have experienced a bit more due to the reduction in police force last year from defunding, but I would hardly say it is a super dangerous place. I lived few blocks down the street from Via6 and did not have any issues at all, but perhaps since you were close to 3rd Ave it could be the reason!

Very informative stuff...I'm trying to move there so I appreciate your videos. Do you have an opinion of the 112th Street area? My agent said it's "less desired" but not sure why.
@Phamever
@Phamever 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! if You're referring to the area on the south western part of Rainier Beach, then the reason why it's considered less desired is due to it historically being a lower income area of Seattle. I believe crime here is a bit higher on average than surrounding areas of Seattle, but I have friends who live in this area and they haven't complained to me about crime. This area has been gentrifying a lot in the last few years so crime and things like that have begun to decrease. The other reason I believe is that there are not a lot of amenities (grocery stores, home improvement stores, etc.) in this area so you have to go either South or North to run errands or get access to amenities. Good luck on your House Hunting and wishing you an early welcome to Seattle! :)

You said one of these neighborhoods is a 5 minute drive away. That seems so close, I'd personally consider that downtown. I'm so glad to hear that a bunch of these more affordable areas are SO close to downtown. I plan to move to Seattle at the start of next year. @Phamever
@Phamever 3 жыл бұрын
Yes! Belltown is super convenient and there are a lot of amenities, restaurants, bars, public transportation, shopping, etc around Belltown. The only area that gets a little rowdy is 3rd Ave which is where all the bus lines go on, but even so it's not dangerous or anything - just annoying at most due to all the activity that goes on there. Though if you're in the north end of Belltown its super quiet and you'll likely never deal with much noise, but some people like the south end due to Amazon headquarters and much of the restaurants and shopping being there. Either way I lived in the southeast end of Belltown for the past 2 years and it's been great!

Yes! I am in the process of doing a video about nearby cities and suburbs like the ones you’ve mentioned! Tbh Seattle and the greater areas around it are great for raising children. Your kids will get exposure to big city life and it’s diversity to open up their perspectives, while living in suburban areas with great schools and amenities. I definitely prefer Seattle for raising kids and leading a comfortable life. I enjoyed Cali in my early 20’s Bc my goals in life were different (partying and clubbing), which you can get here also just not at the endless extent of SoCal. Overall I chose Seattle, Bc it allows for me to grow my career and wealth much better yet giving me a very comfortable place to live with great moderate weather and lots of outdoor activities within minutes and hours from the city!

@Phamever 2 жыл бұрын
The issue is that many people expect Seattle to be a perfect pristine suburb type city, but at the end of the day it’s a major city with all the issues that large cities have. That doesn’t mean that overall it’s still not one of the safest big cities in America and one of the most beautiful cities too. Covid and police defunding have brought some issues to the city’s crime and homelessness situation, but living here and having packages stolen couple times or seeing some homeless people around here and there, or reading about a shooting on ring or neighborhood apps. I have yet to experience myself any real threat or have fear for my life. Social media and the ability to share news and events around the city helps bring things to people’s attention more than in the past so there’s a perception that the city is infested with crime, but I rarely personally see any major crimes occurring nor do I see it occur at a rate that makes me feel like Seattle is so dangerous to live in. Many people continue to live here and purchase homes here so that’s a big indication of the health of the city.

@Phamever

Sorry to hear Seattle isn't your cup of tea. One thing I'd like to correct is that overall crime rates in Seattle is actually still lower now than in the past decades when you look at crime stats. It is an expensive city to live in, but the salary is much higher so balances out. Rain is subjective so each person will have to think about that, I enjoy the rain and don't think it's depressing - it's rather relaxing and cozy to me (and other folks who enjoy rain) ;) to each their own!

OMG...I'm beginning to think you're my "soul mate"!....... Just kidding!! So..Dont get nervous...LOL! I'm just referring to a couple of things: In part one you mentioned the SUN in SoCal and I thought I was alone in how much it bothers me, but you know who else is with us? Cameron Diaz! On this part 2..Dick's Fries! LOVE them! Last time I visited Seattle though, I went to Dicks Capitol Hill and I almost DIED when they told me...No Fries!! I thought it was a joke! They said I had to go to another location! Wonder why? (Hope they brought them back!) Anyway....Great Job!!

I KNOW! When I moved back to Seattle from LA everyone thought I was crazy LOL and when I tell people I like soggy fries they look at me like I'm crazy too haha. They sometimes run out due to stock since the Cap Hill location is one of the busiest...Next nearest location is Lower Queen Anne so I always jump over there! Thanks for your viewership and so much fun talking about crazy Seattle stuff lol

@@Phamever Yes..people in SoCal LOVE their SUN but I find it almost aggresive, while Cloudiness kind of "Soothes my Soul"...lol! But Yeah...regarding the fries, on that visit to Seattle I didnt have a rental car, otherwise I wouldve jumped on it and gone over to Queen Anne. So, since I was already there, I just had the burger and shake and did not accept the bag of potato chips they suggested. I thought...How DARE they?!!...Lol! Funny thing, before I even discovered their fries, I always liked Wendy's (and still do) because their fries sometimes tend to be soft-ish too. Anyway..thx for commenting back and continued success with all your pursuits 😀!

You might have overlooked high crime rate and homeless issues in Seattle
@Phamever
@Phamever 2 жыл бұрын
As I’ve mentioned before - crime and homelessness is there, and will be there in any major city you choose to move to. It’s not realistic to compare a small town with a major metropolitan and point to crime and homelessness statistics. You have to compare major cities with major cities - in doing so you will see they for those choosing a major city as their home, Seattle is still much better than most of the other major cities in America.

@@Phamever I was not comparing to small town with big cities, simply comparing to what Seattle use to be twenty years ago. The situation has gotten worse and worse by each day.

Seattle sucks. Used to be nice up until the late eighties or so. I grew up there and I won't go back. Too crowded, too expensive and the traffic is awful.

Sorry to hear you no longer enjoy what Seattle has to offer - we each have different priorities in life and enjoy/dislike different things so I wouldn't say Seattle "sucks" - just that it doesn't meet everyone's personal criteria ;)

Very dirty city , needles everywhere, Homeless folks everywhere, garbage all over. A beautiful city has been destroyed by a city council that is ineffective.
