One great aspect of living in Seattle is the ability to hunt and gather for food in the surrounding nature that surrounds the city!
In this video I take you to scavenge for mushrooms while we hike in the woods and gather baby clams straight from the lake which follows along the trail. Since clam digging season at the beaches along the ocean has yet to open for the year, I decided why not go hunt for lake clams! It would be perfect as I could take a hike through the forest and scavenge for mushrooms also.
Note that before you eat any food like mushrooms or clams you pick from the wild, make sure you're certain that it is an edible/safe species of mushroom to consume. If you have a friend who's an expert make sure to consult with them while you're still new to picking mushrooms!

This video was so cool! I really loved the background music you chose! I recently moved to Seattle and would love to go harvest some clams! Where is this forest/lake? Sorry if you already mentioned it somewhere else!

Glad you liked the content! 😊 this was at Saint Edward State Park - I wouldn’t recommend harvesting clams here as it’s harder to tell if it’s safe to eat or not since there’s no signage to warn of red tide. For clam digging I recommend going to the Olympic peninsula or up north along the coast. Check out wdfw.wa.gov to learn more about clam digging in Washington and the beaches that it’s safe to dig and eat clams from throughout the year! Welcome to Washington and have fun on your clam digging adventure! 🤗

@@Phamever I've lived in the area for four decades and never heard of anyone collecting freshwater clams here. I did a bit of research and found a few references to claim that it is illegal to do any type of freshwater shellfish collecting in WA state though I was unable to find the exact law. Also, numerous references claim shellfish can be victims of the same problems which close certain beaches to bottom feeding fish, fresh and salt water. The sign you show near the end of this video warns about collecting two species of bottom feeders in that lake. Saltwater beaches have a totally different set of rules, seasons, size and license laws, so, be careful out there.

@@SealthWA That's good to know - I didn't realize there was a statewide ban on freshwater clams, I assumed it would be the same as all other clams/shellfish. I did mention in a previous comment that I don't advise on eating these as there is not tracking of red tide!

@@SealthWA I totally agree - regardless of whatever flaws the city may have, it is still one of the best places to live!
